Last weekend, from a filthy barn full of nearly 90 dogs suffering the ravages of neglect, 12 Golden Retrievers were welcomed into warm homes and the loving arms of RAGOM volunteers. Among them was a litter of eight puppies, only four weeks old, including Sweet Rona.

With the help of several members of the RAGOM transport team, Rona and her brothers and sisters made the long car trip to Minnesota without their mom (though the puppies weren’t weaned, the mill owner refused to surrender the dam). Since their arrival, several of her siblings have been diagnosed with Parvovirus, and one, Ali, has died. Though Miss Rona did have some symptoms of the disease she is now over five pounds and doing well, and RAGOM will do everything possible to keep her that way.

Named after long-time volunteer Rona D., little Rona has the spirit, determination and big heart of her namesake. She has survived some of the worst that people have to offer a dog, and come through it with her Golden smile and her tail wagging, ready to give the two-leggers in her life a second chance.

Once Rona has been spayed, and is ready to leave her littermates, she will be available for adoption. Are you the family that can teach this sweet girl that life is good? Would you consider making a donation of any amount to help defray the medical costs for these pups? Do you have the resources to sponsor this girl in honor of a dog who blessed you, a survivor in your life, or just because she needs your help?

Hey RAGOMites and RAGOMuffins,I thought it was time to share my happy ending. I am the artist puppy formerly known as Rona 11-017. I am now known as Bailey, but humans can’t pronounce my real name but daddy says it translates as “fierce and warlike”. (what was that noise, gotta hide,,,,,okay safe now)

Anyway, I have completed the rescue of mom and dad. Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer two days before they were supposed to pick me up. They called and told Momma D (foster Mom) that they couldn’t spoil me “fresh” because of whatever that cancer stuff is, but I told Momma D, “NO PROBLEM, I’LL take care of them”…..and of course I did, and now, two years later, Mom is fully recovered and I have both of my parents trained.

I’ve made lots of friends through RAGOM and at the Dog Park…Honey, Mack, Binger, Ozzy (Pawsborne, Prince of Barkness), Louis, Cinco, Victor, Gus, Bandit, Katie and many more. Of course, my Ragom and foster mom friends are more like family (Chas, Pippin, Heather, Megs, Rocko, Raven, Jimmy, Willow and this new critter, Maverick) and the two-leggeds those guys are training seem to be coming along nicely. I love having sleepovers with them and when they come swimming at my pond……..On Golden Pond….mom and dad always laugh at that, they are dorks.

Now it is time to start teaching some new dogs how to train their two-leggeds. I made Mom and Dad get some extra training (Lassie knows they need it) and now I can have a dog come stay with me. It won’t be easy for them though, as I have a full slate of seminars and trainings planned. Included in the curriculum is

  • Pooh: A metaphysical reality
  • Walks: A RIGHT and a privilege
  • Food: Keep it coming……
  • TREATS: More Peanut Butter Please
  • Beds and how to hog them
  • Better Living through sad eyes manipulations and
  • TOYS: It’s all fun and games till the squeaker is gone.

Well, that is one Happy Ending and a new happy beginning. Look for my updates on RAGOM's Happy Endings page. Oh yea, get one of those Capital One credit cards too, just cuz me and my sibs are on the front and RAGOM gets some money for all the times it gets used to buy us food, treats, gas for car rides, etc…

Hi, everyone, it's me Rona. Today is a very big day for me as I am going to my forever home with my very own forever family!! I'm even getting a new name to go along with my new life. My new name is Bailey and I have a mom and dad and two cat siblings. I don't know much about cats but foster mom said I'll be fine....they will let me know what I can get away with.....she says they are small but can rule the house so just let them be and they will be fine.....kind of like Jimmie....she's nice but likes her space and things on her terms. I'm excited to have my own family as I know there is so much for me to do in this big world....I am very adventurous so it's good I will get to do new stuff and be the only dog in my new house.....I get all the attention.

Foster mom says I will get to visit again as my new mom and dad will need a dog sitter so I get to come back and stay with foster mom....how cool is that? Hank will be hanging out here with foster mom for a couple of weeks so I will get to play with him again if I come over in the next few weeks....yippee that will be fun!!

Rona and Hank

Here's a photo of me with my new mom and dad...sure they will send some with me and the cats!!

