Blue 08-593

Profile

Hello all,

A big welcome for Blue 08-593. He has arrived safe and sound at his new foster home in sunny Northern Wisconsin, ( -23F this am BRRRRRRRRR) and is now well on his way to the good life. he was driven through a two day blizzard by some very wonderful RAGOM volunteers from Southern Iowa to the frozen tundra. Blue sends a heartfelt lick to all who helped him along the way.

Blue is a 2 year old intact male Golden/Husky mix. He has one brown and one blue eye, hence the name Blue. What a riveting look that blue eye has. As you can tell by his photo he looks true Golden. He is house trained, likes to lay down when he eats, and loves to sit and look out the window at the deer feeding at the bird feeder. At first he growled and barked at them, but now just sits and watches. I don't know how he is with cats. His papers show that he can jump a five foot fence, but so far he has not exhibited that talent here.

He has the sweetest disposition and is one mellow guy. He gets along fine with the resident dogs. There was some posturing from the resident male and Blue took it all in stride. Things are now settled and they both are playing on the living room floor as I write this. He has had some tough sledding in his young two years. He was abandoned and left to fend for himself. His owners moved and just left him behind. He spent the past 3 months in a shelter. He carries many scars on his head, nose, and ears. There is also one on his left hind leg. His temperament is so soft, mild, and submissive to all dogs and humans alike. He loves everyone. To maintain that attitude and personality after all his trials and tribulations is just a wonder. It only goes to show what a loving boy he is. He seems to like women more than men at first meeting, but warms to both after a short period. That only tells me one thing. He had some rough handling from a male human and was treated better by female. He follows my wife around like a shadow.

He was vetted today. He was brought up to date on everything. All his tests were negative except his stool showed tape worms and that is being taken care of as I write this. He is scheduled for neutering and micro-chipping on the 8th of January. He will be ready for that new forever home shortly after that.

Blue is keeping a "eye" out for that special new home where he will be loved and cared for. For now he is going to spend Christmas and New Years in a nice warm place and this evening is going to watch the Packers whoop the Bears! More to follow.

Blue is getting along fine in his new surroundings. He has adjusted very well to the routine around here. He is such a sweet and pleasant guy. He is a healthy and very well behaved fur butt. He went in yesterday and got his Lyme's booster shot and had his neuter stitches removed. For a special treat he also had a visit to the spa where he was combed, bathed, nails trimmed, and trimmed up a little. Did he love this or what!!! All of the girls at groomers and vet clinic fell in love with him. He is such a good natured boy. So it is no wonder they all went ga-ga over him. Not to mention how handsome he is.

He has been enjoying his daily walks and all the new stuffed toys he has. He likes to lounge on top of the eight foot snow bank by the driveway and over look his new domain. He seems to love being outside no matter what the temperature. He will sit for long periods watching the birds and squirrels at the feeders. He also likes to eat the corn we put out for the deer and turkeys (go figure... he must think he is one of them or maybe he thinks he is still on the farm in Iowa). At any rate he is enjoying his stay here while waiting for that perfect forever home. I am very surprised he has been here as long as he has. He is such a great dog I didn't think he would last very long.

The new photo is my guy and his new buddy Blue waiting for the evening meal. They have both become very chummy and seem to really enjoy one another. Even my guy can see how special this guy is. He is not always so receptive of male foster brothers. I think Blue would be a good match for a family with children and I don't think age would make any difference as he loves everyone and is very gentle. I was told when he came in that he would scale a fence, but that has not happened here. I keep him tired with daily walks and play sessions. I work under the premise that a tired dog is a well behaved dog. More later...............

A short update on "Blue" and few new photos. Wow what a guy!!!!! Blue has fit in here like no other foster I have ever had, and I have had some good ones. If this guy isn't the most good natured and lovable so far, I don't know who is. He and my resident male have become bosom buddies. My guy is an alpha and takes charge like no other. He is possessive of his stuffed toys and allows no dog to touch them, and I mean none. Well since Blue's arrival that has changed. He lets Blue play all day with them and even joins in. So I would say Blue gets along quite well with other dogs. I caught them both sleeping on my bed this a.m. Also the first time my guy has allowed a foster that privilege. My ten year old female English Springer also treats him like a long lost brother. It just amazes me how dogs can sense the good in one another.

Blue is so good natured and very outgoing. He likes everyone! Kids, adults, and women. Especially women. He is shy at first and very submissive with both dogs and people. He has no anxieties, aggressions, is house trained, and there is no resource guarding. He adjusted very well here. There was some marking the first two days, but that has since stopped after a few sharp No's and outside. He is a smart guy and has now learned to sit, come, and walk like a gentleman on his leash. I take him out on our lake, and can this guy motivate. He loves to run!! (just a thought for all you joggers out there).

When Blue first arrived here two weeks ago he was a very scared and leary boy. He was afraid to come through the house door and would not jump in the back of my SUV. Almost like a PM dog. Either he was an outside dog or just afraid of confined spaces. Well for what reason we don't know, but now all I have to do is open the tail gate and he is leaps in the back like a trooper. Most of the time he now comes from the outside into the house with no hesitation. Although there are times when he still hesitates. We are working on that and will get it solved very soon. I think he is finding that when he comes in he gets a big hug and he so does love hugs. He still gets car sick if he has eaten a few hours before the ride. Not all of the time, just once in a while. So if he is going to the vet or what ever I don't feed him and everything goes well. We also will be taking short rides to try and work this out. He also has learned that walks are fun. He almost turns inside out when it is walk time. He also will bring back a toy if you throw it for him. He will sit and give it to you (well most of the time)

Blue is a very special boy who needs a loving environment with someone who is home a lot. At this point in his young life it would be great if someone was with him more than they are away. It isn't that he can't be trusted to be alone as he has done the eight hour test here and passed with flying colors. He has free run of the house and has not been crated. We will get into crate training after he is neutered on the 8th. It's just that he has spent so much of his life alone and in shelters and lord knows what. What he needs now is companionship and has to learn that people can be trusted. He gets that here 24/7. He met some children at the Vet clinic and he seemed to thoroughly enjoy that. There were licks and pets all around.

After he gets neutered on the 8th he will be ready for that forever home where there is lots of love, and he will return it tenfold. This is one great guy!!
