Baxter is showing off his lovely new Christmas scarf. He is definitely getting into the holiday spirit and becoming more energetic each day. He will be going to the vet next week to have a check-up and see how he has healed. He loves to play with the other dogs and with his toys. His incision has healed nicely and his fur is growing back. Watch for more updates in the days to come!!

Baxter/Clifford is continuing to recuperate after his shoulder surgery. Our biggest challenge is to keep him from playing too roughly with our two dogs. Our dog Maren, is a good sized dog and she seems very small compared to Baxter. Her new nickname is Maren the Midget!! Baxter will return to MN in two weeks for a medical appt. and see if any additional surgery is in his future.
Baxter loves to chew on socks so we are thankful we have four kids, and numerous mismatched socks, to provide him with!! He also likes to chew on Nylabones and go for short walks each day. Baxter loves to be where the people are, esp. the kitchen!! Baxter hopes you all have a great Thanksgiving and that he gets a taste of some turkey!! Here are some new photos of Baxter/Clifford, the big gold dog!!

Baxter is busy settling in to his new fosterhome in Iowa. He has made fast friends of foster sis golden Maren and Yosi the shih tzu. He is not sure what to make of the cats but is not having problems with them. Baxter is doing very well in his recovery. He is walking well and able to go up and down the stairs. He is quite a big boy and we have nicknamed him "Clifford the big gold dog". Baxter/Clifford will spend a few weeks here in the south and then head back up north for another medical appt. In the meantime, he will be recuperating here and getting all the attention he deserves. Please contact placementragom [dot] org for more information!!!

What a trooper our Baxter is, he had major surgery yesterday and he is doing well all things considered. I picked him up at 4:00 this afternoon and he is resting quietly at my feet. It seems that all the other dogs know that Baxter is hurting because they are leaving him alone.
Baxter walks pretty well on this leg which I can not believe I have taken a picture so you can see what really happened. On the other side he has a bald spot from the fetnal patch. Yes this boy is on some great drugs for the next few days.
I have been so blessed to foster this guy. He is just such an inspiration and gentle giant. I have Newfoundland’s but this boy has stolen my heart and it will be so difficult to let him go for a few weeks to recuperate in another foster home in Iowa. But the great thing about fostering is you get to know your other fosters and they keep you in the loop on how everything is going.
Please, have a heart and at least look at this wonderful boy. Yes, he had surgery and yes he may need one more but he needs a home too. If you are interested in meeting Baxter, please contact placement so we can talk to you. I know he would love to know he has a home to call his own once his recovery is over.

This past weekend we have been getting the yard work done. We have had so much help from Baxter I am sure he is exhausted. We have woods in the back yard and we needed to get 15 trees cut down and chopped up. Baxter and Sassy the fosters and our 3 dogs had to be a part of the fun and excitement. Baxter thought the best part was grapping twigs and running away with them. Oh yes and than of course he thought he had to chew them up for us. I just don’t know why he could not get a grasp on we would burn them. He watched us for two days straight burn the fire pit, might I add it got to be a HUGE fire pit. Opps.
Baxter has been doing so well that we have not had to give him pain meds during the day. We only give them at night. He is right there wanting to play at all times. Now Mistee and Baxter play outside where the ground is not slippery. We let them play for 3 or 4 minutes at a time. Things are going great and honestly I believe his joints are getting stronger and stronger. It just amazed me he was not in a lot of pain when he got up this morning because we were outside ALL day yesterday and again today. He is very ready for a nap now.
I wanted to send a few more pictures of Baxter before he starts his surgery. He will go in to the vet on Tuesday and we will pick him up on Wednesday afternoon. We are worried for him because he is such a wonderful young boy. But he is strong and I believe he will do well. Then his other foster mom and I will decide if Baxter should go to her house for a two week visit or stay here until the next surgery. We will let Baxter make this decision, how he will do that is by the way he handles our hardwood floors. We are pretty worried about that.
So please, keep Baxter the great in your thoughts and prayers. He has a slow road ahead of him, but he will do fine with the love and support of his foster parents and RAGOM. Again, he is available for adoption, it will just be a while before he can leave, but I know he would love to visit with people, so feel free to contact placementragom [dot] org if you want to meet him.
By the way, yes Baxter is as big as he looks!

Happy Halloween! Welcome to the world of Baxter, are you ready for his medical update. This boy is so incredible special. Baxter went to see the orthopedic Surgeon and she said he has a few issues that need to be fixed. He has two front shoulders that have OCD lesions. Really what it means is he will have surgery to correct some small issues. The good news is we will do one shoulder on Monday the 5th of November (yep coming right up) and than 2 weeks, possible 3 weeks later we will do the other side.
When Dr. R. looked at the back hips they are a little loose, but she is hopeful that this will tighten up when Baxter is able to walk correctly. She did say to get him off Puppy food immediately. So we have done that and put him on Pet chef, the same food as all the other dogs.
Baxter just loves to pay with Sophee. Sophee is doing so well with Baxter, she knows that he can not play rough so she brings him toys and they play with them while he lies down. I have added one of these pictures because it truly is precious. Every once in a while they start playing to rough and than Baxter gets pretty sore and needs meds, but for now he is doing great and looking even better!
So, I know the surgery thing is a little scary but we will talk everyone through it. If you are interested in meeting Baxter, please let us know because I am actually co-fostering Baxter. His other foster lives in Iowa so we will be bringing him down to her around the 10th so he can re-coop from the first surgery and than we will meet again, bring Baxter up here, have surgery and than send him back to Iowa for his rehab.
We would love the opportunity to get him to adoption pending if you are interested in him. He is a great boy and will go a long ways once he is fixed up and than enrolled in obedience classes. I can not wait for YOU to meet him! Please contact placementragom [dot] org.
Thanks for looking at Baxter!
