Ardie (Ardis 03-064)

Profile

Ardis has been with us for one day now. When she arrived yesterday, she was very timid and scared. Her previous owner passed away, and Ardis was rescued from a humane society. Ardis is a 10 year old spayed female, with a medium to dark red coat. Her muzzle has quite a bit of gray in it. She is missing quite a few of her bottom teeth, but this does not effect her eating. She has not had any accidents in the house, and has not needed to be crated. Ardis went to the vet yesterday, and weighed in at 61 lbs., she is a nice size golden. Ardis is currently being treated for hookworm, and a urinary tract infection. Because of the hookworm infection, I have to be very diligent about picking up her feces right away, and making sure my dogs do not come in contact with them. Her toe nails were super long, but she tolerated having them clipped. She did well with her bath too. I was thrilled she slept through her first night, and I did not hear one peep out of her. She is such a lover, and enjoys being kissed, and petted.

Ardis is settling in well, and slowly coming out of her shell. She wags her tail quite a bit, but still holds it down. She is starting to make more eye contact with us. We really noticed her perk up when we introduced our two smaller dogs to her. Ardis is fantastic with our 2 1/2 year old little girl as well. I have not heard her bark, and she has only growled once at my schnauzer because he came too close to her while she was chewing on a rawhide. I was able to take the rawhide away from her with no problem, and she has not growled at us. In fact my little girl can hand feed her. Ardis is not sure about walks right now. She will walk a short distance on her leash, and then lay down and want to go home. I will continue to work on this with her. I'm guessing her previous owner did not walk her on a regular basis. Ardis does not pull much on her leash. I really think with enough TLC, this old girl will be fantastic for any family. I do not know how she is with cats. More updates as I get to know her better.
