Betsy is a beautiful PB female who came to our home last Sunday, on 1-23-11. The surrendering owner thinks she is about 3 years old. She was very scared when we picked her up and had to be carried to the car. She has not been socialized nor has she ever had a leash on. She’s had 3 litters of puppies in her 3 years.
Betsy is making great progress as she went for a walk today on a leash with my husband and our resident dog, Toby. She walked very gently but cautious and still scared to sounds or cars going by. She didn’t bark at other dogs, in fact, we have not heard her bark since we got her.
We went to the vet yesterday and she weighed in at 69lbs., is heartworm negative, has small cataracts that the vet thinks she was born with. It doesn’t seem to affect her vision. She has a minor yeast infection in her ears which she is getting drops for. She is scheduled to be spayed on Feb. 15. She had a nice warm bath when we brought her home, which she wasn’t too crazy about. She was like a statue and would shake at the sight of people. Her favorite place to hide is behind the couch.
I’m happy to say that now, 5 days since we got her, she will come to us when called, but is still cautious near us. She loves pets and hugs but just needs to be approached slowly right now and is learning to trust us humans. She didn’t eat or drink for the first two days we got her, but now eagerly waits for her food and eats next to our resident male dog. She likes to follow him around and he’s her new buddy. She’s such a scared little girl, but today she actually played with me and Toby and her tail was wagging, which was a wonderful sight! My son in law and 2 year old grandson were here today and she just hid from them. She is still quite frightened of any strangers. It’s not known how she is with cats.
More to come as we get to know this wonderful girl and show her the golden life she so deserves.
Her fosters,
Jill and Keith
