5/1/07: Craig has been with me, Nala and Sue since Sunday and he is a sweetheart.  He is definitely timid and will hit the ground in scary situations, which just breaks my heart.  He definitely needs training which will not only build his confidence, but help him in the manners category as well:)  He has had a few accidents in my house, but he has been moved a lot since he has been with RAGOM, so that is to be expected.  Last night, I took him on a home visit and he had so much fun playing with their resident dog; he was 'dog tired' when we got home!  Another dog is a must for Craig, as he looks to them to learn what is 'okay'.  Also, no cats as Craig seems to not deal with the cats very well. He has learned its okay to sleep in the bedroom and even its okay to sleep on the bed with the other dogs and human.   He sleeps great through the night and gets up and goes right out in the morning.  Tonight I am going to take him for a run and see how he does.  He seems to be active and play great, but then settles in nicely and will just lay at my feet when I am working on the computer.

Craig is sweet and easy to have around.  If I was looking to adopt, he would probably be staying, but since I can't, I am looking for the perfect forever home; one with patience, understanding and love to prove to Craig that not all humans are bad.  If you are that special home, please contact placement to set up a meeting with this very special guy:)

Craig went home with Kris, John and Maddie on Saturday afternoon.  It was a hard day for me and through tears, I waved goodbye to my wonderful sweet boy Craig.  Nala and I miss Craig very much....Sue, on the other hand, was trying to figure why Craig was gone and Nala was still here (shame on you Sue!).  I wondered on Saturday why I was adopting out the good dog and keeping the two trouble makers :)  We will miss Craig, but know that the P family will love Craig forever and make him happy and they will keep us updated on how he is doing :)

Craig sent me this email:

Dear Foster Mom, Nala and Sue:

I'm sorry you didn't get my earlier e-mail. So I am trying again. As before, I am dictating and my new cat-brother Teddy is typing (I guess cats ARE good for some things).

I like it here in my new forever home. I'm trying so hard to be a good brother to my new cat-siblings. But sometimes I get so excited when I see them. I want so bad to wrestle them, but Forever Mom Kris says that cats don't like to wrestle. Who doesn't like to wrestle? I don't understand cats. Also, the cats have this feather toy on a stick, and Forever Mom Kris and Forever Dad John use it to play with them, and it looks like so much fun that I just run over to join in. I don't understand why the cats all run away when I do this. I guess I'm still learning about cat behavior.

I love my new human sister, Maddie. She is so fun, and we do lots of things together. She plays the piano and I like to lay by her feet and listen. When she goes into her room to read a book, I jump up on the bed with her and push the book with my nose until she pets me. Sometimes she reads out loud to me, and I like that. She also takes me outside and runs around with me and takes me over to see my new best dog-friend Lucky. Lucky is an old dog and can't run as fast as me. But we like to sniff each other and hang out. Lucky is a rescue dog too (a yellow lab) and his Forever Mom Mavis is really nice. She said I could come over and visit anytime.

Forever Mom Kris is always telling me what a good dog I am and gives me lots of hugs and kisses. I am still a little shy sometimes of John. But Kris and Maddie keep telling me what a good human he is, and I am starting to believe them. He gives me lots of treats, and when he thinks Kris and Maddie aren't listening, he talks to me. He and I are going to be best friends someday. I know it!

Kris and John put my comforter on the floor in their bedroom, but I like their bed so much better. My cat-brother Teddy usually sleeps on the bed with them at night. But he decided it was OK if I sleep up there too, if I stay on my side of the bed. Kris says we are really cute all curled up together at the foot of the bed. (Kris said she will try to get a picture of this to send to you. But don't show it to Nala and Sue, I don't want them to think I've gone "soft" on cats.) I slept in Kris and John's bed until about 5 a.m. this morning and then I decided that Maddie might be missing me, so I went in her room and jumped up on her bed and slept until 8 a.m.

Tonight, I'm going to meet some new friends and their dog Rocky. I hope Rocky likes me and wants to wrestle. I miss my foster siblings, Nala and Sue!

