Berit (Becky 10-206)

Profile

Welcome to RAGOM, Becky.  Tell us a little about yourself, please.

Let me see, I'm still a puppy cause I'm not even a year old yet.  And I lived with a bunch of dogs that traveled here last week.  My family is Remington, Aruba, Serena, Buckshot, Fabio, Chloe, Avery, Jackie and Lacy.  Fabio was here already and he sent for us.  He can't believe how special he is now and told us about RAGOM.  So we followed him to see what it's all about.  We were all very scared traveling so far.  I can only speak for myself, but holy cow, I really like it here so far.

When we got to the first house we got the matts clipped from our fur, got brushed and had a bath.  This is Kelly and me, leaving my hair all over the place.

I think I smell a whole lot better after that bath and look prettier, too.  What do you think?

Just when I was settling in with my family in the backyard, me and this lady went for a ride to another place.  I think it's called Heaven.  No wait.  It's the Garden of Eden.

See for yourself.

I wish I could live here forever but cuz I'm with RAGOM now, I'm here temporarily until I get adopted. Can you believe I was raised in a junky yard and now this. I will be waiting for you in the garden.

This is what I will need in my new home:

  • Physical fence (wood, chain, plastic)  Doesn't matter as long as I can see where my boundaries are
  • Another dog that will teach me stuff in my new world.
  • Kids 10+
  • Not sure about cats yet.

So, that's it for now.  I'll let you know about my visit to the Dr. next time.  See ya!

After experiencing digestive issues for the past month or so, Berit was diagnosed with bile duct cancer (very aggressive) which had spread to lymph nodes and her small intestine. The prognosis was poor and she wasn't eating well (not characteristic!), so we said goodbye yesterday at the vet's, in the company of a compassionate doctor and our favorite vet tech. Berit will be missed!

Our very shy rescue girl became a force of nature when secure in the comfort of her own home and yard. Berit loved exotic/international cuisines, barking at passers-by, wrestling with her late brother Alasdair (Marley, 10-104),
showing her new sister Skye (Zoe, 18-077) the ropes, giving directions to Craig and me regarding meals and excursions outside, carrying her toys around, looking out her back door for hours on end, chasing rabbits, and more. Berit was nosy and observant, smart, sensitive, funny, and beautiful.

We rejoice in her time on earth and in the memories she left us.

Peace,
Laurie, Craig, and Skye

Berit, recently 3, continues to make progress getting over her puppy mill past. She is quite bold with her brother or me beside her and is very clear about what she wants and when she wants it, earning herself the affectionate nickname of “Boss Cow.” Berit loves to watch out the front door and is very nosy. She constantly carries a bone or toy in her mouth and drops it abruptly if it’s time for a walk or a meal. Berit loves to be fussed over and is eager for most grooming activities, except paw trimming. She loves belly and ear scritches, and making a nest in a freshly-made bed. Berit loves her big brother, Allie, and listens for his bark when he’s outside alone and greets him when he comes in. She is a joy.

Becky 10-206, now Berit, came home with us in late September 2010 after a few months at her foster home. As she came from a puppy mill, we faced many issues: fear of people in general, especially men; fear of going out in the cold and dark of winter; and adaptation to her new surroundings. Clearly, Berit now feels at home in our home, thanks in particular to her big brother, Allie (fka Marley), also from RAGOM. She trusts me, so I get to see the real Berit – and she is a live wire! She’s also warming up to her dad, but is making him work for it. She loves sleeping on the bed and couch, wrestling with Allie, carrying toys and as many Nylabones in her mouth as possible, and raspberry jam. She is a beautiful addition to our home.

The news is the best for our sweet Becky.   She has found her forever home.   Her new adoptive parents have given her a new home and a new name. Becky is now known as Berit!

She also has a new fur-brother to continue to show this shy girl what it means to be a happy Golden. Allie is a former RAGOM dog. Thank you to Allie and Becky/Berit's parents for adopting these beautiful rescue pups.

Best wishes to this wonderful family.
