Ava 21-035

Profile

Ava was lovingly surrendered to RAGOM due to her difficulty in getting along with the resident dog in her second home. Ava cannot live with other dogs or any small animals (including cats). Ava is good with people but children should be age 5+ because of Ava's tendency to rambunctious excitement. A physical fence is optional with a solid plan to keep her safe and avoid altercations with neighboring animals. Ava likes walks and is looking for a home with lots of people time and attention.

Ava will forever be the queen in her new loving home. Anything Ava wants, Ava will get. She has a beautiful home on secluded acreage and is already enjoying the large windows with views of wildlife. She will have plenty of affection and attention in her new home. Enjoy it Ava, you deserve it!

Ava got a spa day this week! Foster mom's grooming just wasn't cutting it, so Ava was scheduled with a professional. The groomer stated that "Ava was very sweet and was a good listener." Ava was noticeably happier when she returned home. She knows she is beautiful.

Her pristine groom didn't stay for long after the rain we received recently. The air has been crisp on Ava's morning walks and everything is covered in a layer of dew. Ava enjoys pushing the dew into a puddle with her nose and lapping it up. When allowed to wander off of the path, she loves rolling around in the wet grass and stomping in the deep mud of unplanted soil. I guess we may need to take her for another bath sooner than expected!

The most exciting thing Ava did this week was attend a RAGOM meet and greet at Chuck and Don's in Edina. She did well around the other dogs in attendance; she did not seem bothered by their presence at all.

She generally does well around other dogs outside of the home. It is when she has to share a home with another animal that she becomes defensive. Ava enjoyed meeting new friends at the meet and greet, although she was a little bit shy.

We invite you all to send in an inquiry so you can meet Ava one on one and see her personality come out a little bit more! You can view Ava's introduction at the meet and greet through this link: https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=3944062399019475&ref=watch_permalink

Ava is enjoying the warming weather. She is noticeably happier as she glows in sunlight on walks. We call her walks "recharging her sunshine."

Other animals such as geese, ducks, squirrels, raccoons, and rabbits are starting to come out of hiding within the neighborhood. Ava does not seem aware that they are present. She is more interested in smelling the newly planted flowers and eating grass.

Every couple of days, we take her to the closed off tennis courts to run in circles. She is starting to become more interested in grabbing the ball as we hit it back and forth across the net. In general, her energy levels have mellowed out and she doesn't become excited about every single thing anymore.

She also doesn't follow us around the house like she did when we first welcomed her. At times we miss super excitable Ava, but her mellowing energy levels have made it more manageable to function at home and leave her alone for long periods of time. We believe that she would be ok in a home with people who had to leave for extended periods.

We have not done any formal training with her, yet she has become very familiar with our routines. Every morning, she paws at her crate a few minutes before the alarm is supposed to go off. Twice a day she tries to lead us to her bowl or the front door when she knows it is her meal time or walk time.

She still becomes more excited than ever for these times of day. Curiously, she has also taught herself to immediately go into her crate when we go upstairs and will not come out unless she is called. She understands that time upstairs is for relaxing or sleeping.

She also has a favorite spot on the couch. If someone is sitting in her spot, she will sit on them. Ava is definitely a creature of habit and thrives on her routine.

She is weaned off of her medication and is thriving. She is perfectly healthy and ready to embrace her new life. Are you ready to accept this ray of sunshine into your home?

Ava is a three year old Golden Retriever who comes into foster care because she did not get along with her previous home's resident dog. She was lovingly surrendered to RAGOM so she can find a home where she can feel safe and blossom into the sweet, excitable girl that she has proven to be in foster care.

Ava had a rough start to her life before she was rescued through another organization and later surrendered to RAGOM from her second home. In her first home, she was left outside to defend herself from other dogs and was neglected. She was undersocialized and not given many of the things that she needed to grow to her full potential. Despite her rough past, Ava appears to be a happy, confident dog.

It does not take much to get Ava excited. Ava LOVES to meet new people. She is very friendly and will jump and wag her whole backside when she meets someone new. When she greets you, she will give kisses until you tell her to stop and will roll over for a belly rub.

She becomes equally excited when she knows it is time for food or a walk. She can hardly contain herself as she runs around the house in circles jumping up and down.

Ava is an early riser. She wakes us up every morning by sniffing and licking our faces and staring at us until we get out of bed. She does a few laps around the room when she is successful in her mission to get her humans out of bed. Although she frequently has these moments of pure joy and energy, most of the time Ava is relaxed and will cuddle when given the chance.

Ava obeys when directed toward her crate or bed and sometimes obeys when shown how to sit or lay down. However, she does not seem to have a firm grasp on any other physical or verbal commands.

In her puppyhood, we believe she did not have the opportunity to play, so she also does not seem to understand how to do activities such as fetch or tug-o-war. She does like to chew on bones to occupy herself. We feel that with patience from her adoptive family she has a great capacity to learn to play and follow direct commands.

Ava would do best with a family who is home more often than not. She appears to have a little bit of separation anxiety. She becomes anxious when locked behind a baby gate or in another room where she is not able to get to us. In some cases, she will bark loudly after we have left until she is reunited with us.

Ava cannot be in a home with other animals because of her history of being aggressive toward other animals. This includes cats and other small pets as well as other dogs.

She does not require a fenced yard; however, she cannot be left outside alone without a fence because of the risk of her getting in a fight with another dog in the neighborhood. She enjoys going on short walks and does well on a leash.

As explained above, Ava does well with all people, including children, but may overpower any children under 13 accidently due to her excitement. She has no other health or behavioral problems to consider. She is currently being weaned off of a medication that she may need to finish in her first week or two in her new home.

Ava is available to find her forever home right away. She looks forward to meeting all of you and getting lots of belly rubs!
