Buck 02-222

Profile

I rescued Buck from a farm in Ham Lake tonight. He is a 43 pound male Golden/Yellow Lab Mix. He looks all golden except has some white on his tummy and white on the tips of his paws. He has a true golden personality though. He was an outside dog and also has never had a ride in a car. He appears to be in very good health and is so friendly. Everyone is his long lost friend. He is also a Velcro dog, never wanting to leave you. He does not lick your face which I think is a huge plus. He is adapting well to living in a house and only raised his leg once inside. We are visiting the Vet tomorrow morning for a full menu of shots and possibly to have his “manhood” removed.

It is with two very heavy hearts that we wake up this morning without our beloved Buckley, whom we adopted on October 4th, 2002 and he changed our world forever.

He had just turned 8 years old when we picked him up and who knew that he would be the most special senior dog we could ever ask for. We don't know if we adopted him or he us. He kept us laughing those first few years - counter surfing, trying to keep up with our sled dogs. One of our favorite memories of him is when we were leaving for the weekend and taking our sled dogs up north. He was going to have a sitter but that was not meant to be. We had left some food and a pan of brownies on the counter ready to pack and we were outside getting everyone ready to go. We came inside to go thru the house one last time and there was the pan of brownies on the floor, licked clean. We didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Needless to say, we cancelled the sitter and our trip. He managed to get rid of the brownies once he didn't want them anymore on our bed - right between the pillows.

In his later years, he loved to visit the barn kitties and chickens and go for walks in the field and sniff out the deer and other critters. He loved going to the chiropractor because he knew Dr. Mark made him feel better. He turned 16 on August 8th this year and on September 1st, we found out he had a tumor on his lungs and wouldn't have long to live. We got another 2 months and 6 days and although some of those days were hard, he still loved to go on walks though shorter and slower and lick the ice cream and oatmeal bowls until last Wednesday. Many thanks to our friend Ann who helped us help him see his 5 brothers, 2 cousins, and kitty again at the bridge. We know that someday we will be with him again and we'll go for those walks in the field again.

We love you Buckaroo. You were the light of our lives.

Buck is really settling in here. He is great at playing “fetch” and always brings the ball back to me. He is calmer now also. He still has no accidents in the house and loves to run around in the yard. I previously wrote that Buck dug under my fence and broke through the wood fence. I was mistaken and recently had an incident with my dog in which she dug under the fence and broke through in another spot. So I blamed Buck by mistake. Buck might jump a low fence, but he has not been digging.

Buck is really a joy to have around the house. He is the first one to give kisses and hugs. He is listening better and rarely disobeys. Anyone would be really lucky to get him. He is a bit on the small side which is nice because he is easy to pick up and have as a lap dog. Buck does this funny little hop when you grab his collar and lead him. He hops on his back legs and looks like a kangaroo. It is just hilarious to see. You would think he would choke from the pressure on the collar, but he doesn’t since he is so light weight. He actually enjoys doing it.

If you are looking for a loyal and somewhat mellow golden, Buck is the one for you. He is easy to care for and just needs some TLC. Are you out there?
