Brandy arrived safe and sound at her new foster home Sunday afternoon. Brandy is a five year old spayed female who is up to date on her shots. She is good with kids and other dogs, loves to go for car rides and from what I'm told, listens very well when walking off leash. Brandy has met my two resident dogs and all went well - she broke the ice by sharing her toy that she brought from her previous home. She even has her own bed and all three dogs have tried out all three beds to see which one is just right for them!
Brandy was given up because she needs knee surgery. Dogs have two ligaments that help stabilize the leg bones when they stand and for Brandy one of those is torn and therefore not helping her support her body when she puts weight on it. Right now she is in lots of pain and is not putting any weight on that back leg. Because I could tell she was in lots of pain, we moved her surgery consult up a few days and she went in yesterday afternoon to get checked out. Brandy will be having her surgery tomorrow. She will have to stay overnight tomorrow but if all goes well, she can come home Thursday. After surgery she will have a six to twelve week recovery time of being quiet and not walking/playing with the exception of going out for potty breaks.
More after her surgery?
