Bauer (Rusty 08-514)

Profile

Rusty is an adorable 10 month old puppy. He is such sweetie! He was at the vet yesterday and he is very healthy. Just needs to gain a couple of pounds. He is going back in on Friday to get neutered. He is a lively guy, that is extremely good natured. He loves other dogs and loves to play with toys and chew his bone. He also loves to run! A house with a fence of some kind would be ideal, but not necessary. He doesn't bark much. He seems to be housetrained and knows the command "sit". I think with proper training he could be a great hunting dog! If you re interested in Rusty, please contact Placement.

I sat down to type an update on Bauer today and realized it has been almost 5 years since the last one.  Wow, where has the time gone?!  One of the biggest changes in Bauer's life is that his fur brother Cooper passed away in 2015.  They were such great friends and his passing was tough on Bauer.  It took him 6 months to start playing with toys again and he really felt the loss of his BFF.  This is one of my favorite pictures of them together, taken by our friend Devon.

Someone else who took Cooper's passing very hard was Shiloh, our foster dog at the time.  We had been fostering her for about 18 months when Cooper passed away and she really missed him.   About a month later, we realized Shiloh was right where she belonged and we knew Cooper would want us to give her a forever home.  Bauer was just as happy with our decision!  Now he struts around town showing off "his girls" Betty and Shiloh.

Bauer had a few surgeries since our last update in order to remove some cysts.  During one of his surgeries they determined his tail needed to be amputated due to the location of the cyst, and when it had trouble healing, he had a 2nd surgery two weeks later in order to amputate it further.  He pulled thru like a champ and was a great little patient!   It wasn't long until he was enjoying life again as if nothing had ever happened.

One of the things I love most about Bauer is that he truly enjoys life.  He is always up for an adventure and is the happiest boy!

Bauer loves hitting up patios with us in the summer and he gets so many compliments on what a good boy he is!  He is so friendly, and of course, incredibly handsome!  We love showing him off whenever we get the chance.

He loves our adventures together but is just as happy hanging in the backyard with us on a nice day.

It's hard to believe it's been almost 9 years since we adopted him and gave him a forever home.   He's not as wild and crazy as he was back then but he still has his moments!  He's still very active and people always mistake him for a much younger dog.   We're so lucky he chose us all those years ago!

It's hard to believe Bauer's been with us for 4 years - we are so lucky to have him in our lives!  This past year brought about some changes for Bauer - both good and not so good.  We moved from our townhouse into a single family home with a nice big yard.  The first order of business was getting a fence installed.  Bauer absolutely loves running around and stretching his legs every time we go out for a potty break.  Even better yet, he loves our nightly games of fetch!  He and Cooper love all the extra room to wrestle and play.  Bauer also became a foster brother this year and helped us welcome 6 RAGOM pups into our home while they waited for their forever families.  One of those foster siblings stayed, and Bauer couldn't be more thrilled!  We adopted Betty in July after she was rescued from a puppy mill.  I don't think I've ever been so proud of Bauer - Betty has him to thank for making so much progress!  He is an amazing foster brother and it warms my heart to see how good he is with them.  We are looking forward to fostering many more dogs in the future.

Shortly after we moved into our new home, Bauer became sick and started to throw up blood.  After a thorough visit with the vet, he was found to have ulcers. While the change to a new home with a nice yard was a positive thing, it also made him worried.  Due to his history as a stray, I'm sure he thought his life might be changing again and he was probably afraid he might lose us.  We assured him he was here to stay with us forever!   Since that time we discovered that any sort of change to his physical environment is hard on him.  When we bought a new chair, for example, he became a little depressed and was sad for a few days, again being a little confused as to why things were changing around him.  Sometimes it is so hard not knowing what his life was like before RAGOM rescued him, but we do know that he will have a loving home with us for the rest of his life.

After we moved we learned Bauer also does not like when the neighbor dog runs our fence line.  I can't say I really blame him!  We had a bad experience with a loose dog in our last home, and I think Bauer feels he needs to protect us now by barking like a crazy boy every time the dog runs the fence.  It drives our neighbors nuts, but I have to say that I actually feel bad for them because they don't get to see the wonderful boy that Bauer truly is.  They don't get to see the amazing boy that cuddles up next to me in the morning and falls back asleep with his head on my chest. They don't get to see the dog that is a wonderful RAGOM Ambassador, going to events or to the vet with his foster siblings when they're nervous. They don't see the wonderful brother that he is to Betty - he taught her how to go up and down the stairs when she was too afraid, and taught her to go thru doorways and take treats when she was terrified to do so.  He showed her that humans petting you can be an absolutely wonderful thing.  He's her escort every couple of weeks when we go to the local pet food store, showing her she doesn't need to be afraid of going to new places.  He goes to daycare and dog parks and gets along with everyone that he meets.  He's the perfect home visit dog because he gets along with every child and adult that he meets and has a blast playing with the other dogs on our visits.  It's true, Bauer may have some issues, but isn't that what rescue is all about?  We will never know his past, but what we do know is that his future will continue to be filled with nothing but unconditional love.  Some people tell us that Bauer's lucky he has us. I think they have it all wrong - WE are the lucky ones, because we have him!