Well, got to go run around a few more times and say see ya to Rocco, Tanner and Jimmie.....talk at you all later.....thanks to all my friends for taking care of me,

Rona AKA Bailey

Hi everyone it's me Rona and I have fantastic news to share.  Last week we had tons of new visitors and all of the new visitors came by just to see us puppies....not to help care for us but to meet us because they want to make us part of their families.  So guess what?  I have a forever family of my own!!  Yup, I will have a mom and a dad and two cat siblings to hang out with.  My new folks have a huge house and are already planning to get me a brother or sister dog after I've adjusted to my new home.....they will adopt another dog from RAGOM when it is time.....yippee, Skippy....how cool is that??  I'm pretty excited about my new home, I'll miss foster mom and my siblings but I know I will get to see them all again....already heard talk about puppy play dates and a reunion at Goldzilla in September.  I now weigh 15.2 pounds, I weighed 3.88 pounds on January 23rd, so I've grown a lot.

Next week I have to go to the doctor for my operation so that I cannot have any puppies.....you know there are already so many puppies in the world that need homes so RAGOM makes sure none of us RAGOM dogs can add to the population.  Foster mom says I have to spend the night at the doctor after my surgery but I will not be alone as Quigley and Ardis will be having their surgery on the same day.....oh boy, I'm glad I will have my brother and sister to keep me company.  I will be able to go to my forever home in a day or two after I get home from the doc.  Until then I am keeping busy learning all kinds of new stuff, how to do stairs, how to sit and stay, and most of all, working on not going potty in the house....so far I'm doing well.....use my potty pads 90% of the time....sometimes I miss the pad, but at least I'm trying to go where I'm supposed to go.....unlike a certain brother of mine who goes where ever he happens to be....gross boys!!  Well, time to play with Kitra and Quigley.....talk to you all later, Rona.

Sweet Rona, on the left in the picture, is finishing up some meds to treat the Giardia and Coccidia she picked up as a result of unsanitary water conditions at the commercial breeding operation where she was born. The medicine tastes bad, but Rona just puts her chin up and does what has to be done. She would like to remind all the special humans in her life not to eat puppy poop (even from a princess) so they can avoid this nasty bug! Consider yourself warned!

She also wants to send huge puppy kisses to her new ladies-in-waiting, Melonie and Katherine! While the five surviving puppies are all in good health, it took well over $20,000 to make it happen. Thanks to the generous support of people like Melonie, Katherine and Susannah, RAGOM is gaining ground on the bills, but we need more help! Which one of you handsome fellows out there wants to be Rona’s prince? Visit http://ragom.org/shop/featured/donate-93.html to make a difference!

Hello friends!  I am having such a good time with my brothers and sisters, especially when we get to play on the floor or in the snow.  The other day a RAGOM friend came to visit and we got to run around the room willy-nilly and show her how good we are.  When we got done with all our puppy fun, there was a poop on the floor.  I don’t know who was responsible, but I can tell you it wasn’t me.  A snow princess would never make such a faux pas!  I don’t think it was FM or our visitor either, ‘cause neither of them seem like the poo-on-the-carpet type.  It was probably one of my brothers… There’s no accounting for boy humor.

We get lots of visitors and helpers that want to play and snuggle with us, but I still like my FM the best!  She took us to the vet yesterday and we got our shots and got weighed.  It’s a little unseemly to share your weight with the world, so I’ll just tell you I am perfect for my size!  If you think a sweet girl would be a good fit for your family, I could be the one for you!

I’m a snow princess! FM says I’ll probably like this stuff even better in the summer when it’s called water, but I think she’s trying to trick me! What could be more fun than this?

Look at this sweet little girl! You can see her licking some yogurt off her nose in one of her new pics. FM and the other RAGOM volunteers have to feed each of the pups small meals every few hours because their tummies are still recovering. In an ideal situation, they would still be with their dam for another week or two, and would just be finishing up weaning.

At night, Rona and her healthy sibs snuggle in a big pup pile in the whelping box. It is so good to see them together doing normal puppy things! Switch off the light and they are off to dream about goose poop, dead fish and other doggie delights.

Like Lwood, Rona is easy-going and a champion snuggler. She loves to cuddle up with her sibs and her peeps. How can you not fall in love with this sweet face?!?
