Buddy (aka bud, budbud, sweet boy, peanut, handsome, escape artist) came into Ragom on Saturday and is just the sweetest thing. The family who surrendered him said that they rescued him from a puppy mill 2 years ago. He definitely acts like he's been abused at some point in his past. He shies away from hands and acts very nervous. When I got him, his tail was between his legs. After a good nights sleep, he had a wagging tail but is still very reserved.
We've already had quite an adventurous time together. On Sunday he escaped from my home so myself, 3 neighbors, 2 Community Service Officers, 1 Security Guard, 3 Good Samaritans and 4 hours later, Escape artist formerly known as Buddy was safely back in my home. He got lots of cuddles and tears after that one! Because of this incident, he will only be adopted to a family with a fence.
He loves to cuddle and give kisses. He is very hesitant with people but loves to give kisses after meeting.
He wasn't allowed to go to the upstairs in his surrendering home so it took about 24 hours for him to get to the top of mine. He would go up a couple stairs and cry and run back down. It was pretty sad, but he's getting more adventurous now. He will now come upstairs but only if he is right at my feet. He won't go up on his own and is cautious still.
I think he is just a little peanut but he weighs 62 pounds! I never would have guessed that because he really has a smaller stature.
He hasn't been in his foster home long enough to know for sure, but he so far my inclination is to say that he needs to be an only dog or paired with another more submissive dog. He is terribly shy of his foster brothers and doesn't know how to play with them. However, he loves the great dane next door.
He was around all ages of kids in his last home and reportedly did fine. He is very gentle so I cannot imagine he wouldn't be good around them.
Every little noise has scared him thus far, but that may change after he settles in, but I can' say for sure. He actually jumps and looks like he's going to bolt when my washing machine clicks (very small noise, but different). He has a very strong fight or flight response to many things.
