Midnight 06-269

Profile

6/27/06: It is with great pleasure I am able to say that Ms. Midnight (AKA - Wendy Beth - per her first foster mom) has finally made it to MN. It has been a VERY long haul for this pup along with her brothers and sisters. Midnight originally comes from Mississippi, however along the way one of her siblings became very ill and had to stop in Missouri to wait out a Parvo incubation period. Ms. Midnight had a negative Parvo reading but the whole group had to wait the incubation period for safety reason. With the incubation period and scare being over, the puppies were given their travel certificates and hit the road very early this morning and arrived in our great city of Apple Valley 12 hours later.

Ms. Midnight is the smallest of her siblings and is still close to 20 pounds at 3.5 months. She is a beautiful black color with a white spot on her chest. Now you are probably asking, hey what is a black dog doing on a Golden site? Well, she is an honorary Golden because Dad had some Golden Retriever in him. I have been told her mom is a Border Collie mix and dad was a Lab/Golden Retriever.

The information I received from Midnight's first foster mom is this: Midnight doesn't run and hide, but of the three puppies I have, she's the quiet and well-mannered one; she will sit back and watch everyone.

As you can imagine, we don’t know a lot about her, so keep checking back and we will give you all the updates. If you are an approved app, please email placementatragom [dot] org. If you are not approved – send in an application today!

Lola (Midnight 06-269) and Stella (Sasha 08-091) are doing great. They are both wonderful and beautiful dogs. Lola is a very smart dog that always is by your side. Stella is obsessed with fetching tennis balls and swimming, that obsession goes to a new level when the two activities are combined. Both dogs have grown up to be great friends.

Lola (Midnight 06-269) is Daddy's girl...  she never leaves my side. She loves going to the dog park and planning her next steps in her perpetual battle with the rabbit in the backyard. Initially she found Stella (Sasha 08-091) to be an annoying addition to the family but now they love to be around each other. She is very smart...  she quickly realized that throwing the Kong in the air would usually aid in popping the treat out onto the floor. I also know when she has done something wrong because she will not be at the door when I come home.

Midnight here – what is a gal supposed to do to get a little attention around this house? I am told one of the human children turns 21 today and the other humans are waiting around for Cindee to come home so they can have a party with her. I don’t want to wait – I want to go swimming NOW!

As you can see, I brought in one of the water balloons that was left outside (see picture), but don’t worry – foster mom watches me very carefully while I play with them, but I just love getting squirted when I sink my little teeth into them. Mom is not thrilled that they come inside, but I figure, why else does she have wood floors? Easy clean up!

I am looking for a family that will love me, because you know I had to take care of myself in Mississippi. That was fun for about a day, but I am now ready for someone to show me what it is like to be pampered by my very own family....could that possibly be you???

Foster mom and dad still say I am a great dog and even Grandma Jadee lets me lick all the extra food off her face (see picture) - how cool is that? I think it is because we are the same color and she does not realize that I am a pup. But then again, when I am near her, I am very careful not to step on her paws and I leave when she politely asks me to.

I seem to be cat friendly - I have met a few in the vet's office and around the house. I really don’t have much to say to them because I am a dog, and they don’t really like to rough house - at least, that is what I am told.

So, are you ready to fall in love with me all over again? Then come and meet me....trust me, you will! If you have been approved please email placementatragom [dot] org. If you are not approved – send in an application today!

Happy Fourth of July from everyone! Midnight continues to do well. She has been helping us clean the garden – that is her below either sleeping because she has to work so hard or she is having fun playing in the garden. She also loves going into the strawberry patch to help herself to a few snacks.

She loves lying on the lawn chairs after a swim and yes, she still thinks it is okay to get on the coffee table to make sure everyone sees her. She has so much personality. It is just amazing. Don’t worry; we are working on making sure she knows sitting on the table is not acceptable in any house.

Midnight has no fear of fireworks or loud noises that we can tell. Last night we were lighting a bunch and she just hung out with us the whole time. She will nap when she can but she would rather be with the humans to make sure she does not miss out on anything.

