Mr. Bear has been with me since Saturday evening and he is a sweetie! We visited the vet on Monday morning as he has several medical issues including a neck incision from a nasty wound, ear abcess and very bad ear infections in both ears. The vet thinks he's probably had the ear infections for years, they're so impacted and gunky. His blood tests came back with good results. We're awaiting the lab work from cultures of his ear abcess and neck incision. He's currently on antibiotics and ear drops & needs a vet re-check in a couple of weeks.

Considering his ordeal of being found under a porch with a terrible neck wound, surgery, transportation from Missouri and all, he's doing exceptionally well. Unfortunately, he currently looks like a little goat - a cute little goat - with his shaved neck and ears that stick out on the sides of his head. Adorable.

I can't continue to foster him as he is so feisty and stubborn that he is giving my 15yo cat a hard time. This is not a good thing. He can't climb many stairs - he struggles with the four steps to get into the house. He's currently small enough that I can try to help him up the stairs - he weighs about 35lbs. Also, he should be somewhat confined as he isn't housebroken. He must have been an outdoor dog in his previous life. His red coat is lush and covers up his skinny frame which we are trying to fatten up. Bear needs a place to hang his hat while he recuperates.

Little Bear guy was so happy to learn that he has Sponsors! I told him there are folks out there who know his story, know he is a strong little dog with lots of spirit and who are generous and willing to help him along. Bear says "Thank You" to Curtis and Elizabeth G.

Bear has also learned that one of his sponsors is an Angel Dog who has a crush on him and is waiting at the Bridge to see him when it's time. Bear says he's not in a big hurry to cross over but knows that when he does, a special angel will be there to greet him and show him the ropes. Bear says "Thank You!" to sweet Miss Angel Lizzieboo.

Mr. Bear guy continues to get stronger and stronger. His one good ear still has a yeast ear infection and we're treating that with ear flushings and drops hoping it will get better. Since it seems as if he's had ear infections for a long time, the infection is probably pretty entrenched but we're working on it. Since he has only one working ear now, we want to keep that ear as healthy as possible. He's very patient as he undergoes treatment. He's an easy guy and everybody who sees him loves him.

Here are recent photos showing Bear with fellow playmates. The hair on his neck is growing in nicely - just enough to keep his neck warm in the cold.

Bear went to the vet yesterday to have his pain patch removed. While there the vet decided to remove his bandage and leave it off. He looks GReat! No need for a new bandage. He just needs to wear his hat for another week.

Bear is doing great and is such a loyal boy. It's tough to get a photo of him because he wants to always walk to you to be petted and scratched. And of course roll over and get his tummy rubs.

Bear will be going back to his foster on Sunday. It's been a delight to have him here this week. He has been sooooo easy to care for and is such a great boy. He has many years of love and companionship to give. Could you be the family that he gives that love and companionship too?

Please email placementatragom [dot] org if you want to meet this sweet gentleman for yourself and maybe give him his very own forever family.

Thank you for reading about him....

My wife picked up Bear from the vet this evening. He is in good spirits and doing well. He has a red bandage around his head and neck that is snug so he is snoring everytime he sleeps. He had a couple teeth pulled and his teeth cleaned while he was under. Right now he has a pain medication patch on to gradually release a strong dose of pain killers. He appears to be in good comfort.

Friday he gets his patch off and then Monday he will get his bandage off. He has to wear the sweet head piece until then. He's getting used to it.

Thru all of this, Bear is in good spirits and still such a sweet boy. I have a new photo of him already continuing his quest at the record for tummy rubs. He is waiting for me to give him some good scratches and snore away...

Thanks for your thoughts for Bear and his surgery. Soon he will be bandage free and trotting around like the young pup he is....

Bear is still doing great here.

What a great boy. I think he is smitten over our new foster Brandi 08-464. She just arrived here an hour ago. She's very cute. She's playing hard to get though.... Bear will just keep following her around.

Here are some new photos of Mr. Bear. If you missed the update on him from yesterday, please read it. It's above.

Thank you for following Bear's story....

Email placementatragom [dot] org if you'd like to give him the best gift of all....a forever home of his own with overflowing love....

Little Bear guy is still with me. My cat seems to have adjusted and Bear is not chasing him around anymore. The incision on his neck healed nicely and Bear is putting on weight, going up and down the stairs and out for walks. He's a sweet little guy with a smile when he sees you. Unfortunately, the biopsy results of the nasty sore on his ear came back positive for squamous cell cancer & we're now waiting to see the surgeon to determine if there is anything to be done about it. In the meantime, Bear is living the good life.
