Ben 09-211

Profile

Ben is a ~ 4 year old golden mix who was found wandering around Beresford, SD with a neck wound. He had been shot with a paint gun, but fortunately the wound was not too deep and is heeling nicely. Ben is neutered, up-to-date on his vaccinations and heartworm negative. He is a medium sized dog (~ 62 lbs) and is completely housetrained. We do not know if Ben is crate trained, because he has always had free roam of our home.

Ben has been the easiest foster we've ever had. As soon as he walked in the door, it seemed like he'd lived here all his life. And Ben has hit what I call the dog trifecta...good with other dogs, cats and kids! He is super friendly, fubsy and affectionate.... a great dog for a family with young children.

Ben went to his forever home today! As we all know, saying goodbye to our fosters is bittersweet. But as Ben looked back at me through the car window, I felt that he wasn't really leaving....our extended family just got bigger! I know that Kate, Matt and Henry already love Ben as much as we do and will give him the best life a dog could ever hope for. Live well Ben.

Ben continues to be an absolute joy to foster. Now that he's been with us a couple of weeks, we've learned a bit more about him. He doesn't bark....at all...not even when the other dogs are barking like crazy at the front door. Ben doesn't resource guard, he respects baby gates, loves riding in the car and walking with the rest of the pack. He continues to be a super dog for young children. Yesterday some of the neighborhood kids (~ 5 years old) were playing in the kiddie pool. Ben hopped right in with them, so the kids started dumping pails of water on him. He loved it!  Ben does have a couple of harmless, yet peculiar habits. He loves chairs...any chairs...including lawn chairs!  I've never seen a dog squish himself or herself into a lawn chair before!  The other interesting behavior is what I call "counter surveillance". He stands up on his hind legs and just looks to see what's up there. He never, ever puts his paws on the counter...just looks.  My husband calls him the "bipedal dog".
I've been trying really hard to think of the worst thing to say about Ben and, to be honest, I really can't think of anything.  Ben is as close to perfect as a dog can be!