Hi RAGOM friends!

Someone reminded my mom it's been awhile since she's updated everyone on my life, so I thought I'd let you know what I've been up to! I still go to daycare and I think it's the most fun thing in the world. This year I got to have a birthday party there and they made me my very own cake! I'm so lucky!

We moved into a new house this summer with a nice big yard for us to run around and play in. Cooper and I love it here! And mom and dad got us a very special housewarming present - a fence! Now we run and play every time we go outside, it's so much fun!

We also had fun this summer just relaxing and helping with the chores - mom said I'm the perfect supervisor!

I still go on lots of home visits and everyone falls in love with me. What can I say, I'm pretty charming! I'm also going to be a foster brother - isn't that exciting?! I've worked really hard on my manners and I think I'll set a good example for all the doggies that live with us while they're looking for their forever homes. I can't wait!

Thanks again, RAGOM, for everything you did for me while I was waiting for my forever family. I'm so very lucky they found me!

It's hard to believe we adopted Bauer two years ago already.  The old saying is true - time sure flies when you're having fun!!  Adopting Bauer has been such a rewarding experience for us.  He was a little wild man when we adopted him, but he's grown into the most wonderful dog.  We saw his potential from the very beginning and have enjoyed watching him grow into the amazing boy he is today.  He still gets excited in new situations, but we are continually working on that and he gets better and better with each day that goes by.  He now goes to doggy daycare once a week and everyone just LOVES him there - he's such a popular little guy!!   He and Cooper are the best of friends - they go everywhere together and I think they would be so lost without each other.  I think it's safe to say we would all be lost without Bauer, too.  He has been such a great addition to our home - he has added so much fun and laughter to our lives and we love every minute with him.

We just really want to say thank you, RAGOM, from the bottom of our hearts!!  Thank you for saving him when no one else wanted him.  And thank you for bringing us together - he is an amazing little boy and we truly can not imagine our lives without him!

Hi everyone!

I thought I should send in another update to tell you what's been going on in my life.  I had a doggie DNA test done and guess what?  I'm a cross between a Golden Retriever and Irish Setter!  Mom and Dad say I'm just plain handsome!  And for that matter, so does everyone else.  Today when we were out on a walk everyone kept telling my mom what beautiful boys she had.

My mom started volunteering with RAGOM and we love doing home visits together.  It's the perfect job for me because I always love making new friends!  Cooper and I had so much fun playing in the snow this winter but we're glad Spring is here - I love sitting by the window watching everyone walk by.  I'm excited the birds are coming back, too!  And I can't WAIT to go camping - mom is even buying me my own chair this year.  How lucky am I?!!

I saved the most exciting news for last.  I have free roam of the house now - all the time!!  Can you believe it?!  I've had free roam for almost five months and I've been such a good boy!!  I've come a long way from my mattress chewing days, that's for sure!

As always - a special thank you to RAGOM for making my dreams come true.  I'm such a happy boy and I am spoiled rotten - I really hit the jack pot!

Hi everyone! I've been with my family an entire year and we've had so much fun together. I am spoiled rotten - my mom buys so many toys for us. So far this year she's had to buy 2 new toy bins because we keep outgrowing them. This year they introduced me to camping, the dog park, and my most favorite place of all - the woods! My nose is always at work when we're there and so far I've flushed a couple of pheasants. My foster family was able to come up and I took them up to the woods to show them my favorite spot. I think they had a lot of fun - especially my foster sister Cami! We were all pooped out at the end of the day from all the fun and excitement!!

I also went to the Ragom picnic for the first time. Cooper told me all about it before we got there - this was his 3rd year at the picnic. He was right on the money when he told me how much fun I would have. I swam forever - I saw Clifford and we ran around in the water chasing after each other. The walk was fun, too. Mom and Dad said they were sooooo proud of me because I was so well behaved. A nice lady even came up to us at the picnic and asked if she could take my picture - she said I was so handsome!! What can I say - she's right!

