Buddy 08-434

Profile

Buddy (aka bud, budbud, sweet boy, peanut, handsome, escape artist) came into Ragom on Saturday and is just the sweetest thing. The family who surrendered him said that they rescued him from a puppy mill 2 years ago. He definitely acts like he's been abused at some point in his past. He shies away from hands and acts very nervous. When I got him, his tail was between his legs. After a good nights sleep, he had a wagging tail but is still very reserved.

We've already had quite an adventurous time together. On Sunday he escaped from my home so myself, 3 neighbors, 2 Community Service Officers, 1 Security Guard, 3 Good Samaritans and 4 hours later, Escape artist formerly known as Buddy was safely back in my home. He got lots of cuddles and tears after that one! Because of this incident, he will only be adopted to a family with a fence.

He loves to cuddle and give kisses. He is very hesitant with people but loves to give kisses after meeting.

He wasn't allowed to go to the upstairs in his surrendering home so it took about 24 hours for him to get to the top of mine. He would go up a couple stairs and cry and run back down. It was pretty sad, but he's getting more adventurous now. He will now come upstairs but only if he is right at my feet. He won't go up on his own and is cautious still.

I think he is just a little peanut but he weighs 62 pounds! I never would have guessed that because he really has a smaller stature.

He hasn't been in his foster home long enough to know for sure, but he so far my inclination is to say that he needs to be an only dog or paired with another more submissive dog. He is terribly shy of his foster brothers and doesn't know how to play with them. However, he loves the great dane next door.

He was around all ages of kids in his last home and reportedly did fine. He is very gentle so I cannot imagine he wouldn't be good around them.

Every little noise has scared him thus far, but that may change after he settles in, but I can' say for sure. He actually jumps and looks like he's going to bolt when my washing machine clicks (very small noise, but different). He has a very strong fight or flight response to many things.

I just can't say enough about this little budbud. He has the makings of a true foster failure (When foster adopts the dog). I just love this little guy! He is loving, sweet, gives kisses, cuddles and wants nothing more than to be with FM or at FM's side.

He plays well with the resident golden's and really loves playing with other dogs he has met. He got to play ball in a large fenced yard over the weekend and while he hasn't quite gotten the fetch part down, he sure loved running after the ball!

He has started walking phenomenally on a leash with a gentle leader. He gets excited when he sees dogs or people and wants to play when we're on our walks but with the gentle leader he is a complete gentleman.

This morning when we were getting up, FM pushed the snooze button (OK OK more than once) and every time this happened Buddy sighed and fell back into a ball against FM. It was the cutest thing.

Contact placementatragom [dot] org if you want to save me from becoming a true foster failure :-)

Have I mentioned that Buddy is completley housebroken? Well, he is :-) He continues to get better and better and has turned out to be a phenomenal dog! He has gotten to come to work with FM several times. His first day his tail was between his legs and now he prances on his way in and stops in everyone's office for a little lovin'. He hasn't tried to escape since that first night and now just wants to be with FM... He cuddles on the sofa and curls up in bed. He loves giving kisses and cuddles.

Whichever home he goes to is going to be so lucky! This little guy has so much love to give. Have I mentioned that he smiles at you when you walk in the door? Buddy was neutered on Wednesday and is ready to go to his furever home and to live the golden life!

I can't even begin to talk about what an amazing dog Buddy has turned out to be.  He has made such strides the week that he's been in foster care that I cannot even imagine how he can become better but I know with a loving caring home he will make the perfect Golden!

When he came to RAGOM he was afraid of people, stairs, dogs, cars, toys...  and likely many more things that we didn't even look at.  He shied away from people and their hands.  When FM would try to pet him, he would drop to the ground like he was going to be hit.

He would cry when coaxed upstairs and it took a long time to get him comfortable with it.

He was very afraid of his foster brothers and would run away from them if they even looked at him.

He tried to run away when we'd go for a car ride.  He spent the whole ride cowering and shaking in fear.

He didn't know how to play with toys. He wasn't given toys in his home because they said he destroyed them so he didn't know what to do with toys in his Foster Home.

Now...
While he is cautious around new people, he was able to come to work with FM and after a couple hours his tail was waving and he thought he was a hero.  Even with all the crazy people in the office he did awesome (just kidding guys).  He even got to play kissy-face with a baby!  He went up to people to get pet and actually whined if they walked away.

He runs up and down the stairs like they are a speedway.  He goes exploring on his own now and has no hesitation at all.

He loves playing with his foster brothers!  They have become great friends and play together all day long.  His foster brothers have shown him that there is nothing to be afraid of here!  My first inclination was wrong and he would actually do VERY good with another dog or two.  He will do good in any situation where he gets attention.

Buddy has gotten into a car all by himself!!  FM has an SUV and he crawled right up through the back!  This was such a wonderful thing that he got an extra treat!  He even started enjoying the ride and chewed on a bone.

Buddy spent his first night in his Foster Home downstairs crying and he now comes upstairs and curls in bed with FM and foster brothers.  He's made himself right at home.  His foster cat brother also cuddles with him at night.  Buddy has been grooming the kitty and kitty is giving him the head bump.  Buddy whines if the kitty ignores him.

Buddy has lots of energy so will need an active home.  We go for 1-3 walks every day and he loves them!  He is getting better on the leash and now his foster brothers have taught him how to walk on a leash.  It is likely he will destroy things if he becomes bored.  I say this because he tore up a receipt at work when he got bored.  So far, however, he hasn't destroyed anything while FM is at work.

He smiles when FM comes home from work!  His lips curl up and he spins in a circle.  This is just so cute and it's so fun to come home from work!

As you can see from the pics, he is very playful.  We found out this weekend that he likes playing with a hose!  That was lots of fun.

I'll be honest, Buddy came from a not so good background and it may take a little bit for him to fit in but he will make just an amazing dog!  I have absolutely fallen in love with this little budbud and want him to have the best Furever home possible!  Contact placementatragom [dot] org if you'd be interested in meeting him.
