Sam 09-246

Profile

Sam's given name is Doppler by the SO - very nice family that wanted to do the right thing and I so appreciated all they have done for Doppler and his siblings. They were well socialized, loved to run and play. When The transporter got there all 9 pups and mom were out wandering around. The family had lots of company to love and protect these guys and they really watched the blind ones to make sure they would not wander far.

They have been wormed and vetted on the 15th of June, they will be due for the second set next Monday. I will get Doppler in to be Mircochipped then. HE IS BIG - his mom was tiny - beautiful red and maybe 50 pounds - Dad is a big block head boy - around 90 pounds so these guys could be big or small. All I know is Molly did a great job feeding them!

The three pups were brought to the Ophthalmologist and we were told they have very limited eye sight. The good news is each of these dogs do have some sight but it is very minimal. They can distinguish dark and light and might be able to see outlines.

Sam/Doppler is very energetic and curious just like all puppies he just needs verbal clues for him to get around in his environment.  He gets along great with our 2.5 year old golden Lacey as you can see from his photos. He also likes to chase our 7 year old Bichon-Poo that we call the grumpy old man.  Our cat is fine with him and he sniffs him but does not bother him. We have bells on both of our dogs so Doppler can keep track of them.

Doppler loves to go for walks with the other dogs and as long as you keep letting him know where you are he follows great. He also has mastered going up stairs and down a curb.

Since he has been going on our walks in the evening he has been sleeping though the night only getting up around 4 am to potty and then back to bed in his wire crate.

As for potty training he is doing good for a 9 week old pup, he keeps his crate clean and as long as he goes out after his naps and after eating he keeps he house clean as well.

Blind dogs are no different than any other dog, you just have to be a little more protective of them. They need training, love and consistency and most of all, furniture and items can not be moved at a whim. :)

Sam/Doppler would love to meet a forever family sometime soon.

Hi, just a little up date on our wonderful Doppler. We adopted Doppler from Ragom 2 years ago. His sibs and him were given up to Ragom because they were born blind. When I saw his pic, I did not see a blind puppy, he was just so very cute. I started reading every thing I could on puppies born blind to get some information, and found out that blind puppies do very well. We were so excited to bring him home! Doppler has truly amazed us. He is so very smart, he can fetch a ball like no tomorrow. He brings us the News paper from the drive every Sunday. Loves to run and play with the other dogs!! Doppler also works as a Therapy Dog with TDI. He loves giving hugs and kisses to every one he meets!! Doppler is one of the first blind dogs in the area to Graduate with TDI. We hope other people will open their hearts and homes to pets with Special Needs. They do have a lot to give!!       We love you Doppler, Your Family

Hi all you Sam/Doppler watchers,

Sam continues to learn his way around our house and yard.  Most of the time he can navigate his way without help. He now goes both up and down the stairs both inside and outside off our deck, he also barks and goes to the door when he wants to go out. He has not had an accident in the house in a couple of weeks. Some of his favorite activities are to be outside in our fenced in back yard, playing in the wading pool and wrestling with his big foster sister Lacey. He loves the rain and will run and jump for joy outside. One of his favorite treats is ice cubes especially after a long walk. Speaking of walks, he loves them and walks well on a leash, he just needs verbal directions or a pal with a bell on their collar.

Sam/Doppler has a GReat Golden personality. He is happy go lucky and active. He loves affection,  and has met children of all ages and loves them all. He is very popular at the park with kids, adults and other dogs and is always listening for the next friend to come along. He has a very keen senses of both hearing and smell and nobody sneaks past him.

Doppler sleeps in his crate at night and when we are not home, but when he gets tired when we are home he goes to one of our bathrooms to sleep on the tile floors. He will be getting his next set of puppy shots next week and we will have a current weight for him then, but let's just say he is GROWING up fast.

Hi Doppler/Sam here. My foster dad says I am growing like a weed. When I was to the vet a couple of weeks ago I weighed 16.5 pounds. I also got a clean bill of health except for my blindness. I am sleeping though the night now and love to have a fan blowing on my crate. I have gotten used to my foster home and can navigate it pretty well now. I still do not like to go down stairs but going up is no problem.

I get a walk pretty much every evening with my foster brother and sister dogs and we are quite the pack. I love to play with my dog friends and even Bailey the grumpy old man seems to put up with my antics.

You can see from my new photos that play is an important part of my day and I have some good playmates here.

If you would like to meet me please contact your placement advisor and they can put you in touch with my foster parents.