My family really takes good care of me. I was pretty skinny when they brought me home but they fed me lots of good food this year and I gained 15 lbs! Yippee! I weigh 74 lbs. and now I'm at the perfect weight. I'm still getting taller, too - Mom and Dad can hardly believe it! I used to hate getting my nails trimmed but I'm getting much better - Dad just waits until I'm all pooped out and then I don't wiggle much. I like getting brushed now, too - I don't even squirm anymore! But .... I still do not like baths. I despise them! I try to climb up the walls and escape out of the tub. It's always an adventure!

Thanks for following my story this year. I'm safe and happy and loved very much. My family loves me sooooooo much and I love them back just as much. I can't believe how lucky I am - I hope all the Ragom dogs find a great home just like I did. All puppies deserve to live the golden life!!

From Bauer's (fka Rusty) forever family...

Here are our favorite pictures of Bauer. He is such a happy little boy and I think his big smile shows how happy he is to have such a wonderful life! He loves to play fetch and loves to run and play in the woods. He also loves his fur brother Cooper very much!! They give each other kisses all the time. He is such a blessing and we are so happy that we took a chance on this little bundle of energy. Sure, he loves to race around the kitchen table over and over again, and yes, he thinks it's fun to steal toilet paper and dish towels, but we can't imagine our lives without him.

We didn't realize we were missing anything in our lives, but when Bauer came home, we realized that this was meant to be. Whoever imagined that we needed him even more than he needed us. It breaks our hearts to know that someone either abandoned him, or didn't look for him hard enough after he ran away. As sad as that is, we know that it was meant to be. Now he's right where he belongs, and will never again be without all the love and affection that he so much deserves.

Hi RAGOM,

Well, if you didn't figure it out by reading my past updates, I found a family who loves me very much.  When my Mom came home recently, this is what she discovered!!!  And you know what?  She LAUGHED!  Cooper and I couldn't believe it.  He thought I would be in BIG trouble.  My mom said she would have preferred to come home and find me on the kitchen table (like they talk about in the home visits), but she said this was so over the top she couldn't help but laugh.  She's also thankful they held off on that new bed they were going to buy a couple of months ago.

So, I hope you know you found the perfect family for me.  But Mom and Dad did say it's back to the kennel tomorrow.  I guess Cooper will have to lay in front of it and talk to me like he did in the old days.  We used to try and hatch an escape plan but were never successful.  Hopefully we'll have better luck this time!

Hi everyone!  I've had another exciting few months with my family.  This past weekend I went camping for the first time and it was SO much fun!!  I got to roll around in the dirt, eat sticks, and get special treats (yum, pig snouts!)  This year mom and dad decided to get a new tent.  They figured some extra room would be nice since there are 4 of us now.  They thought Cooper and I would enjoy having half a tent to ourselves when we went to sleep at night.  So do you know where we slept?  With mom and dad.  On a full size air mattress.  That's right, all 4 of us slept there - it was so cozy we fell asleep right away!  But Cooper and I did discover what all that extra room was good for - wrestling!!  Mom and dad weren't too happy when we woke them up at 6 a.m. to enjoy wrestle mania.  I don't think they were too upset though, because they kept laughing.   I just graduated from Beginner 2 obedience class tonight.  This former wild child went thru 10 weeks of training and mastered lots of new skills!!  Mom and I really bonded throughout the training because my dad had to work the same nights I had school.  But dad also practiced with me throughout the week and would always tell me what a good job I was doing.  They both said they are sooooo proud of me!  I can do sit, stay (even when mom and dad leave and go to a different room), prolonged stay (for more than 30 minutes!) lay down, come, and much more!  I'm told I am a very good boy and do awesome at come when I'm off my leash (except when there are birds and squirrels around - I love to chase them and don't always listen the first time I'm called.  I just have a one track mind when I see them!)  During Beginner 2 we also did some agility training.  I can walk across a teeter totter, weave between poles, go thru tunnels, jump over bars (good thing I practiced with that baby gate!), and walk across a balance beam.  The balance beam is a log that's a few feet off the ground - my teacher said I've mastered it.  That's because I can eat the bark while walking across it and not lose my balance!   You won't believe it, but mom and dad have started leaving me out of my kennel when they run errands sometimes.  I've been such a good boy!  But, I have developed a thing for pillows.  I never touch them when mom and dad are gone, or when we're sleeping at night, but sometimes I'll pull their pillows off the bed and leave them on the floor for them to find when they come upstairs.  I'll admit I got into a couple of pillow fights with myself and destroyed a couple of pillows.  But, at least I didn't chew holes in the carpet like Cooper did when he was a puppy!  I think mom and dad are thankful for that! Dad tells me I'm such a great hunter!  He doesn't hunt too much anymore, but he said I make him want to hunt again!  I am so good at finding all the birds - grouse, pheasants, quails, you name it!  If I can smell them I can find them!  That's why I love going up to the woods all the time - it's so much fun!  And did I mention I love squirrels??  I could chase them all day long! Cooper and I just love the dog park.  I get so excited when we go and wag my tail like crazy - and not just back and forth -  but 'round and 'round in a circle!  I'm told I look so cute when I do it!   I suppose I should be going.  Cooper and I got some new toys so it's time for a game of tug o' war!  I'll see you at the picnic - I'll be the handsome red head! Bauer 08-514

