Here is the initial bio info for these two wild and crazy guys. Since they are together and should stay together I figured I can do one update for both of them and it can be posted twice! Blaze is on the left, Shiner on the right. These are phone photos, I need new batteries for my camera and keep forgetting to buy some. I will send “good photos” soon.

 

 

Blaze and Shiner came in together on Saturday. They are beautiful boys, in excellent health. Their ears look good, coats good, teeth good, weights are good…

They both need a bath, but they are not desperately dirty, just the standard golden, “it’s been too long since my last bath” smell and feel.

They were understandably, quite restless after their long transport on Saturday so I took them over to my version of a dog park, our outdoor, off season skating rink. They ran and played and then settled down nicely when we returned home. During the night, I got up once to let them both out and they did their business and came right back in. It wasn’t surprising, that they had to go out. They were SO THIRSTY by the time they got to my house that I bet they each drank a couple of quarts of water.

On Sunday, I hooked them up to long leads and took them out to a large field near my house with my dog so they could really run, they were very good, listened well, and stayed close. After about 30 minutes of walking and running they were ready to really settle down in the house. They have clearly had obedience training, they are just exuberant, and I think haven’t been reminded lately to use their manners. With gently reminders they do quite well. They do need leash work, I have not had the opportunity to get them on the gentle leaders yet, but hope to start working with them this week.

They definitely like to be together, but they also include my little Cocker and get along with her just fine. Blaze is a little shorter, a little more stocky and has the long haired coat. He seems to be a little more independent and willful than Shiner, and needs a gentle reminder to sit for attention, not jump. Blaze is the alpha between those two, but he bows down to the queen of the house, even though she is a third their size. He is smart enough to know that we females are always the boss! J

Shiner is very tall, gangly and has a short haired coat. He has a very mild temperament and likes to stick a little closer when out and about. It seems he is the one that gets a little stressed when he doesn’t know where Blaze is, just a little bit of whining and once he knows where Blaze is he is fine.

Last Monday was the first day of a “normal” schedule for them, out in the morning, noon and after work. When I came home at noon they all wanted treats, so I introduced them to bananas, my resident's favorite treat. Blaze loved them, Shiner wasn’t so sure but once he figured out that the other two were chomping them, he joined right in. They sat calmly for their treats and both took them very gently!

These are two wonderful boys. They will need a home where they can get a lot of exercise, either by fenced in yard, walking, running, dog park etc. I really hope they can stay together because they love each other so much.

From Blaze's forever family...

We drove up to Deer River, MN two weeks ago to meet Blaze. We have been so excited ever since to have him as a part of our family! I know we are a little biased but, we feel like he is “The Best Dog!!”

He loves to go on runs or walks. He really enjoys play dates with other dogs in the neighborhood. He has fun with our two kids, Gavin (9) and Ellie (7) as well as all of their friends. He has a playful yet mellow demeanor and just loves to have his belly rubbed! We are all excited to celebrate his fourth birthday with him on Friday and just so grateful that he is adjusting so well.

Many thanks to Blaze’s foster families who loved him up so well. We appreciate the good care that you provided him and allowing him to become a part of our family.

Well time for a update on these two wonderful boys! We had a vet visit and got the microchips done and what shots they needed so they are up to date and ready to go! Blaze weighs 78 lbs. and Shiner 84.7 lbs. They were very good boys for the vet and everyone there loved them.

I should go back to the beginning and tell you other than them being in a kill shelter I’m not sure what their life was before that, but RAGOM rescued them just in time or these two would have been put down that very day. What a waste of two great dogs. They have for sure been somewhere where they were loved, they have manners and listen pretty well. They have had no accidents in the house at all and have free roam while we are gone. I have been taping them the last few days while they are home alone without the other so I can see what they do and how they act. Blaze really could care less that Shiner is not around and Shiner whines a little bit but then stops when Blaze is not around so it looks like they will be fine apart. So if you are interested in one or the other by themselves let your placement advisor know!!

Before they came and lived with me they were at a temp foster's and she had a dog and they both got along fine with her. A fence is not required but a long lead until they get used to their surroundings would be just fine. They still need some work walking on a leash. They both are very mellow dogs (other than their wrestle time) inside and for Shiner being as young as he is (just turned 2 a couple days ago) that is pretty good, he is a long, tall , lean boy who would make a good running partner for someone! Blaze and Shiner made it to our home today! They have been staying with temp foster mom for 2 weeks and they would like to thank Ann for taking good care of them and giving them a place to lay their heads for a couple weeks until I could take them. Ann had her hands full with these boys as Shiner came down with Kennel cough that turned into Pneumonia he is on meds for this and being treated and then a couple days later Blaze caught the Kennel cough, so a lot of running back and forth with the pups to get them on the mend!! They are both doing much better and will soon be good as new!
I will be taking them to the vet on Wednesday to get chipped and make sure they are doing ok while being on meds! I will let you know how it goes!
They did super riding home in the car. As for now we will say they need to stay together but after a few days go by I will see how it goes being separated from each other! I think Blaze is going to do fine but Shiner may just need a home with another dog! But if anyone out there is interested in 2 boys that like to hang out together contact your placement advisor.
