Bo 06-528

Profile

12/2/06: Bo has arrived! Bo is a taller Golden and in good health. From what I can tell, he is very fit. He is a purebred one-year-old male and has been neutered.

Bo met the resident dog Cinder and everything was fine. They haven't really played yet, but it's just been one night. I was told that Bo was fine around cats, but we don't have a cat so I can't check on that for certain. Bo is housetrained but his previous owner had him on a pretty schedule for when he was going out and we have tried to stick with the same schedule that he was used to. He is also crate-trained. He had some anxiety last night with his crate but today he is just fine in there. It was a brand new place and he is arriving just as we are moving to a new house, so he picked up on some of the stress, I'm sure.

Bo is a very sweet dog. He has a lot of energy and needs some obedience training. Bo is very attentive and I think would pick up on obedience very quickly. He does know "sit." We are teaching him "off" because if he gets too excited he will rear up on people. He's picking it up well. Bo is used to being in a fenced-in yard, but here he is on a tie out and he is fine with it. Bo does seek out attention. He will bark outside if you leave him alone and he wants to be with you. He's just over one year of age and has a lot of the retriever "need" to have something in his mouth. If he gets very excited he will put his mouth on your hand - he has a VERY soft mouth and if you say "Nope!" he remembers himself right away and wags his tail apologetically.

At one year, Bo is still in that puppy stage. He was surrendered because there was too much travel for work and Bo wasn't getting enough attention. He is energetic and will need a family committed to keeping him active mentally and physically. He is used to walking daily in addition to playtime in the backyard. Bo will chew things if he is bored, so it would be wise to be familiar with puppy-proofing and developing a keen eagle eye to make sure he is not doing something he should not. He was introduced to the Gentle Leader last night and he was OK with it after hating it for about 15 minutes.

He has a vet appointment for Monday and is looking for a new home! I made a promise to his dad that Bo will go to a wonderful family. If you want to meet this GReat guy, please email placementatragom [dot] org.

From Bo's forever family...

Our big boy Bo is fabulous! We love him so much and can't remember life without him.

Here are his favorite activities:

  • He loves to go boating in the summer - he has discovered minnows and sunfish at the lake, and is bound and determined to catch one. He will 'fish' for HOURS.
  • He loves to go pheasant hunting with Jay in the fall.
  • He loves to snowshoe in the winter.
  • Runs are great anytime - we probably average 15 miles a week - he is addicted.
  • Squirrel chasing is good anytime.

His neighbor is a Golden-doodle - he loves to visit/play. Bo often steals his toys and brings them home.

His cousins are Shitzu's - so frequent visits with the family are always interesting and fun - he is definitely the leader of the pack.

We can't thank RAGOM enough for bringing us and Bo together. He is a blessing and has brought us tremendous Joy!

I've attached some pics of his adventures over the past 26 months. He is loved very much and is a little spoiled :-)

Enjoy!

Here are some updated pictures of Bo from today where he is actually smiling for us. Isn't he a looker? So handsome!

Bo has his vet appointment tomorrow to make sure he's all healthy and ready to go home! He is much better on a Gentle Leader and only protests for a little while until he realizes that Gentle Leader = walk or car ride.

Currently both he and Cinder are sound snoring in a furry heap next to me after playing hard outside for almost two hours.

Bo is officially out of his shell! He and Cinder played for an hour straight tonight and have become best friends. I think Cinder believes that he is our first foster, Jasper 06-454, because he plays just like Jasper boy did. So of course, wrestlemania has arrived again at our house. We are in the process of moving to a new house, and after one shaky night, Bo is comfortable with all the changes and people coming in and out. This is a dog who can really go with the flow. Today large furniture was being moving out and new people were going in and out of the house. Bo was crated for the most part so he didn't try to introduce himself while people were carrying heavy things, but he got lovin' when there was some downtime. Bo was very good in the crate and didn't make a fuss in there.

Bo could go to a home with or without another dog. He would be a good dog at a dog park--he is very social.

Bo should go to a family with some dog experience. He will need someone willing to work with his puppy nature and someone understanding that he will need some boundaries and training. I don't think he would be a good match for a family with little kids, because his tail is quite the weapon .(You know those movies with the dinosaurs that knock down stuff... like trees and mountains and in some Japanese movies, buildings? Well, instead of a reptile, picture a big Golden dog with his tongue hanging out, prancing around and clearing out a small section of forest when he gets some petting.) Also, he's a big goofy Golden puppy and could knock someone over if they were his height.

I was finally able to get some good pics of him tonight, after a good play session with Cinder. It's a lot easier to get a photo when he's sitting still and doesn't have Cinder dive bombing him from all directions. If it looks like Bo is in a barren wasteland, it's because we're still at the townhouse and everything is out of the lower level. The dogs love it because it's a big play room for them now and they take full advantage of it. I'm sure the neighbors on the other side of the wall think we are knocking down walls or something. And don't be fooled by his sad face! I had to take away his tennis ball to get him to look at me. :) This guy would looooooove to fetch for you!

Bo is a big lovable sweetheart. He has some growing up to do, but with some training and guidance he will do just fine. He still has to grow into his height a little bit--he's gangly and goofy and just a happy go lucky guy. When Bo is running around, instead of something graceful, like a deer or gazelle, he's like a baby giraffe. It's funny to watch him chase Cinder around. Bo is a really great guy--playing one minute and snuggling into you the next.
