Bree (Audrey 10-076)

Profile

Audrey is a 3 y.o. puppy mill dog that arrived from TN this weekend.  She came in with 4 other dogs she is the youngster in the bunch and the most shy and timid. We are thinking she wasn't producing puppies or had small litters that is why the breeder gave her up.  She and all the other dogs had a bath with a couple of sudsing as they all were very stinky.  She has never lived in a house, she was kept outside in a fenced in area with other dogs.  She is absolutely gorgeous, they called her a "California" blond.  She is very petite at 43 lbs but needs to put on at least 10 lbs.  She will not grow any bigger in height though.  She is UTD on all vaccinations and will be going in this week to get spayed and micro-chipped and then will be ready to start searching for her forever home.  I do not have a physical fence but she is going to the bathroom on leash.  She is navigating the doorways and stairs.  She really likes soft dog toys which is surprising coming from a mill.  It is very cute when she picks them up and carries them around.  I was playing fetch with our little yorkie and Audrey joined in to retrieve the toy first.  Her safe place seems to be under our kitchen table but she has crawled into our yorkie's 3x3 pen in the kitchen.  We also have discovered she likes to watch the TV.  She has also started to roam around the house on her own checking things out.  She has gotten up on the furniture too.  And has put her paws up on the counter. She is eating great from her bowl and out of our hands.

Some things that will be required for her forever home are:

1) another dog to show her the ropes.2) a fenced in yard 3) no young kids as she is skittish of fast movements and loud noises.4) patience and training to be the best she can be.

I think she will come around nicely as she is young and already starting to feel comfortable in the house and around people.  If you are an approved applicant and would like to meet her contact your placement advisor.

As most will agree, 2020 was a horrible year!  My year ended with helping Bree (fka Audrey 10-076) to the rainbow bridge on Dec. 10th. She would have turned 14 in February and was having trouble with her back legs. I knew she wouldn't be able to get around in the snow and her tired eyes told me it was time.

Bree became the 5th dog in the S. family to cross the bridge in 2020. My oldest son's dog died at age 15, then my first Golden who lived with my ex-husband died at age 14, followed by my 7-yr-old RAGOM boy, Memphis 14-193 unexpectedly in March. Next was another son's 7-yr-old Cocker Spaniel in June, and now Bree!

That was too much in one year!  Glad we closed the door on 2020!

Audrey is still very timid and is startled by any sudden movements.  She wants to stay in her safe spot in the corner and doesn’t want to get up to go outside, so we often carry her out.  Once outside, Audrey will walk on a leash quite well and is starting to enjoy her walks.   She does not sniff anything along the walk, like our resident dog does.  We try to get her to copy him and smell what he finds, but she doesn’t show any interest.  Our resident dog has tried to initiate play and she looks at him without any response.  She is afraid of other humans and she is also afraid of all of the neighborhood kids that came near and wanted to pet her.  She is eating better and is settling into a routine for eating and potty time schedules which is encouraging.  We are slowly making progress.

Audrey could be adopted by a family with a quiet home and a confident dog to help her learn how to be a normal dog herself.  The adopting family would have to be very patient, as this might take a year or more before she acts like a normal dog.

We took her to the vet 3 days ago because she had diarrhea.  The vet couldn’t find anything wrong other than she has a nervous stomach.  We got two prescriptions for her and she is better now but still not completely over it yet.
