Big Gus (Bigger 08-097)

Profile

Introducing the big boy Gus. Gus and his brother came to RAGOM from a farmer who had a litter of 12 golden retriever puppies but couldn't find homes for the last two. Both boys are shall we say, large boned. :-) hence their first names were Big and Bigger. This guy is still just a youngin and has no idea just how big he is. He was born on 3-21-07 so he is not quite a year but had to spend his young life outside. Right now he is taking in all the new experiences that come with living inside and sharing the house with humans and 3 other dogs. He respects the pack very well and loves playing with our two males. He met our grandsons (2 & 1 years) and took them in stride. Gus needs to learn some basic manners but is eager to please. So far no accidents in the house. More in a couple of days after he gets settled in.

It’s been 371 days since we adopted Gus and what a year it has been!  We have had such a wonderful experience with RAGOM and are always excited to tell people about our rescue story.  Gus is truly a gentle giant.  When we first met Gus he came trotting over to us, laid down in my lap, and then fell asleep.  We knew right away he was the dog for us. The first night we brought him home he cuddled up on his new bed and slept so soundly.

Within a few weeks he graduated to our bed.

We love the outdoors and Gus seems to really like our wilderness adventures.  He loves when we take him back to our farm in Wisconsin.  This picture captures a true "Gus moment" of unbridled enthusiasm.

Gus is such an important part of our family he even got to "tell" Aaron that we were expecting our first baby.  I made a shirt for Gus that said, "I'm the big brother" and he wore it around the house until Aaron finally realized what it meant.

A huge thank you to RAGOM for giving us the best dog in the world!

Mighty Gus has now been with us for 4 days and he is such a sweetheart. While at the vet before he arrived here, he had all his shots and was neutered. He is heartworm negative, and has his microchip.  Nothing left but to find this big boy a home to call his own. He is still a puppy and has that typical puppy energy when he plays and in typical retiever fashion he likes to carry things around (in particular shoes). He is learning to like his crate, he now walks in with just a little coaxing. Gus has a check up at the local vet tomorrow so we will try to get a weight on him. He has only been here a short time but I can see he has great potential. Here are some of his attributes......

enjoys playing with other dogs
is good with children
has a very soft mouth (gentle bite)
walks without pulling on leash
no accidents in the house
loves snuggling
eager to please
ok so if you're not looking for a gentle giant then Gus might not be for you.
