Baby 06-278

Profile

6/26/06: What a nice dog! I picked up Baby yesterday and she is just a doll. We could tell she wasn't feeling well, so we went to the vet today. She has an upper respiratory infection and worms, both of which we are treating and she seems to be feeling somewhat better already. She's a little gal weighing in at only 35 pounds. She is a 5 1/2 year old mix of Golden Retriever and Irish Setter, but I think she also has some Sheltie in her which would account for her delicate features, longer nose and small size. So far, she has been very happy to snooze most of the day on a very comfy pillow and sleeps in a crate at night.

I am anxious to see her personality emerge as she starts feeling better. So far, she has been a perfect little house guest! More later....

Hello everyone at RAGOM! It's me, Laci - aka: Baby 06-278.

Well, I have been at my new forever home in Wisconsin now for 3 whole weeks! I did so good on the 7 hour drive home; my new mommy almost got carsick because she kept turning around to make sure I was still there; I was SO quiet. Check out the cute picture of me in the car on my way to Packer-country!

As you can see, I have a new name. My mommy wanted to honor her last beloved RAGOM Golden, Cali, so she just switched the C and the L and got Laci! I learned my name super quick and I have a new pretty pink princess collar that says Laci in Swarovski crystals on it. I really AM a princess!

I'm still timid and shy, but I go to work with my mommy every day, and I am doing very well at meeting new people. I've also met 3 other dogs, and I did pretty well with that, too. I get shy at the vet, but that is because I was bitten in the cheek by another dog and I don't really like people looking at it. I know they are just trying to help me... My mom takes me to the vet sometimes just for a visit, too. They give me treats and pet me; no one even pokes me, it is just to say hi. My new vet, Dr. Pat, is very impressed with how hard my foster mommy Sue worked to make me all better after a terrible bout of pneumonia. The outlook was NOT good, but she took such good care of me; she even took me to the vet in MN daily for shots! My lungs are all better now; they work so well that now I even snore!! Below is a picture of me snoring away in my mommy's office!

Guess what? I get to start obedience classes in September! I'm going to get to meet new friends and learn lots of cool things, like "come" and not to be scared of the vacuum. I'm a little scared, but my mommy says it will be fun, and she will be with me the whole time. Plus, she said I'm going to get special treats on those nights, too!! I think she said something about turkey hot dogs... I still don't know how to play with toys or chase a tennis ball, but mommy is still trying to teach me. I've also included a picture of me enjoying the afternoon breeze before watching my very first Green Bay Packer game - of course they won!!

By the way, I've gained a whole pound! I'm 39.1 today, and Dr. Pat says I can gain 3 more if I want to. Mommy buys me these yummy little desserts at the pet store and they taste like carrot cake, peach cobbler, apple dumpling, and a bunch more flavors. I sure love those little snacks! Speaking of snacks, it is time for my bed-time snack, so I'd better get going!! I sure don't want to miss out on that. By the way, I really like sleeping in my mommy's bed! How come people's beds are so much bigger than doggies' beds?

Ta-ta for now! Love and Hugs,

Princess Laci

GREAT NEWS FOR BABY today. NOW SHE IS READY FOR HER FOREVER HOME. Her chest x-ray looked good today and she is off all medication and doesn't have to go back to the vet again! We can tell she feels soooo much better. We now see her tail wagging often and she is a happy dog! She looks forward to her meals and hopefully, she will put on a little weight (oh, to have that problem!!!)

She still remains the easiest dog to have around and loves the cuddles. She also loves to go on walks and looooves to go in the car. She is a very good passenger and I hardly know she is in the back seat.

Several times, I have put a baby gate on our upper deck and she thinks that's a great place to hang out, but watch out below. Baby considers it OUTSIDE and isn't bashful about pottying there! My son ALMOST had a very(!) unpleasant experience down below!!

When Baby was sick, it was hard to tell if she had any training before she came to us. Now, she comes when called, sits (much more reliably when there is a treat involved!), walks nicely on the leash, stays sometimes, and quite by accident, we learned that she speaks. It's the only time she barks and she kind of has to warm up her vocal cords before it is a true speak - it's soooo cute.

Baby is ready to meet you!!

BABY IS DOING GREAT! She did not have a fungus in her lungs which is great news, and her upper respiratory infection has responded very well to the antibiotics. She spent a day at the vet getting everything intravenously and is now returning to normal. What a week she had. It's just great to see her so much better. She will continue on antibiotics for two weeks.

Since she has been sick, it's hard to tell what her normal activity level will be, but it seems she will be a more inactive dog and might be a bit older than originally thought. She loves to snuggle and be petted and has also been very good about brushing (and that's good because she had lots of mats!). She's great about going in her kennel and doesn't seem to mind time alone. She is very calm and I have not heard her bark yet. This weekend, I hope to have her around some children so we can see if she likes playing with them. So far she's not interested in retrieving, but time will tell on that. There have been a few firecrackers going off, and so far no fear. It would be nice for baby to meet her forever family this weekend. She deserves to be home again.
