Anna 06-097

Profile

3/13/06: Anna is a gorgeous gal inside and out. She is 11 years old, spayed, up to date on her shots, weighs 90 lbs..sorry, I hate to tell a woman's weight. She looks good for her weight.

When I went to pick up Ms. Anna (sometimes called Annabelle) she greeted me at the door and was very happy to see me. The previous owners said this is a good sign because it usually takes Anna a little time to warm up to strangers. I think Anna knew that I just lost my senior gal and she decided that she was going to help heal my broken heart. After all Golden's are working dogs and when given a job they rise to the occasion.

Anna was born in California, lived there for 2 years and then moved to New Jersey where she spent 7 years, and for the last 2 years has lived in MN. So you can say she is a well traveled girl...surprisingly, no east coast accent. Anna was raised with another Golden and they were very happy with each other. When he passed away in July of 2005 she became a little depressed and not as active. Anna is wonderful with my Oakley and Arthur, she loves to watch them goof around and play.

As soon as she walked into the house the boys were in love. Oakley was raised by my sweet Amber and Arthur joined our family later but they both loved her dearly. Ever since Amber passed away they haven't been the same. When Anna walked into our home and our hearts, the boys were so excited. Right away they started kissing Anna. The first night, Oakley would go and give her kisses just about every 15 minutes - only one time Anna curled her lip at Oakley and Oakley backed off, giving her the respect she deserves. As I write this update they are all curled up in the computer room laying next to each other. Anna wasn't raised with cats but has showed little interest - she has only sniffed them.

Anna was so excited when my 12 year old son came home, she decided that she likes to sleep in his room. Every time she see him she just lights up. She shakes her little stub of a tail. I guess I should back up and tell you about her tail. A vet recommend that she have it amputated because she would get hot spots and she had "Happy Tail Syndrome" (or least that's what I call it). She would wag her tail so hard that it would bleed. The upside to a stubby tail is that she will never knock anything off a coffee table. I love to watch her wiggle it when she's happy.

Anna has a sensitive stomach and she can only eat Neutro Lamb and Rice and have Neutro Lamb and Rice biscuits. She will throw up or get diarrhea from anything else.

Anna's previous owners had her shaved so her hair is short right now but it's so soft to pet. Anna has a few warts that will bleed if she scratches them, so you need to keep an eye on that as well. If Anna starts to scratch at them then we need to put a cone on her head. Anna also gets ear infections so she needs her ears cleaned out once a week to prevent them.

I have a lot of cute and wonderful things to share with you so keep checking back.

Note from Anna....My foster mom says she can't tell all my secrets in one update. My foster Mom also takes the worst pictures. Foster Mom says since I'm a senior girl that I belong to the purple hat society...I just think I look cute. I'm looking for an active house with another dog to keep me busy or one with people around most of the time. I enjoy being with my humans but I'm very trustworthy when you're not around. If you have kids that would be good too. My foster mom says older kids because I'm an older kid myself, or kids who respect dogs. I'm such an easy girl that just about any home style would be great for me.

I'm writing you to say that our sweet Golden girl, Anna 06-097, on January 14, 2009 went to the Rainbow Bridge. I've started to write this many times and have had to stop. The snow is gently falling and Anna loved to go out in the snow and lay down on a pillow of snow and get covered with a soft white blanket of snow. I know that so many of the tributes are so wonderful to read. I want to thank Ragom for all our dogs, but I also wonder if the people that gave Anna up or the foster family wonder how she did? To the family that gave her up I know you deeply loved your dogs. Anna came with two of each toy so I know you gave your love in 2's. We added so many toys and she would take her pick out of a basket. She was very well trained and so gentle. Thank you for such a sweetie. To the foster family after losing Amber I can see why you might have wanted to keep her. Thank you.

Anna came and was alpha dog and Mason loved to have her here. I'd find those two by each other's side most of the time. Anna loved to be on our deck. She would make sure no squirrels touched the ground. We have a wooded area which is patrolled regularly and Anna would run off the deck to bark and let them know that she was watching. I think it was fun for the patrol to see if they could get by either driving very slowly so as not to make noise, or go by quickly to see if she could get to the fence before they passed our property line. In any event the guards this last year would stop to greet her. They even stopped to say they missed her not greeting them.

Anna had it easy here as I was home and could let her in and out whenever she wanted. Mason, Anna and I would take daily walks to the park to look for squirrels or ducks . It was very common around 3:00 for the dogs to Woo-Woo as if to say let's go.

We had all of Anna's warts removed and let her hair grow. She was like a woolly sheep and she loved to be brushed and I would gently rub her neck. This last year she had developed diabetes and lost her sight but you would not know it around the house and yard. She became very close to me as I was her seeing eye human. She had gone to the park so many times that she knew the route and I really didn't guide her as much as tell her when something was in her path. She had made it a habit to go to a point where the ducks would come out of the water. We continued doing this and there on the bank of the pond we would sit and rest. I call the point Anna's Point and think of her when I walk Mason #02-329 and Molly (aka Bridget) #08-329 and we stop at the point. Anna was our golden girl and we will remember the good times we shared.

Like I promised, a new story about the lovely Ms. Anna. My son calls her Anna Banana…I like it, it's cute. If my son gives a dog a nickname then that means he really likes them. I've heard Anna bark only one time and that was to go out. Her previous family told me that there were a few occasions when someone who wasn't suppose to be in the house was trying to get in and Anna would bark to alarm them. One time, their daughter was having a girl sleepover and some boys tried to crash the sleepover. Anna alerted the parents that something wasn't right. So you could think of Anna as being the teen alarm.

Anna is such a love…but what senior isn't. My Oakley is head over heels in love with her. He's cut back to kissing her every 30 minutes. He's so happy to have another senior in the house that he's just like an 8 week old pup again. Anna doesn't mind my obnoxious boys kissing her. All they do is kiss her they don't rough house with her. I have a feeling she would not care for the rough housing. She is a sweet senior who would rather watch the younger dogs play. Anna will come over and nudge my arm for pets. This morning I asked her if she would like to come to work with me and she grunted…I told her that I was sorry but I couldn't bring her with…but she would be an ideal work buddy if you could.

Best thing about a senior is that they are more sensitive to our needs, they instinctively know when you're having a bad day, are happy to just lay by you and listen to you. If you haven't experienced the love of a senior, you don't know what you're missing. The way I feel about seniors is the same feeling I get when I foster dogs…it's the best feeling in the world.

If Anna gives me permission to tell more of her secrets I will. Otherwise, I will have to sweet talk her with a biscuit. If you're looking for the love of your life…this girl is it. Trust me, we already love her.
