Ben 09-185

Profile

Meet Benjamin (aka Big Ben)!  He is definitely a big dog weighing in at 126 lbs.!  He is just a sweet, cuddly teddy bear.  Ben arrived with a torn ACL in his left rear leg.  He was surrendered to RAGOM because of this injury.  Ben will be having surgery in about two weeks.  Since he is overweight, he is on a strict diet in order to lose at least 10 lbs. before the surgery.  His ideal weight is 95-100 lbs.  Ben made a trip to the vet this week and everything checked out beautifully (besides the weight issue).  He has a gorgeous coat, handsome face, and the most wonderful personality.

Ben gets along great with my two resident dogs.  They love to play tug of war with toys, stuffed animals, and even socks!  Ben has settled in very easily at our home.  He is house trained, has free roam of the house while we are away (up to 7 hours a day), and is very well mannered.  Ben knows basic commands such as sit, lay down, and shake.  He loves to be near people and he stays right by my side in the yard without a leash.  This is one of the most easy going, friendly dogs I have ever met.  Ben does not resource guard with toys, food or treats.  He is kid-tested and approved:  My 2 and 3 year old nieces crawled all over him and he just sat patiently and gave the occasional kiss on the face.   :)
Ben is going to require some TLC after his ACL surgery, he needs about 2 months to fully recover.  He must be kept as inactive as possible right away, this includes no long walks, no stairs and some physical therapy to get his leg back to normal.  If you would like more info. on this wonderful boy please contact placement!

Ben is doing great at our home!  He is a joy to have around, just the most easy going dog I have seen.  Ben is still working on losing some weight so he can have his torn ACL repaired.  He has been on a diet and he is getting as much exercise as his leg will allow.  As soon as the surgery/recovery is done, he will be available for adoption.  Ben is a mellow and happy boy.  Ben has met other dogs and gets along with them, as well as my two dogs.  I had Ben groomed last week and he has the most amazing coat.  It is so thick and soft!  Everyone who meets him comments on how fluffy he is!

Ben does like to counter surf if food is left out.  We are working on that...I think he is bored with his doggy diet food!  Who really likes diets anyway?  We have to be careful to put all food away.  Last week, Ben got a hold of some banana bread on the counter and it was gone in 30 seconds!  Other than that, Benjamin is such a wonderful dog, I can't believe how great he is doing!
