Achilles arrived at our house at 1:30 yesterday. I have one word for this guy - BEAUTIFUL!!! He is one of the most handsome GR's that I have ever seen. His pictures will not do him justice. You have to see him in person to appreciate his beauty. Many thanks to Bob, Phyllis and Shelby for sponsoring Achilles and helping him find the Golden life!!
This guy has quite the personality. Wow, for being a mill dog, he is a charmer. He met my 2 resident GR's with no problem. My female GR kind of ignores everyone as she is consumed with herself, so she ignored him at first. Then as he was here longer, she decided to sniff...well he got a little growly with her and she did the same. It has been decided that he would do best as an only dog or with another male dog in the house. The reason that I say he would do fine alone is because he is pretty independent and he is really, really smart! He loves to be petted and pretty much stays by your side until you direct him to play with the toys or other furr friends. This is so different from the female GR mill dog that I just fostered. He is also not afraid and skittish like she was.
He did not know how to do stairs, and it was funny watching him as he walked up with his front feet but his back feet were 4 stairs back. He finally figured it out, thank goodness, as we have a lot of stairs and I cannot carry this guy! He loves all of the toys - he emptied all of the toys out of the toy bin and checked them all out - this is no easy feat as this is one big bin of toys! He grabs the toys like he means business and then he does the cutest "fast shake" once he has captured them. He is a "toy destroyer", so Mr. Chipmunk and Mr. Rabbit have officially been "retired" to stuffed animal heaven.
Three hours after he arrived, we had to leave to go to a game and he would not go in his kennel. I don't blame him, the other guys don't have to be in one, how come I have to? Well, I was not willing to force the issue, so off we went. I was not sure what we were going to come home to or if my house would be destroyed. A friend checked on them, and they were all sleeping - good puppies. We arrived home and the house was not a disaster. He did have an accident, but that's okay, after all, he is not potty trained. So, we are working on that and the resident GR's can help with that. He has gone outside a few times already, so that is good.
He is such a big studly dog with really thick front paws and the most beautiful tail and feathers I have ever seen. He is all medically taken care of, the only thing he needs is eye surgery. His lashes are on the inside of his right eyelid, poor baby, and they are rubbing on his eye. For now we are using an eye cream, which does help, but I will get him
in as soon as possible to take care of this for him - I know it is irritating for him to have this condition.
We decided to give him a bath tonite and now he is even more beautiful and I think he knows it! Last night was a little rough. He panted until about 1:30 when I decided to put him in his kennel. He cried and panted, so I ended up camping on the floor next to his kennel. He settled down and we all got "a couple" hours of sleep. Second shift will take over so I can go to work and pay for more toys for "Mr. Toy Destroyer"!
If you would like to meet this guy and you are an approved applicant, please email placement