Craig would like to send a big hug and give thanks to his sponsors Joanne and Dennis McCarl for making him feel extra special by sponsoring him!!

Craig will be at Petco in St. Cloud on Saturday from 11-2 pm.

Craig would like to thank his number one fan, Jonathon,  for visiting him at Doggie Palooza on Saturday.  He had so much fun wresting with a giant malemute and running the lure course!  The pictures are of superfast Craig running.

Come and meet Craig on Saturday (AKA Speedy).   He would love to meet you!!

Here is 'Speedy' running the Lure Course at Doggie Palooza!

So fast his ears defy gravity!

Craig will be at the Renaissance festival on Saturday.   As you can see below, he is sporting a fancy cone on his head.  Poor Craig has been battling allergies and this past weekend he was so miserable.  He had chewed off the hair on his tail and had open wounds up and down his tail.  I brought him to the vet and they shaved his tail and it looks so painful.  To prevent further itching and chewing he must wear a cone when I cannot supervise him.    He is on a course of prednisone, antibiotics and benedryl to help battle the allergy problem.  The good news is his ears have finally cleared up!  One small victory for Craig:)

As you can see, Craig is a wonderful, sweet dog;  even with the cone on, he is eager to please.    He charmed everyone at the vets office (as he always does) and everyone who meets him, falls in love with him.

Craig's ideal forever family will have another dog for him to play with (Craig got his courage from Nala the lionhearted) and enjoys very much the company of other dogs.  He also is okay to live with cats.   If you have a another dog looking for a playmate, Craig would be perfect.  Please contact placement or attend the Renaissance Festival on Saturday and meet him in person!

Craig will be at Petco on Saturday.  Come and meet this guy!

Craig is doing well and has adjusted beautifully to life with a family.  He is loves to go for a run with me and then he is pretty tuckered so he usually takes a nap afterwards.  Craig and Nala have much fun playing together.  During the day while I am at work, I continue to crate Craig.  When I get home, I take him for his run and then if I have to run errands or go anywhere at night, I can let him have free roam and he does wonderfully: no accidents, no getting into anything.

Craig is looking for a forever home with another dog and no cats.  He loves to be around other dogs and it has helped him learn to be at ease and comfortable in our home.  Craig is so sweet and easy to have around, I still cannot understand why no one has scooped this boy up :)  If you are interested in being Craig's forever home, please contact placement.

Craig attended the PetSmart event yesterday hoping to meet his forever family and unfortunately, we had a low turn out of approved applicants.  He did however spend the afternoon being loved up by a little girl who really wanted to bring him home with her to live but they were not approved applicants, just fans of RAGOM who wanted to visit and meet the dogs.

Craig has lived with us for 7 days now and he is very mellow and very sweet.  He just needs someone to work with him.  If he does something that you do not want him to do, when you try to redirect him to do what you want him to do, he immediately lays down and presents his belly.  It will take someone to be patient with him and coax him with food (he is very food motivated) to do what you want him to do.  For example, I am trying to teach him to wait until I get into bed and invite him up before jumping up.  He jumps up right away and I try to get him to jump down and stay and wait until I give the word but once he is up on the bed, when I try to get him down, he rolls over and presents his belly and will not budge, I think mostly in fear.  So luring him down with a treat and then working with him on the stay until he gets the okay to jump up, is what is needed.

While I am at work, I crate him during the day.  I tried babygating him in a room, but I always came home to him having broke free and the house looking like teenagers through a party (I believe from Craig and Nala wrestling and playing).  I am confident that Craig will be able to have free roam of the house one day, but for now, he does okay in his kennel.

Craig is great and up for about anything.  He ran 3 miles with me the other night, but then that pretty much tuckered him out.  He was at the PetSmart event yesterday and when we got home, he slept the rest of the afternoon.  Craig just wants a home where he will be loved and someone to be patient and will show him the ropes and train him so he knows what to do and expect so he will be more confident and will not have to resort to rolling on his side and presenting his belly because he is too scared and doesn't know what to do.

Craig is a wonderful dog and if you feel that you are the right forever family for Craig, please email placement and let them know.
