Achilles 07-200 has shown no signs of aggression or fear biting.  He is technically in a quarantine for 10 days for biting, but the volunteer was holding the base of the leash while Achilles was chewing on it.  Totally accidental.  Both Achilles and Anubis are leash chewers when startled.  Both are making great strides and learning to trust.

This is Achilles doing agility with his owner, Eliot. Achilles came from the ND puppy mill. Wow, from living in horrifying conditions to being in a loving home and finally living the GOLDEN life...isn't he absolutely beautiful - look at that sweet face!! I love that dog!

Achilles has landed at this forever home tonite!  This pupper has traveled across many states to finally be in a place where he will be loved, cherished and spoiled!  Keely explored the entire house and did so well getting familiar.  He met Cal, the resident GR again and it is still not decided who will be the alpha there - they will figure it out!  When I
left he was playing in the backyard with the neighbor kids and other neighbors were coming over to meet this wonderful pup.

The picture is of Achilles with his forever family.  When I fostered him, it was difficult to capture his beauty.  This picture of him with his forever family captures his beauty and he is smiling!  He knows the search is done and he has landed - Welcome Home Keely boy.

I feel honored to have been your foster Achilles and you are a special dog with an unbelievable spirit!  You take care of your new family and give them lots of kisses - and remember, no nibblin' your master!  You are so lucky to be a part of this special family and to have people that love you so much!

We will see you again for the pool party!  You will get to swim "in" the pool the next time!!

Love you big guy - Your Foster Mom

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Well, I decided to write again as I am getting so good at writing my own updates!  So, I thought I would pass along my nicknames that my foster family calls me - here goes:  Keely, KK, Big Guy, Bruiser, Sport, and lastly Beethoven...what?....isn't Beethoven the "other" breed?  It must be because when I drink water I am a little messy and a really LOUD drinker. I answer to Keely the best!

My eye is doing so, so good!  It feels so much better now and I can really see everything that is going on.  I do get freaked out when I see my reflection in the TV when it is off, so we just turn it on and watch Animal Planet and I am quiet.  I really am liking it here at my foster home and I think this family is getting really attached to me (especially foster mom). I love her the most and this morning was kissing her tons!  The other furrbutts just look and roll their eyes - they think I am sucking up!

I have a sleeping routine down now...I am sleeping in my kennel in mom's bedroom.  Of course I would rather be on the bed, but apparently that is reserved for the "resident" Goldens...spoiled ones.  I went in the kennel last night and arranged the blankets and plopped myself down!  I heard lots of praise from foster mom and the resident GR's just rolled their eyes (again)!

I have a relaxed look on my face and I am no longer panting.  I have learned that it is safe where I am and that they love me.  I am not used to the structure of a home, but I really like it because I know what to expect.  Hey, yesterday I went on my first walk!  Mom got me a harness so she could make sure that she had a good hold of me.  She said something about walking me is like walking a horse!!!  I followed the resident GR's and it was fun!  We did get some funny looks when we went down the road - apparently three GR's walking down the street is funny!!  Mom said
something about the neighbors thinking she has lost her mind with all of these furrbutts!!!

There is a lot of bonding going on at our house and I am so happy to be here.  I knew eventually I would feel comfortable, it just took some time. With what I have been through, I needed some time to adjust.  First I was in a big truck and traveled a long way to Minnesota from ND, then I was in Iowa for three weeks, then I was at my foster home for a few days, then I was at the vet for 2 days being poked and prodded again and now I am back at my foster home.  I know we have to go back to the vet to get these stitched out, but I am NOT staying this time!

Hey, gotta go, there are many toys to play with and I am so relaxed now, I may take a little "doggy" nap...there is word about a walk with my foster dad as he is home with us a lot - fun times!

Love, Keely

Achilles arrived at our house at 1:30 yesterday.  I have one word for this guy - BEAUTIFUL!!!  He is one of the most handsome GR's that I have ever seen.  His pictures will not do him justice.  You have to see him in person to appreciate his beauty.  Many thanks to Bob, Phyllis and Shelby for sponsoring Achilles and helping him find the Golden life!!

This guy has quite the personality.  Wow, for being a mill dog, he is a charmer.  He met my 2 resident GR's with no problem.  My female GR kind of ignores everyone as she is consumed with herself, so she ignored him at first.  Then as he was here longer, she decided to sniff...well he got a little growly with her and she did the same.  It has been decided that he would do best as an only dog or with another male dog in the house.  The reason that I say he would do fine alone is because he is pretty independent and he is really, really smart!  He loves to be petted and pretty much stays by your side until you direct him to play with the toys or other furr friends. This is so different from the female GR mill dog that I just fostered.  He is also not afraid and skittish like she was.

He did not know how to do stairs, and it was funny watching him as he walked up with his front feet but his back feet were 4 stairs back.  He finally figured it out, thank goodness, as we have a lot of stairs and I cannot carry this guy!  He loves all of the toys - he emptied all of the toys out of the toy bin and checked them all out - this is no easy feat as this is one big bin of toys!  He grabs the toys like he means business and then he does the cutest "fast shake" once he has captured them.  He is a "toy destroyer", so Mr. Chipmunk and Mr. Rabbit have officially been "retired" to stuffed animal heaven.

Three hours after he arrived, we had to leave to go to a game and he would not go in his kennel.  I don't blame him, the other guys don't have to be in one, how come I have to?  Well, I was not willing to force the issue, so off we went.  I was not sure what we were going to come home to or if my house would be destroyed.  A friend checked on them, and they were all sleeping - good puppies.  We arrived home and the house was not a disaster. He did have an accident, but that's okay, after all, he is not potty trained.  So, we are working on that and the resident GR's can help with that.  He has gone outside a few times already, so that is good.

He is such a big studly dog with really thick front paws and the most beautiful tail and feathers I have ever seen.  He is all medically taken care of, the only thing he needs is eye surgery.  His lashes are on the inside of his right eyelid, poor baby, and they are rubbing on his eye. For now we are using an eye cream, which does help, but I will get him
in as soon as possible to take care of this for him - I know it is irritating for him to have this condition.

We decided to give him a bath tonite and now he is even more beautiful and I think he knows it! Last night was a little rough.  He panted until about 1:30 when I decided to put him in his kennel.  He cried and panted, so I ended up camping on the floor next to his kennel. He settled down and we all got "a couple" hours of sleep.  Second shift will take over so I can go to work and pay for more toys for "Mr. Toy Destroyer"!

If you would like to meet this guy and you are an approved applicant, please email placementatragom [dot] org.  He is not going to be at my house long as he is amazingly beautiful and is Mr. Personality!
