Last fall, “Zelda” and Zeek were found abandoned in MO and rescued by a local group, ”Soft Hearts for Sad Eyes”. The two dogs found their way safely to Minnesota through RAGOM, and both dogs were fostered by Karen H, a RAGOM volunteer. I decided last Christmas Season that there was no better gift I could give than the gift of a new home to dog who needed one, and I was drawn to Zelda on the website. When I went to meet her at Karen’s, I fell hard for her beautiful eyes, white coat, and brown freckles across her nose. It wasn’t long before she moved to her forever home, living with me and her stepsister, Tessa, a rambucuous, playful golden retriever that had previously been part of the breeding program at Helping Paws. It took them awhile to figure out their relationship, but now often are romping through the house playing together. Bella (her new name) has blossomed. Her white coat has grown in, she has gained some weight, learned how to retrieve, can’t give enough kisses, and is no longer the hesitant, shy, reticent dog I met last year. We have taken obedience class together, and still working on leash walking and not jumping up. How glad I am that she found her way to Hopkins and my life. Who rescued who? And the surprise bonus? Karen and I hit it off right away too and have become very close friends. A double success story.
