2 Step Charlie 07-322

Profile

Charlie has been transported from southern MN and has arrived in the frozen tundra of northern WI.  She is a petite little lady of about 45lbs, not chipped or spayed, hand shy, and afraid of loud noise and quick movements.  She eats like a PM dog.  We have been hand feeding her and scattering her food on the floor.  She will then eat it, but very cautiously and not very much.  We are going to work on these things and no doubt they will improve once she learns to trust us.  She has met our resident dogs and all is well there.  Some of the normal posturing from the resident male, but all has been worked out.  She has a vet appointment on Wednesday and will then get her true weight and a time for chipping and spaying.  She became car sick on the transport, but not until 130 miles into it.

We went to the vet today and Charlie was very well behaved. She was not frightened or nervous. She was negative on all her tests (heartworm, Lyme's and fecal). She had her Lyme's shot and will get her booster on 6/5/07 when she goes in for her spaying and chipping. She also had her nasal bordatella and that was the only thing she didn't like. Other than that she was a very good lady. She weighed in at 38.4 lbs. She is a very petite girl. The vet figures she won't get much more than 45 lbs. She got lots of treats and hugs from all concerned and soaked that right up. I've switched her to a different food and what a difference - she loves it! She dove into it like starving man eating a porterhouse steak.
The only thing that we have to work on is her fear of loud noise and unexpected quick movements. We have been working on sit, stay and come and she is doing very well. We are going to start with crate training tomorrow and see if we can get her to view her crate as a refuge. She is enjoying her daily walks and swims. She has met the neighbor's Lab and they had a great romp in the yard. Charlie is just one sweet girl. I think she needs a forever home where she will have someone with her most of the time and is not left alone for long periods. What Charlie needs now is companionship and lots of it. She needs another dog to hang out with. She needs gentleness and patience. She will be ready for adoption after her spay on the 5th of June. Her stitches should come out ten days after that, but her forever family can easily handle having that done. If you think this girl might fit in with your family, email placementatragom [dot] org.
