Bert 06-461

Profile

11/5/06: Sweet little Bert is finally here. He is from a farm in Missouri where he was born into a pack of dogs that were left on their own. Many volunteers helped to bring Bert and many of his pack into rescue so they could have a chance at a good life. I believe he is around nine months old, but the dogs from his group seem to be petite so he will likely be a smaller Golden. Right now he is unsure of all that has happened to him, so we are taking things slowly. Bert has two white front paws and some white on his chest. When you catch him looking at you, he has the most gorgeous eyes that melt your heart. With some love and patience Bert is going to make some family a great friend and companion. More to come as he settles in.

I received these emails from Bert's adopting family. He was one of the MO dogs that came from the feral pack. I thought some might be interested in how he is doing.

Hi, I finally got around to getting some pictures of Mr. Bert. I'm attaching them to this e-mail, I hope you can open them. I tried to capture his eyes, but I still think they are more beautiful in real life. Everyone that meets Bert comments on how beautiful his eyes are. He's doing just fine. Fourth of July was interesting. The firecrackers, etc. started in our neighborhood around 4:00 and didn't end til almost midnight. Needless to say, Bert and Abby both were in the house the whole time. Bert's actually ok with most everything as long as he's in the house. Abby had to go down to her hiding place in our lower level (where she goes during thunderstorms). We're still walking 3 miles every morning so Bert's keeping in shape. He still doesn't care much to be outside, prefers to be in the house. You'll see in the picture that he's sitting by the front door, waiting to be let in. That's usually where you can find him if he's outside. He does venture out in the yard some, but never for very long. That's ok with us though, we love having him and if he feels more safe in the house, we're fine with that.

Hi, Bert is still pretty shy when people come to the house, but it's actually kind of refreshing because Abby gets so excited to see people and can be a little bothersome, especially around people that aren't crazy about dogs (hard to imagine people like that exist, but they do!!). He's much, much better than he was to begin with though. My husband and I were just talking last night about what a great dog he's turned out to be. He's such a little sweetheart, we just love him, and I'm so glad we made the trip to your house to get him.

I wish I could get a good picture of those eyes, he has really pretty eyes. They are soft brown with what looks like black eye liner around them. Bert is really coming around, he has been neutered and is finally done with his cold. My grandpuppy (RAGOM puppy my daughter's family adopted) was here for a couple of days and he and Bert played and played. It took both Bert and our Mac to wear out the puppy but they did their best. He is getting very comfortable with me but it takes him a little time to warm up to strangers. I figured out why he doesn't want to stay outside much, he gets startled by noises, guess it was pretty quiet where he grew up. He is getting braver all the time. Bert would do best with a fenced in yard and probably no young kids as he isn't sure of fast movements and loud noises.

Another plus would be someonw who has another well adjusted dog so Bert can continue to learn what it is like to be a good dog. Mostly he is looking for a family that will take the time to show him what it is like to be loved. When he sees me in the morning or after I have come home he does the "wiggle-butt" dance. His tail wags so hard that his butt swings from side to side. If you have some extra love and a little patience you could be just what Bert is looking for. Please contact placement if Bert seems like the dog for you. :-)