Midnight knows her name pretty well now, and she knows sit - when she feels like listening, which is most of the time, but she is a pup. I think she is going to be a smaller dog since at 4 months she only weighs 18 pounds and she is not a huge eater.

We still have not had any accidents. In fact, I did not even crate her when we went to the Taste of MN yesterday for 5 hours. Came home and she was just waiting for us to come home and play with her.

You really must give her a chance. We are no longer biting to get attention, instead she just walks up to you and waits. Honestly, she may not look like a Golden but her personality is PURE Golden. Come and meet her, you won’t be sorry.

I know you are thinking another update – but it is a quick one – yesterday and the previous day we let the chlorine levels get real low in the swimming pool so all the dogs could swim since it was so hot.

Well yesterday we all went swimming and we got out, sat on our favorite seats and then who comes up and jumps on the chair to sit and dry off? Yep you guessed it – Midnight has decided she needs a chair to sit on too. It happened at dinner time.

So here are just a couple of pictures of her sitting/sleeping on her chair while she dries off. She is such a good girl! I know if you saw her you would fall in love with her. Don’t let the black dog scare you away. Now that Sydney is gone there is much less biting and none this morning. What a change in a dog when she does not have her sister around.

Sorry for not updating sooner, time just got away from all of us here. I am happy to say Midnight is doing great! She still has not had an accident in the house. She no longer uses the crate to sleep in, she loves sleeping in the bathroom with the big girls. It is so funny to watch because she will scoot her little body in between everyone else’s just to get a spot on the tile. She does not care who she walks on to get there.

Another funny story – remember the question that your home visit person asked - “What would you do if you found the dog on the table”? Okay, I always thought this was weird – well not any more. We have a table between two couches. Midnight feels her place to sit, is on this darn table! Funniest thing I have ever seen. We are working on that so it does not keep happening, but come on, she is just a pup!

Midnight is learning to walk on a leash and does great on her short morning and evening walks. We hope to keep increasing them because she still gets spooked so we have to be careful. In the morning Midnight is our little devil dog. She will bite at your heels as you try to get her out – we just tell her ouch and keep going. She usually listens but she is still a little nibbly and we will continue to diligently work on that. Midnight also feels it is her job to make sure everyone knows if someone left the clothes on the floor and not in the hamper – yep – she will parade the underwear, socks, shorts and shirts all over the house so we can all see it! So for Midnight it is very important things are put in their place so she does not get into trouble for tattling.

I know she is a black dog, but she definitely has the personality of a Golden and is just a joy to have around. Plus she is a little smaller at 17 pounds - she loves to cuddle and has the most perfect sitting position!

Midnight is this little black fluff of fur. She is so cute with her little white chin and her white spot on her chest - otherwise she is pure black. I know she does not look Golden, but hey, she is part of RAGOM and that in itself makes her special. She has a wonderful personality and seems to catch on pretty quick. So far no accidents in the house, slept great in the crate with her sister Sydney last night and has just been a joy to have around.

We gave her a bath last night and like one of the top ten reasons to own a black dog – they hide dirt – well, it's true. We kept thinking, why bother bathing her, she smells good, looks clean and I don’t think she needs one. We figured since Sydney was getting one Midnight better too – OH MY – can you say YUCKY water. Yep, she hides it exceptionally well.

Midnight loves attention and will come running up to say hi and get some love. She loves to give kisses and makes sure everyone gets their fair share. The Newfoundlands are doing great with her, too. She is definitely dog savvy and stays away from the Grandma Newfy.

Yes, statically speaking, people don’t want black dogs, but I tell you, this one is pretty special and very easy to get along with. All she wants is someone to love her. She is walking on a leash pretty well, but we will keep practicing each morning and night. Not real long ones, just as long as she and Sydney want. If either of them starts getting stressed we head back and try again later.

We went to visit our friendly vet today and that was fun - everyone in the office loves it when we bring in our new friends. They could not believe how cute Midnight was and that she was already 3.5 months old. She is a little peanut of a dog. She weighed in at 17 lbs and she got her second set of booster shots.

Midnight will be ready to go on Saturday and would love to meet anyone interested in adopting her. If you have been approved, please send an email to placementatragom [dot] org. If you are not approved – send in an application today!
