Bridget now goes by Brittee, she came in from Rapid City, SD from a wonderful couple (Mike and Karen).  Karen does a lot of rescue work out in this area and happens to get the most incredible goldens.  We happened to be in Rapid City this past weekend and we picked Brittee up not knowing a whole lot about her.  I kept thinking, I wonder if I should tell hubby that we are going to bring an unknown dog home with us that lived at a breeder's home, never been in-doors, never been in a car, and was supposedly given to the HS because she was aggressive to animals. Nay, why tell him all the bad stuff right off, lets just enjoy the 9.5 hour drive home wondering what we had done if it was going to be that way.

But know, Karen gave Brittee a nice long bath and she did great, was very scared, but never showed any aggression.  Karen then dried her in an area that had three other dogs and 4 cats.  HELLO, surrendered because of aggressive to animals.  Well HELLOOOO no, not the case at all.  We now believe she was surrendered because she no longer could produce puppies.  She is 7 ½ years old!

We left Rapid City at 1:00 in the afternoon and Karen met us at the college we were visiting.  She jumped out to greet us, however terrified she still did.  We had her get in the next car and off we went.  Poor Brittee sat the whole 9.5 hour trip home.  I would get her to lie down next to me for a few minutes but she would be stiff, then for a second she would relax and then pop back up.  Man it was a long trip for her and me.  I was so worried since she did not sleep for a minute, me either for that matter.  9:45 in the evening we drove into town and wondered what would lie ahead.  Remember we are still unsure about her aggression to animals so we decide to error on the side of caution and introduce her very slowly to the crew.  Again, HELLO, nothing, she is like what ever, I am scared.  Help me.  We pottied had a bit to eat and before we knew it, it was 11:30.

Brittee found Mistee Bubbles crate and decided that was where you could find her if you needed her.  She laid down and we all went to bed.  The next morning I found her still just laying there waiting for someone to come out.  We went out potty and started her first full day as a RAGOM dog.

So what we know about Brittee, she is 7 at least, very sore ears, teeth need a cleaning and she needs to be spayed.  Brittee is like a Puppy Mill mom so she is going to need another dog to give her guidance.  Trust me she needs guidance.  If she feels trapped she gets so scared, Rick her foster dad still terrifies her and he is home all day with her.  But that is slowly changing.  Let’s face it she still runs from all of us, but will come around.  She knows how to get in and out of doors, which I think is a plus.   She no longer has to be on a leash when outside because she will come when we call her, but she really does not stray far either.  She is slowly learning the ins and outs of the world.  Last night she figured out that she could go into our oldest daughter's room and sleep on this comfortable bed with her and Sophee Bear the RAGOM rescue that Cindee adopted.

We have an incredible girl here, she is still working on potty training, she still has an accident a day if we are not being vigil about her signs, but we almost have them down.  She has a long way to go before she trusts.

Brittee loves being petted, loves her hair brushed as long as you go slow and gentle, does not mind her toe nails cut and is just there to please if she allows you to get close.  If you are willing to give this special SD girl a try, please send placementatragom [dot] org a note and we will meet with you.

A big thank you to Karen and Mike for finding her and helping us get her this past weekend.

Brittee is doing great and I can not believe she is still with us.  She is so sweet and mellow.  Her biggest issue – she wants you to hold her paw when you pet her.  Now how bad can that be.  We are still fighting her ear infections, but they are getting better.

Brittee's spay has finally healed and she is on her way to a better life.  The only thing that Brittee asks for in her next life is someone who will love her completely.  Brittee would benefit from having another dog around, but if you are willing to take things very slow, bring her to class and love her, then she will be okay alone.

Brittee likes to go for very short walks, but she does not want to go far.  She likes to stay close to home.  Once Brittee feels comfortable at her new home she can be left for the work day.  She loves a crate, but does not need to be locked in it.  She will more than likely sleep their all day.  Brittee sleeps in our bedroom on a dog bed.

So, are you ready to take a chance on a Red, happy puppy mill mom?  Please contact placementatragom [dot] org and let’s set up a meeting!

What a difference a week makes.  Brittee is doing wonderful.  Brittee needed to be spayed on Tuesday and everything is going well with her.  You would not have known she went through a spay and a birth all in one week.

Brittee has really turned the corner; she now follows us around and wants to be part of the family.  However, she has been given her very own crate because Mistee was getting tired of Brittee hogging it.  So now Brittee will sleep in her crate during the day and get this - she now sleeps in our bedroom with the other dogs.  We are so proud of her for making this big move.  It was wonderful waking up Thursday morning to seeing her at the side of the bed.

Now the bad news.  July 4th was really rough on her.  We were being so careful to never let her out when the fire works were going off.  But one time she went out and got spooked – she took off and jumped a retaining wall.  The bad news to all of this is she opened her spay incision wide open!  We had to head to the vet right away this morning to get some staples put in.  She is now doing fine and has settled into her new crate/house.  She just loves it when we put something over it, she feels nice and safe.

Brittee continues to amaze us every day and she has not had an accident in the house since Monday.  She has a definite sign that she needs to go out and we just watch for it.  Brittee stayed home with the other dogs on Thursday for 6 hours by themselves and she did great.  As fair as we can tell, everyone did the normal sleep thing and no accidents.

Brittee loves to go on her short walks.  We need to keep getting them longer and longer, she has very little muscle mass in her legs and she is still very skinny.  Today she weighed 53 pounds and really should be closer to 60.

Brittee will be at the Petco in Richfield on Saturday from 11 to 12:30, if you are interested in meeting her, I know she would love to meet the public, so please come out and meet a few dogs.  Also, if you are interested in meeting Brittee, please contact placementatragom [dot] org so we can talk.

What a day it has been.  Last night Brittee was acting strange and sleeping in Mistee Bubbles house and licking and licking and licking.  We kept thinking well maybe she is going through a stage or going into heat.  In the back of our minds we kept asking, do you think she could possibly be pregnant?  I did not think so, she was to skinny!  Well low and behold.   Britt gave birth to a stillborn pup at 1:00 this afternoon.  Rick was home with her when all of this took place – we had NO idea she was PG, except for this morning she started nesting and so I figured I would have an x-ray shot before she got spayed in the morning.

I brought the stillborn pup and Britt down to see Dr. Thole and get an x-ray done to make sure there were no other puppies.  Am I happy or sad to say – no more puppies?  As you can imagine Rick is a mess, he is convinced he did not do enough for the pup, but Dr. Tholl went in and opened the pup up and found out he had a bad heart and never took a breath once he was born.

Brittee is now back to her normal pillow sharing with Sophee Bear.  She had the pup in Mistee’s kennel – these are pictures of Brittee last night.   Brittee is still a great dog and still is working on trust issues, but today she let us handle her baby boy without any problems, so I think her trust will come quickly from here on. Brittee is still looking for her forever home, if you think you are willing to take a chance on a new mother who lost her baby, please let placement know.  She would love to meet you.  placementatragom [dot] org.
