Brinkley 08-574

Profile

Brinkley was surrendered to us in Willmar today by some very sad parents who were forced to give him up due to a city ordinance. He left behind several golden house-mates, who I'm sure he will miss, but the surrendering owners were only able to keep 3 dogs in town, so they were forced to give him up. He was obviously very well cared for and loved.

As you can see from his photos, Brinkley is a very handsome boy - neutered, and in great health from what we know and can tell so far. He has a strawberry blond coat, and is TALL, long, and lean! He has such a cute, long face - very unique looking guy. He's already met several people at work today, and they were all very impressed with his good
looks. :) Brinkley came into our home and met our resident dogs like a ball of fire - running in circles with excitement. His scruff stood up a little when our old girl gave him the business, but he was totally over her in about ten seconds. He really likes our boy golden, and immediately engaged in a game of keep away with him. Brinkley grabbed a toy, and ran in circles around our kitchen table, trying to get Hughie (our male golden), to chase after him. Hughie, however, doesn't move that fast (he can, just doesn't want to so much), and just watched with amusement as Brinks kept running until he made himself dizzy! It was pretty hysterical!

Poor guy did make a couple nervous puddles and one big pile, all within the first 5 minutes of meeting our dogs. But after that, seems like he'll be easy to finish potty training. The surrendering owners said he was about 80% housetrained. I was able to get him to go in the dog run a couple times already, and he went on our walk earlier, so I'm sure he'll be fine.

Brinkley hadn't used a gentle leader before I guess, but he did GREAT with it on our walk tonight! He loves to play. I'm sure he'll have a great time with dogs, kids, or any other moving thing that will pay attention to him! He is so cute - right now, Brinks is fast asleep on the kitchen floor- too much excitement for him tonight. I hate to wake him up - he looks so peaceful.

More to come on this happy boy soon!!

From Brinkley's forever family...

Just wanted to let you guys know Brinkley is doing really well. After two days of play-fighting, he and Apollo seem to have sorted things out and are now best buds. And he is such a tender cuddle bug! We love it! His tummy seems to be calming down a lot. We have a vet check the 13th to make sure.

Thanks for taking such good care of our sweet boy. We are so happy to have him and Apollo couldn't wish for a better brother.

Thanks again!

Things have been pretty mellow around here this week- poor Brinkley got stuck with us while I've been at home all week with an awful cold. He's spent a lot of time curled up on the chair, just watching me, wondering when I'm going to get up and DO something! Actually, he's been so great - even crawled up with me on the couch a few times - stretching out his long body across mine - guess he thinks that will make me feel better. He's right. :)

Brinkley has been nothing but a joy to have in our home. He is basically house-trained, now that he knows where to go. He did test positive for giardia which has caused diahrea, but as long as we're
paying attention to him, he save that yucky business for outside. Brinks is being treated w/oral meds for the giardia (a parasite found in their stool...) and will finish those this week. We'll have him re-tested to be sure it's gone, but otherwise, he had a clean bill of health from the vet!

Brinks and our two dogs are still having lots of fun playing around the house - chasing, tugging, chewing on each other, fetching...he's lovin' just about anything you present to him right now. He likes to follow us around the house - wants to lay in whatever room we're in, in true Golden style. Oh, he can catch toys in his mouth when you throw them at him - so I'm guessing Frisbee would be an excellent choice for playtime outside (once the snow storms are over, that is)!

I brushed him last night for a little bit- he wasn't sure if it was annoying or a game. Did get tons of fur out of that coat - his new family will want to be prepared for brushing/bathing him often, since he has fairly long, thick fur and does shed (again, true golden).

Brinkley loves to snuggle in bed at night - he's been jumping up there while we get ready at night, but we have him on the floor once we get in, and he sleeps all night that way - great!

We have a lovely couple coming to meet Brinks on Saturday, so we'll see how it goes - we'll let you know if he's found his forever home!

Brinkley had a great day today - he stayed in the dog room with our two resident dogs - just over 6 hours and no accidents! Well, he did get super excited when I came home, and had a couple accidents while I was greeting him - he just gets really excited I think - I'm sure he'll grow out of this.

We went on a 2 mile walk today - he is so good on his gentle leader. Didn't try to pull or rub his face or anything - he'll be a wonderful partner for someone who loves their daily walks! He also made it most of the night without waking us to go out - at 4am he did nose us to go potty, but he went, came back, and slept until about 6, and then again until 8...might just be first night jitters, too.

For 10 months, and in a brand new home with new dogs and people, I think Brinkley is doing marvelously. We take him to the vet tomorrow evening, so hopefully he gets a clean bill of health and we can start looking for his forever home right away. Such a great guy shouldn't take long!!!

Here are some new pics that show off how handsome he really is - how can you resist this looker? :)
