Bailey 05-292

Profile

9/1705: Bailey has arrived! She is a 3 year old female surrendered by her family because she hunts deer and wild turkeys on their farm, and then likes to bring them home with her. She was able to get out of the "pen" they had for her, so they felt it best that she find a new home, preferably one with a nice fenced yard. RAGOM got Bailey from the Humane Society because she is heartworm positive; blood work was positive, but a chest x-ray showed no changes, so hopefully this is a very mild and easily treatable case. Bailey is recently spayed, chipped, and has had some of her vaccinations. She is a beautiful deep red color with lots of waves. She met everyone in a very friendly manner, but has decided she doesn't like Teddy charging at her from across the room and has been a bit growly with him. She is also a bit possessive of one of the bones, so it has been removed from play for now... I think she's just trying to assert her position in the pack. Otherwise she's very mellow and has been content to sit quietly near me. Bailey has lived with older children and cats, so I think finding a new home for her should be relatively easy. I'm not very good at taking puppy pictures, but here is a little peek at Bailey...

Bailey has an appointment with the vet on Monday to determine the extent of her heartworm and decide on the best course of treatment.

First off, shame on me for letting a month pass by without an update on Bailey!! Bailey came home with us after the RAGOM picnic. She got sick on the way home, but has been fine on the few car rides she’s had since then. Bailey had her first heartworm treatment on September 29th and has been doing great. It’s been hard to keep her quiet, because she gets SO excited when we come home, wake up or even pet her! She is just the sweetest little girl and she squeaks and squeaks when she’s getting attention. She’s also very much a lap dog. She even climbed up into my lap while I was working on the computer one day! She also loves to snuggle in bed with us. Bailey’s a petite little thing and weighs around 58 pounds. She has the softest, silkiest coat I’ve ever felt! She does great with my dogs, cats and 2 year old daughter. The only bad thing I can say about Bailey is that she does the Golden nudge thing a bit too aggressively! We’ve just been ignoring her when she does that and she doesn’t get any attention until she sits nicely. Bailey has pretty good manners and knows sit, down and stay for a short period of time. I really can’t say how she does on walks, because she hasn’t been able to go on one since she’s been here. Bailey is housetrained, when we are here anyway. She will have accidents if we leave her out while we are gone though. Bailey is also one of those Goldens that needs to have something in her mouth at all times! She doesn’t chew anything, just carries it around. It doesn’t matter if it’s stuffed toys, shoes, socks or even towels!

Bailey will be going in for the rest of her heartworm treatment later this week. The most exciting news Bailey has to share is that she will be meeting a family on Saturday!! We’ll be sure to update after her treatment and meeting with the potential adoptive family.
