This little girl has been with us for a week now.  Her name is India but she doesn't respond to it.  She was rescued from a breeder in South Dakota along with Sahara and Basil.  We call her little puppy because she seems so small next to our 3 resident goldens.  She is a golden/cocker mix and weighs about 40 pounds.  She is 4.5 years old (born 1-15-07).  She is now up to date on all her immunizations, heartworm negative, microchipped, and spayed.  Her breeding days are over and she can start living the golden life!

She has the sweetest face ever!  She is extremely shy and runs from everyone who tries to get near her.  Except me - she is never far from my side!  She is just starting to warm up to my husband.  Any noise causes her to jump and run away.  But she always comes back!  She gets along great with our resident goldens and noses right in when the treats are given out.  She eats well and doesn't guard her food.  She has barked at the neighbors a few times.  She loves to go for walks and pulls hard on the leash.  I started using the gentle leader yesterday which has really helped. She heard my husband getting out the leashes today and she ran to where he was - which is a first.  She has had no accidents in the house and we have given her free roam.  She has not been around cats or kids.  I'm guessing she would run from kids.  She loves to explore our large, fenced yard.

She has made great strides in the past week.  I've actually seen her wag her tail a few times!  And she picked up a tennis ball in her mouth - but then didn't seem to know what to do with it!  She will need a family who is willing to be very patient with her.  A quiet home would be best with at least one other dog to show her what it's like to be a companion animal and not just a breeding dog.  She is so sweet and we're so happy for her that she has been given another chance at life.

Bella (India), continues to be a beautiful little girl - who needs a haircut!  She looked more like a golden when she came in September - now she looks more like a cocker.  We're trying to find someone who does individual grooming rather than take her to a big place with lots of dogs.  One groomer that I talked with suggested that we try to do it ourselves and provided information on proper equipment.

Bella has made great progress and has now accepted my husband (although she still won't go outside for him).   She now runs up to my husband wagging her tail which makes him very happy.  But she is by my side always, no matter where I am.  She even carries around my slipper everywhere.  She would not do well with new people and lots of commotion.

We continue to use a gentle leader as she still pulls hard when walking on a leash.  She does fine when we're not home.  She gets along good with our dogs and is even starting to play with them a little.  She loves to run around in our back yard - especially if there is a squirrel to chase.  She's a little sweetie who has come a long way in the past 3 months.
