It is my great pleasure to introduce you to Barley 10-004. I want to thank transport for getting Barley to us.
Barley is a PB GR and a very handsome fellow. Barley turned seven years old on December 10, 2009. He has a dark red coat and the most beautiful face. He truly could be a "poster boy" for what a GR should look like. I have only been able to get one good picture of Barley, because he is camera shy and tries to hide.
Barley has been to the vet and he is a healthy boy, although a little on the thin side as he only weighs 61 pounds. He was neutered and brought up to date on his vaccinations. He also was mcirochipped. The vet and the assistants said he was a perfect gentleman during all of the poking and prodding. Barley did test positive for hookroom. Barley has had the first round of the treatment and will have the second round in two weeks.
Barley met our resident senior with tail wagging. Barley also met the "relatives" who came to visit. He was a little cautious at first, but it didn't take very long for him to approach everyone for attention.
Barley has had a bath, got dried and fluffed with the hairdryer, was brushed, and his dirty ears cleaned. He behaved perfectly with no complaints.
Barley loves his tennis balls. He retrieves beautifully and drops the ball right in front of you so you can throw it again, again, again, again!!! Barley also likes to play with "rope" toys and likes to carry them around in his mouth.
Barley is very affectionate and is a velcro dog who wants to be with people. Barley is curious about everything. Barley seeks out attention and loves to be petted. In fact as I am trying to type his update, he is pestering me to pet him. Barley isn't very vocal and I have yet to hear him bark
Barley has had free roam since being here and has had no accidents. Barley is crate/kennel trained. He goes right in. He has slept in the wire kennel since arriving and only got up in the middle of the night the first two nights. Since then he goes in and doesn't make a sound until he hears that someone is up.
Barley is a bit of a Houdini. We discovered he knows how to open a latched gate. He got out of the fenced backyard and we thought for sure we would have to chase him, but FD called his name and he came right back. The gate now has a "security latch." It doesn't appear he knows sit, but does seem to know "no" and "off."
Barley does pull on the leash when we walk, but the farther we walk the better he does. We will try a gentle leader in a day or two if he continues to pull on the leash.
Barley is insisting that it is time to play "throw the ball" so we will write again soon.If you think Barley might be that special dog for you, please contact your placement
