Dorado (Lucky 03-218)

Profile

We picked Lucky up last night and he settled right in for the night. He did get a bath this morning as he did smell a bit but he tolerated that very well. He is such a sweet heart and very well behaved. He tolerates Bart 03-191 jumping all over him and loves to follow Bailee around. Lucky has some health issues right now including a case of kennel cough - a doggie cold. More updates to follow.

Dear RAGOM,

We are writing you to say thank you. 8 1/2 years ago, August 2003, we were introduced to a great 8 month old named Lucky. He was rescued by RAGOM from a high kill shelter in Kansas City. That meeting and adoption turned out to be a great addition to our family. In our first year together, Lucky who we renamed Dorado, had some anxious times. We learned from his foster family that he had been in a couple of homes before settling in with us. So after an investment in puppy class mixed with a lot of love it didn't take long for him to become a full fledge member of the family.

Dorado loved to go for walks down by the lake and romping in the water. He was always first in the truck to go on camping trips. He loved riding in the backseat of our convertible. And no other dog in the neighborhood loved new fallen snow like Dorado. Everyday was a happy day for him, and because of him a happy day for us. Dorado loved his stuffed toys and sharing them with his playmates who would come visit. Even the cat liked to play and share a bed with Dorado.

Sadly last night Dorado left us. We learned that he had a pretty aggressive cancer that caused some extensive internal bleeding. Though he didn't seem to be in any pain he was very stressed. After multiple consultations on Tuesday, it was determined that anything we humans could do would only prolong his life for a few additional days. A very hard and emotional decision was made to let our dear family member go. The house is now quiet except for a few momentary tears as the toys lay unplayed with and the food dish remains empty.

We want to thank you for what you do and for helping us make the introduction that touched us greatly and will live with us forever.

Sincerely,
Cindy and Doug M.

Lucky has been such a sweetheart to foster. He does have kennel cough and is on meds for it now. He is up to date on his vaccines and had his heart worm test taken Monday which came back negative. YEAH!! When Lucky came in we were told he has hip dysplasia however when I took him to the vet she said he has less range of motion in the right leg but nothing that would require anything to be done to it. It is not painful at all as Lucky allowed the vet to move his leg all over the place and he just laid there. He does like to run and was chasing Bailee down our yard this morning at a full run. Lucky is a velcro dog not only to us but to Bailee. He just LOVES her. If Bailee moves he moves. Lucky does know how to sit and lay down, but does take treats rather roughly. We are going to be working on that one a lot. He does not counter surf and is house trained. Lucky loves to ride in cars and looks out the window or lays down and sleeps. I have included a couple of pictures of him and as you can tell he has the cutest ridge of fur on the top of his head. He also loves to lay down and cross his paws. AWWWW

Lucky will be ready to look for his forever home soon and needs someone with a loving hand. He does tend to drop at first when you go to pet him and if you raise your voice (like to call another dog in) he rolls on his back and shakes. He would do really well with another dog and would need a fenced in yard. If you are looking for a cuddly, sweet natured fun dog then Lucky is the dog for you. Please let placement know if you are interested in Lucky as I am sure we could arrange for a meeting before Lucky is ready to go.