We thought we'd send another little update on Bauer. He continues to make us laugh each and every day. He likes to start off each day with a game of "catch me if you can" with the kitchen towel. He just LOVES running around the table with it! He also likes to take the rug out of the bathroom - we'll hear a noise and there he is, running out of the bathroom with the rug in the corner of his mouth! It's actually pretty cute - he's hanging onto one corner, then stepping and tripping on the back of it, with this look on his face like - why aren't I going anywhere?!! It's beyond cute. He also taught himself a new trick - he can take the entire toilet paper roll off - holder and all. He just goes right up to it and puts his mouth around it and pulls - quite talented!

Bauer will graduate from Beginner 1 obedience class this week and then it's on to Beginner 2 in the Spring, which will focus more on agility training. We have no doubt he'll do great - he can already jump the baby gate in a single leap!

When we first brought Bauer home he would bark for a long period of time when we put him into his crate. It broke our hearts!! But now he goes right in and has no problems - not a single peep out of him. I think he knows he is in his forever home and will never be abandoned again. We just love him so much and are so happy that we were chosen as his forever family. He brings so much happiness and laughter to our lives and we are totally in love with this little guy. I know Cooper is also happy to have a playmate - they are the best of friends!!

Enjoy the pictures!

Hi Ragom fans! Bauer here - but you may remember me as Rusty 08-514. Guess you could say my new family loves hockey - my fur brother's name is Cooper! I was adopted two months ago and I love my new life! My mom and dad even let me sleep on the bed!! I get 2 walks a day and they also take us to the woods by our house to run and play. Cooper and I love to wrestle up there in all the snow. I also went to the dog park for the first time last weekend - talk about fun! Everyone kept saying what a handsome boy I was. I think my most favorite thing to do is play with my brother Cooper - we have so much fun together! We love to play tug with our toys - my dad doesn't think it's too much fun - he had to sew 9 of our toys today! But he said it's okay because we're worth it.

I've already went to a "mini" training class and do "sit" and "down" very well. I start my official obedience classes next week - mom said she's sure I'll do great, I catch on pretty quickly! Well, I have to admit, I don't always catch on quickly. One day my mom was outside with Cooper, and when she came in, she couldn't believe her eyes - I had taken some dishes out of the sink and was licking them clean on the floor!!! She said she couldn't be mad and just laughed for a long time. But she did say that I need to try and control myself in the future!

I am so happy with my new family and I think they are pretty happy, too. Sometimes my mom gets tears in her eyes when she pets me because she's so thankful that she found me. I just give her kisses so she knows that I'm thankful, too! (I also give Cooper kisses, too, which mom and dad think is pretty cute). I have such a great life and I am so happy that Ragom helped me find my furever family. I am also thankful to my FM and FD for taking such great care of me until I found my furever home. I look forward to seeing them again in the future.

Well, I hear Cooper getting a toy out of the toy basket, gotta run!

We are getting to know Rusty and we have found out that he loves his belly rubs! He is also housetrained.

I jogged with Rusty tonight for about three miles, and it really helped him calm down for awhile. He was very cuddly and affectionate with us. He will require plenty of exercise until he gets a little older. He still has most of his puppy habits (mouthing and chewing), so training will be important. I can't say enough for how much potential he has, though. Once he learns some manners he will be an absolutely wonderful dog (he already is).

Rusty is settling in very nicely.  He is a happy little guy that is alway s looking to get into something.  I have learned not to leave anything on the edges of the counter or it might just get taken! Exercise is something this guy craves.  He loves runs and walks and most importantly, he LOVES people.  He always wants to be where the people are.  You have to love it!   Rusty is getting neutered tomorrow.
