Bo 11-114

Profile

Bo 11-114 is one lucky dog!  He is now part of the RAGOM family!

Bo was born 9/2/09, is neutered, is now utd on vaccines, and micro chipped. He is 100% housebroken.  Bo loves his kennel, but can be trusted with free roam as well.  He loves to chew, but has yet to eat or chew anything other than his toys.  He does great with my 6 year old daughter and respects our cats.  Bo has been introduced to a small (female) dog and a large breed (female) puppy without any problems, although he did get a little over friendly with them until they put him in his place.  He is getting used to the gentle leader, and loves to go for walks.  We are working on basic obedience and manners, and he is doing really well.  He is definitely a velcro dog!  He rides very well in the car, and is just a joy to have around!  He is absolutely gorgeous and he is as soft as a puppy!  Bo enjoyed getting a bath, and he let me trim his nails.

X-rays showed that Bo did have surgery for hip dysplasia on his left hip, but he has not had surgery on his right hip.  We are waiting to hear back from RAGOM’s surgeon, as we are unsure if he needs surgery or not at this time.  Bo is about 25 pounds overweight (currently at 95 pounds), so in the meantime we are working on getting him to shed some pounds.  We have him on a strict diet and short walks each day.  The vet recommended several short walks instead of one or two long walks each day.  Bo does limp and his back end sways when he walks.  He has been on a pain/anti-inflammatory medication for the past week and it has made a big difference in how much he is able to do and how comfortable he is.

Bo is listed as unavailable.  We are waiting to hear from the RAGOM surgeon to see if he is a good candidate for surgery on his right hip or not.  If we do opt for surgery, we must get his weight down first.

More updates to come as we learn more about Bo!

Bo has lost his weight and we will see the doctor soon to learn more about his prognosis.  He continues to be a happy, playful, affectionate young boy that is loved by everyone!  It’s way too hot for the dogs to be outside today, so Bo is chillin’ indoors.

Bo loves the outdoors and is crazy about water! He loves the lake, shower, sprinklers, pool, hose, squirt gun….you name it, he loves it!.  Bo’s dreaded green bean diet and our multiple daily walks continue but we are having success and he is losing weight.  Yea!  He continues to be a dream foster puppy - playful, affectionate and eager to please.  Please keep visiting Bo so you can watch his weight loss progress and silly antics.  :-)

We visited the vet this week and Bo has lost 8 lbs!  Bo is exercising every day with several long walks, and controlled playing in the yard.  He doesn’t seem to be aware of his hips, because he paws and jumps when he gets really excited, so we are working on manners too.  Bo LOVES his toys, all the attention he can get and just being alive.  I don’t think I’ve ever fostered such a happy dog!  The handsome boy smiles all the time~

20 lbs to go and then we get to talk to the vet about his hips!

Bo has been with us for just over a week and has settled into our household nicely.  He is one happy, playful, affectionate and gorgeous boy!  Such a joy to see every day and he is a great playmate for our resident Mia as well as my two kids.  Bo is a perfect house guest and a very easy foster.  We walk every day to get his weight down, and he is on the dreaded green bean diet as well to help him trim down.  It’s not healthy for any dog to be overweight, but it is especially bad for a dog with sore hips, so it’s critical we get his weight down.  Other than being stiff when he gets up, you would never know Bo’s hips bother him.  He is ALWAYS happy and playful!  Here are a few photos of Bo and Mia playing together.

Bo here!  Things are great at my foster home!  I have lots of nice dog beds to sleep on, some really cool toys, and even a kid and 2 kitties to play with!  FM tells me I have been the perfect houseguest!  I haven’t had any accidents and I only chew on my toys.  I really love my nylabone, rope toys, and stuffed animal lizard (that had been destuffed by a previous foster).  I get a joint supplement, fish oil, and pain meds each day to help with my hips.  I’m also on a pretty strict diet, which means no treats!  FM just gives me extra love instead, which I’m happy with!  She calls me a chunky monkey, whatever that means.  She also calls me Bo-bee.  I get really excited and squint my eyes and wag my tail when she calls me that!

We had a 12 week old Bernese Mt. Dog puppy named Sadie come stay with us for a week.  She was a lot of fun!  I was very good with sharing my toys and I let her win most of the time when we wrestled.  She liked to bite my face and ears, but I didn’t mind.  FM told me I was such a good boy for putting up with her puppy playfulness!  I was pretty sore after playing, so I got my medicine in the morning and at night instead of just in the morning.

FM said that I have to lose some more weight before I can have my consultation with the vet who does orthopedic surgeries for RAGOM.  We have been doing lots of walks, usually 3 per day.  Sometimes we go out to Grandma’s house.  She has 5 acres that is completely fenced in, so we spend a lot of time walking off-leash there.  I never go far from FM and always come when she calls!

FM here:  Bo will still be listed as unavailable while we work on his weight loss and visit with the vets to see if surgery is an option for Bo.  If you’ve ever thought about sponsoring a RAGOM dog or donating to help defray the cost of a rescued dog’s care, now’s the time!
