Bear 08-176

Profile

Introducing Bear!  Yes, he is a bear...of sorts.  He weighs in at 115 lbs.  He's about 30 lbs. overweight, according to the vet.  Bear came to us from an owner in Iowa that couldn't keep him anymore.  We've had him for a week and he's starting to figure out our routine.

Bear, like any cub, likes to get into trouble.  He does some counter surfing, which with correcting, is getting better.   He'll steal food out of the pantry if we're not careful.  He gets a little nippy when he's excited.  So, we've been keeping a gentle leader on him around the house until he learns the ropes.

Bear is still in hibernation, we think.  He spends a lot of time sleeping.  While we're gone and at night, Bear sleeps in his kennel.  He does surprisingly well in the kennel.  The first couple days, he cried for a bit, but now he'll go in without a peep.  Thank goodness we have an extra large crate!

We think Bear didn't have any boundaries, and that's what got him into trouble.  By giving him direction, he is starting to behave a lot better.  We'll pet him only when he sits.  We feed him in the kennel.  There's no such thing as a free ride for Bear.  We're also walking him and feeding him less to get his weight down.

Bear will make a great companion soon, with a little work and some play, he will be a loving golden!
