Allie 12-374

I'd like to introduce Allie 12-374. She is a 3 year old female Golden Retriever-Black Lab mix. She weighs around 72 lbs. She has beautiful shiny black fur.

Allie had her wellness check and was in good health other than she tested positive for Lyme disease and has very itchy skin caused mostly by a skin infection. The testing positive for Lyme disease means only that she has been bitten ,at some time, by the type of tick that carries Lyme disease. Allie is being treated for the skin infection and is itching less every day.

Allie was spayed on 11/21/2012 by the great people at MNSNAP. They did a excellent job and she has healed very well.

When I picked up Allie from her transporter she was shy and pretty scared of me. I talked to her on the way home and she was ok with me by the time we got home. Allie met my resident dog and 2 fosters with no problems. She also met my 2 cats and 2 baby kittens with no problems. Alliev was nervous the first night as most new dogs are.
The second day Allie started to really warm up to me and seemed pretty relaxed in her new home. This was very fast compared to most dogs that can take up to 2 weeks to really settle in. Allie was very affectionate to me and just loved any and all attention.

After being spayed Allie was moved to another foster. For some reason Allie did not like the husband and growled at him any time he got anywhere near him. We are thinking that possibly he reminded her if something in her past. Not really sure what brought this out of a otherwise seemingly very calm and happy dog. Allie was brought back to me for everyone's good.
Yesterday I had a furnace repair man come and since Allie might not like him I put her and my other 2 foster dogs in my upstairs bedroom and bathroom. They barked and whined some but not real bad, After the furnace man left I went up and let them out. Allie seemed to be in a panic and it took over a half hour to calm and comfort her. This seemed a bit strange because I have left Allie in the house many times with just the other dogs and she was fine. It obviously has something to do with being confined without me with her. I would think with proper treatment/training that Allie can overcome these fears.

Allie is 100% house trained and no other bad habits other than she jumps up on couches and sleeps in bed.. She will sit, lay down,come and stay pretty well so she has had some training. Allie walks pretty well on leash.

A few things that I think at this time, Allie should have in her furever home are:
* no small kids

*Another dog

Allie has settled in very well here now. She is the most affectionate dog I've ever had.

Allie has done ok with several visitors here but was very shy at first. No lip curling or growling at all. It seemed that once she saw the other dogs were getting petted and attention she thought it was alright. There still may be some people she won't like but I haven't seen her show any aggression to anyone. Just shy or bashful and would
stay near me.

Allie seems to have very good recall. I've been working on that when we go on our 3 mile walk every day. Allie will also sit on demand most times. Lay down needs a bit of work yet.

Allie gets along with other dogs and cats very good. She plays pretty gentle with kittens. Allie will play rough with other dogs if they want to . She will back off if they aren't interested. Allie seems to want to be the leader when with other dogs. The other dogs here, are passive most of the time and let her be the leader if she wants to.
She's had no scuffles here with the other dogs.

Allie is completely healed from spay surgery and her skin infection is healed. Allie is still itchy and I am giving her benadryl and fish oil for that every day. That seems to be controlling it pretty well along with the high quality dog food.

Here is some things that I think Allie should have in her furever home:

*Another passive dog

* A quieter home without a lot of new people coming and going or
someone willing to work with her on her fears of new people.

*A home where she is allowed on furniture and to sleep in bed with her
people. Allie is a cuddler

* a big yard or dog park near by for her to run.

* Long walks every day
