On Wednesday June 24th we had to help Buddy over the Rainbow Bridge.

He was loved beyond measure.

Buddy was a stray when he came into RAGOM, and I was the lucky person to foster him. He definitely had a mind of his own, which did not change over the years.

He has been on steroids his whole life for his breathing, but that did not hamper him.

He loved stuffed animals! When we took him to visit family and friends he would search the whole house for any and all stuffed animals. Sometimes brought some home. When our neighbors had items to take to the local thrift store and left their trunk open, Buddy helped himself to a very large stuffed rabbit and brought it home and set it on our porch. Which startled my husband.

You never knew what he would have in his mouth when he scratched at the door. Mice, chipmunks, rabbits, muskrats.....I am sure this was part of his survival skills as a stray.
He did come home with porcupine quills once too, only once.

He loved affection!! Oh my, he loved affection! He would love it if anyone would get on the floor and cuddle with him. He was a charmer so it was not hard to shower him with hugs and pets.

We will miss him endlessly. There will be an empty spot in our life that will not be filled.

Thank You

Vicki G.

Buddy continues to be a great dog.
Sometimes he barks too much (which is sometimes the coyotes), and sometimes he lets Lew (our resident dog) know Buddy is alpha (which he really isn't).

We have two cats, one he barks and chases, and the other he hangs out with.
Sometimes he comes when he is called and sometimes he will sit and look at you like "what?" "I'm busy looking down the driveway."
Sometimes he kills and eats mice or rabbits. And when you take it away from him he looks at you like you are denying him the best meal in the world.
But, when Buddy looks at you with those beautiful eyes, like you are the best person in the world, and lays his head on your lap. He is perfect.
Which is why we are going to keep him. Buddy is adopted..... by us.
Thank-You Dennis and Joanne M. for sponsoring Buddy.

RAGOM takes on allot of expenses for foster dogs and it is great when people like you unselfishly donate to help.

When Buddy came off steroids his breathing became worse. So bad I had to break down and give him a steroid. He has an appointment at the U next week for x-rays and to do a procedure to look in his lungs and bronchial passages while he is off meds.
If Buddy were an older dog, the Vet would not question to have Buddy on steroids continuously, but he is very young. To be on steroids his whole life would take a toll on his body. So we are exhausting all efforts to find out what is going on with him. If he ends up being on steroids continuously at least we tried
The family that has been waiting for him has decided to adopt a dog they had been fostering from their local shelter. I thank them for being so patient, and wish things would of turned out better for them and Buddy.

This week Buddy starts on his steroids every other day.

So we have our paws crossed his breathing stays good.

I so much want to get him off steroids permanently.

They may call me "Two Pack" because of my breathing problem,
but none are as handsome as me.

This is Buddy and he is fostered in Aitkin, MN. What a handsome guy!! A little history on Buddy. He was a stray and found on a farm in Southern Iowa. That's it. That is all we know.

He was to the vet today and what we do know is that he is not neutered. Vet said he is about 1-2 years old, so we will say 1 1/2. He has fleas, hook worms, whip worms, a yeast ear infection. He is 57.5 lbs. His coat is very dry and thin. Now on the good side....he does not have heartworm, or any tick borne diseases.

All these nasty things that are taking residence on or in him are temporary and will soon be gone. He will be neutered next Wednesday. He was given all his immunizations and microchipped. And he was a very good boy during all this poking and prodding.

He is now on a very good dog food which will help his coat. He has not had any accidents in the house. He is curious about the cats but so far has not chased. And a very good temperament!! Very sweet. And a Velcro dog. Wow, that is a lot in one day!

I will keep you updated on Buddy as we get to know him better.
