7/29/05: Anne is an 8-year-old spayed purebred Golden Retriever. She has been neglected for several years and came to us in rough shape. Even though the shelter had gotten a lot of the mats out of her coat she still was in need of a good grooming and bath. She left this morning for her spa treatment and should be coming home shortly all combed, brushed and smelling nice and clean. I am sure there will be some spots that needed to be clipped because of the mats but I know she will be feeling so much better.
We visited the vet yesterday and her heartworm test and blood work came back A-OK. Her son, Chubby 05-199, did test positive for Lyme's disease so we are making another trip back to the vet tomorrow morning to have Anne tested also. She weighs about 67 pounds which is a little more than she should weigh considering her height so we will be working on a little weight loss plan. Anne is also a little stiff in her joints but we will put her on some supplements for that. It could also be a symptom of Lyme's disease so we will see what her test shows tomorrow.
These two have been very much on their own with very little animal or human contact in the last few years. Anne deserves the best of care and lots of love and attention. She is a typical Golden who wants to be next to you and follows me where ever I go. So far, we have had no accidents in the house and she will let me know when she needs to go out by standing next to the door. Anne needs some time to settle in as she has had so many changes in her life lately. I have noticed each day she is more comfortable and doesn't seem so worried about what is going on.
Anne likes to play fetch with the ball and while she isn't a speed demon you can tell she really enjoys bringing the ball back to you and waits for you to throw it again. She does have a fair amount of energy and really moves out when you take her for a walk.
We will write more later as we get to know Anne. If you would like to give this senior girl the love and attention she has been lacking for so long, please email Placement
