Blitzen 04-409

Profile

Blitzen is one of four puppies that were rescued from a Minnesota puppy mill. They were rejected by the puppy mill's broker - for reasons such as being too small or having only three toes on one foot :( A broker is the person who buys the mill puppies and in turn sells them to pet stores, usually when they're only 5 or 6 weeks old.

Blitzen is becoming more active. His appetite has really increased, although we are keeping his food pretty bland because of the worms he is being treated for. He is doing great on leash but still insists on helping by carrying it around in his mouth. I have started taking him on walks which he really enjoys, until other dogs start barking at him. He gets scared and I've had to carry him till we are far enough away. He really doesn't like loud noises either. He will crouch to the floor/ground and try to get away. He does recover though pretty quickly.

He still tries to engage my dogs into playing with him. My youngest dog lets him know straight forward that she isn't interested and he understands her, but the signal is not too clear coming from my Yorkie and Blitzen thinks it means play with me. Blitzen also continues to entertain himself with doggie toys and chases around the center island in the kitchen. He will try to grab inappropriate items but is responding to "no" and lets go without much of a struggle. He is also learning the meaning of "off".

We are getting to sleep in a little longer these days. Since he is keeping his kennel clean at night, I've added a more comfortable doggie bed which he enjoys. He also will snuggle with my Yorkie on his bed in the kitchen. You can really get a feel for his size (22.2 lbs.) by looking at the picture of him next to my Yorkie (13lbs. - he's bigger and a little fat). I had him micro-chipped the other day and the vet tech couldn't believe he was a 5 month old; she really thought he was about 3 months.

Blitzen loves to cuddle and be held. He still wants Santa to bring him a forever family for Christmas. If that forever family is you, please email Placement/Santa to let them know.
