9/19/06: Meet the Labor of Love Puppies!

Bogart, along with his 8 brothers and sisters came into RAGOM after their mother went missing. Bogart is approximately 4 weeks old and is one of the bigger puppies of the group. He has this adorable little face with what looks to be cowlicks around his nose area that makes him always look like he has been eating something he shouldn't have.

Bogart--or Boggie--as I call him is a sweet little guy that loves to cuddle with you.

Bogart attended a Meet and Greet this last Sunday and met some very nice people! He also got to see his sister Tia again, and they played played played until they wore each other out. He was very good and charmed everyone he met, volunteers and vistors alike.

Bogart has been doing great! He has found his voice and now tells us his opinion on pretty much everything. Bogie is getting a little more mouthy and will need lots of appropriate chew toys. He has a puppy Kong and LOVES it. Can't get enough. Bogie rides in the car just fine - if you have his blankie, he curls up on it and falls asleep. He appreciates any time for a nap.

Bogie has had only two accidents since we have had him, and both of them were because someone I am married to wasn't paying attention to him. He is now sleeping all night long and we all got over 9 hours of sleep last night! He woke us up to go potty but then snuggled right back into his blankets in his crate when he was done. I think now that it's colder outside he would rather get back to a warm bed.

We can already tell that Bogie has grown since we got him, and he's gained some weight too. He will get a puppy zoom every once in a while and goes tearing around. Bogie is a BIG FAN of playing. He will play with toys, you, or our dog Cinder. It will be good for him to have puppy classes to keep up his socialization, with both dogs and people. He has met new people, from kids to seniors, and other dogs as well (my parents' dogs, who are of course up to date on everything - we don't want Bogie catching something!).

Bogie's face is SO expressive! His fur is soft and the scruff on his face makes him just so cute. It seems like everyone and their cousin has a breed guess for him. We've heard everything from Italian Spinone to Wirehair Pointer to Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen. Whatever he is, he has a heart of gold and the sweetest disposition. He really is a great puppy. He has a little independent streak in him and likes to do his own thing, whether it's in line with what you would prefer or not. Bogie has a great nose and is very food motivated. He has "Sit" mastered, and we are leash-training him.

Bogart moved into his new foster home last night and has romped right in! We were a little nervous that he might make quite the fuss since it was his first night away from his littermate, Aris. No worries with this boy! He slept in his crate and didn't wake up until morning.

He met the resident dog Cinder and loves her. Bogie follows her around the house and she will gently redirect him if his gnawing on her tail gets to be a little TOO much. They play outside and he is learning good dog behavior from her.

Bogart slept through the night like a rock. He went for 7 hours last night without messing his crate and goes potty as soon as you bring him outside - there's no waiting around with this guy! Bogie was gated in the kitchen today while we were at work. I came home to let him out at noon and he had kept himself busy gnawing on some of the chew toys we had in there with him. I think I woke him up when I came home. He hadn't shredded any paper or chewed on any of the wood.

Bogie can keep himself entertained. If Cinder or another dog is ignoring him, he will play with leaves or a tennis ball or anything else that moves or catches his interest. He can definitely do his own thing just fine.

Bogie LOVES his food and gets excited when it's chow time. I think Cinder was surprised that he finished his food before she finished hers! He is a very sweet puppy and likes his cuddle time. Bogart's fur is soft and the photos don't do him justice - his face is so cute and you just want to snuggle with him all day (or, like me, don't want to go back to work!).

This little guy will just steal your heart and snuggle right into your family! Email placementatragom [dot] org and make sure to let them know you want to meet Mr. Fuzzy Face.

Bogart is a little mama’s boy, except when it comes to his sister, Aris 06-405! He has definitely decided to challenge her leadership these last couple of days, and has been such the instigator of rough play. Of course he will give her all he’s got, and then cry like a baby when she turns around and bites his ear. I guess they’re just like kids that way, huh? No grudges held between puppies though… seconds later, he snuggles in with her for a nice little nap.

Jean was right when she called him a laid-back kind of guy. He takes his own sweet time when I call them to come inside, stopping to sniff here and there, walking by a stick that he just cannot resist picking up, but then it piques his interest and he forgets about going inside and sits down to happily chew away. Definitely beats to his own drum, this one, but oh, what a charmer! All he has to do is bat his gorgeous green eyes at me and I’m all, “Ok honey, take your time Bogie-boo, there’s no rush. I can be a little late for work”.

Ok, so he’s got me whipped, on to the important facts: Both of these guys are off to a good start with potty training and are sleeping like champs at night. I literally don't hear a peep out of the crate for at least 6-7 hours after they settle in, and they are right next to my bed. They also spend quite a bit of quiet playtime/naptime baby-gated in the kitchen with blankets and toys on the floor, and have only had a couple of accidents in there. Not bad for their first week of training. I’ve also noticed they aren’t quite as mouthy with humans as some pups are at this age. Maybe it’s because they still have each other, so they are learning to reserve that behavior for dog play. Wishful thinking? Yeah, maybe.

One correction from my previous assessment... every day these two look less and less like Golden Retriever pups. Although their coloring is definitely Golden, their fur is very unique, and almost looks like it has highlights. Their faces are also getting scruffier -- but they really are SO adorable -- their pictures don't do them justice. As mentioned above, they both have these gorgeous green eyes, which, it turns out, can sometimes look a little sinister with flash photography (and they also turn out blue!). I will keep trying to get some better pictures, but even better yet, come meet them for yourself! You won't be disappointed.

Bogart & Aris had their 8 week shots yesterday and are ready to meet their forever families! Let placementatragom [dot] org know if you think one of them is the perfectly unique little pup you've just been waiting to add to your family.

Bogart & Aris 06-405

Oh my gosh, I'm in puppy heaven! Foster mom Jean brought all 9 pups down to the Cities this weekend to meet prospective families and do adoptions. Only 3 are left and we decided to keep them in the metro since the majority of adoptive families are here. I was lucky enough to get 2 of them, Bogart 06-401 and Aris 06-405. They are just the cutest little things...neither of them have the Labrador look that most of this litter had, but rather look a lot more like Goldens - they have the longer fur and light gold coloring, but they also have this scrappy little terrier thing going on around their noses that is just darling! And they ARE little scrappers together... it is so much fun to watch them play and wrestle and chase. Aris is the leader of the two, or so I thought anyway. Yesterday Bogie was following her all over and mostly chasing her, but today he seems to be evening out the playing field. He loves to chase her, catch her by the tail, and then she turns around and chases him. What a hoot! They are both great snugglers and compete for lap time.

And get this, they both slept for 7.5 hours straight last night in their crate! I was shocked. Granted, they were up late and played and pottied their hearts out until after 11pm, but still, I was amazed they could hold it that long overnight. When they are up and running around, it seems we are heading outside every 5 minutes for potty breaks. But they are doing great so far, and almost always go potty right away when you take them out.

These two won't be around for long, so don't hesitate if you want to meet Aris or Bogart, but be prepared to have your heart stolen! Email placementatragom [dot] org to meet them.

Bogart and a couple of his sisters look like they might have some Terrier in them, with those scruffy looking whiskers around their noses. Bogart is a hang back kind of guy. He likes to hang back and investigate before he does anything. He was the third dog at the door to go outside, but he ended up actually the sixth or seventh before he took the step to go outside. The same with going upstairs. He was one of the last three that went upstairs--then I had to carry him up the first time.
