Abby (Blondie Jo 08-605)

Profile

Meet Blondie Jo! She is an adorable petite little Golden mix. She is about 11 or 12 months old and came all the way from Missouri. When she got here, she was having bloody, watery diarrhea and could not drink enough to keep herself hydrated. So Blondie needed to stay at the hospital until that cleared up. Turns out it was a case of whipworms that had chewed up her tender gut. She only weighs 40 pounds and is full grown so she will be on the small size compared to the rest of the RAGOM pack of dogs. She is safely home now and is doing great! Blondie has had brief bursts of zooming around the backyard, so I know she feels pretty well. She is also eating ravenously!

Blondie met my dogs with the usual puppy submissive energy. She is a bit shy and feels safe in her crate. She has the cutest little howl which I haven't quite figured out the purpose of. But it made my RAGOM boy Skye start to sing along. I think she is probably just a bit scared and is telling me that. I will update more as I get to know her!

Blondie Jo is slowly revealing herself.  She is very sweet and submissive to other dogs.  She seems to want to play but is shy about it.  Blondie has been checking out the counter tops, but I have been able to catch her at it.  Plus, she has not been rewarded by finding anything worth eating up there so I don't think that will continue.

Her diarrhea is all cleared up so she will need another trip to the vet to get up-to-date on her vaccinations.  They wanted to wait until she was a bit healthier.  I also need to check to see if she has been spayed.  I don't think she has been spayed.  Dr. G thought she might have had one litter, as her nipples are a bit more prominent than in a female that has never had puppies.  On her ear tips, she appears to have some frost bite.

Blondie Jo likes to chew things as most young dogs do. She ate a hole in my sweatpants in a flash!  I have been keeping a pretty close eye on her, but should have gated her when I went to take a shower!  She sleeps with a pad in her crate at night and has not chewed on that thus far.  Little Blondie Jo loves to toss soft toys around, but will also stop to chew and eat the little pieces. She needs to be watched when playing with those kinds of toys.  She is not a high energy dog and calms nicely after playing.

I have not left her alone yet and want to see how she does without other dogs around for company.  I'm not sure yet if she needs another dog for role modeling due to her shyness.  She also has not been around children since she arrived here, so I need to check how she is with them.  Blondie Jo comes racing to me whenever she hears a siren.  It is usually on the TV.  She appears more alert than afraid, but I am not sure what it is about sirens.  She calms quickly when the sound is gone.  She also has tried to get out under the gate in my fence.  Since she was found as a stray, I am wondering if she needs a fence to be safe.  I will continue to assess that.

Blondie Jo will be at PetSmart in Roseville this Saturday (01/24/09) at 11am if you are interested in meeting her!
