Aurora 06-172

Profile

4/8/06: Pretty little princess Aurora is here! This petite (38#), 1-1/2 year old, red spitfire on four legs was surrendered to a shelter because her family wasn?t able to spend the time with her. She?s just too cute! Aurora is very energetic but is a little timid around loud noises and strange things (me too!). She had no objection to a bath or a nail trimming today and enjoyed being brushed. She likes toys but will let you take them. She is a little on the thin side so we are giving her lots of love and treats. After playing outside and going for walks today she is snoozing at our feet -what a doll!

Princess Aurora has adapted quite well to her new environment making herself very much at home. She is extremely spunky and gets along very well with our older resident Golden, teasing him and even jumping over him when he is in her way. As we have a lot of traffic on the adjacent sidewalk she now selectively greets some of the passersby. She does get along with most of the passing dogs and wants to play. She runs up and down our privacy fence when the little neighbor dogs are up for a race but will quit running and return to you when called.

We are still learning some of her particular behaviors, i.e. when she gets anxious or excited she needs to go out NOW, but generally she will sit by the door to let you know. She sleeps the entire night by our bed and is quite content. She does not appear to be frightened by the vacuum cleaner, the leaf blower or thunderstorms although thunder claps do warrant her attention. She is quite alert to sounds outside the house and with the nice weather has taken over the prime spot in front at the front door.. She does know some basic commands and is ready for additional training. A Gentle Leader on walks helps her focus and she enjoys the 2+ miles.

This is one smart little pup who will really flourish with some consistent training - she is such a fast runner and nuts about tennis balls that I can see her being the anchor leg in “fly ball” or excelling in “agility training.” – or just being a great addition to any family.

Aurora has blended into our family very well this week. She had her vet checkup and is now up-to-date on everything. The vet also confirmed a heart murmur and so she had an ECG last week as well. The "echo" confirmed that she has a Grade II heart murmur - the good news is that she has no physical restrictions nor needs any medicines. She should be checked again in about 18 months. She has the sweetest disposition and greatly enjoyed the Easter festivities with our grandchildren.
