Caddy is the most amazing little guy. A gorgeous boy who hails from Turkey, thanks to RAGOM’s International Outreach program. Caddy was a loved dog until his owner passed away, and he was then taken in by one of our rescue partners.

He is a special dog with special needs, as he cannot see or hear the world around him. Even with these challenges, Caddy is always happy and has a tail wag for anyone who says hello. Follow Caddy’s adventures on Instagram at p_s.ragom.fosters.

Caddy has been with us for approximately seven weeks now. It has been a learning experience for both Caddy and foster mom and dad. First was how to communicate. With a blind dog you still can use verbal commands to guide them and warn about steps, walls and objects in their way. With a deaf dog you can use hand signals.

With Caddy, you can guide him with a leash or touch his nose and he can follow your hand with his incredible sense of smell. He is also very capable of wandering around by himself and figuring out the layout of his domain!

Caddy gets along wonderfully with our other foster dogs, Missy 19-051 and Otis 19-052, and resident brother Harley kitty.

Caddy likes to go for leisurely walks, exploring new smells. Loves hanging out in the backyard.

Caddy loves to go for van rides and is a very good passenger.

Health-wise, Caddy has been diagnosed with Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) with cataracts by Dr. Dennis K. Olivero, DVM Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.

Caddy requires Ketoralac Tromethamine Ophthalmic Solution drops in both eyes once a day. The cost is about $30 per bottle and lasts about two months. He also needs to have his eye pressure checked every six months.

Caddy loves sharing secrets and having a good laugh when visiting Faith 12-075, who is also blind. 

He also enjoyed meeting Faith’s sisters Jersey, Teddi and Lucy.

Caddy adapted very well when he stayed with Aunt Patty, Uncle Greg, Sammi and Saraha while new windows were installed in our house. He even went up to their cabin, waded in the lake, and had a lovely time!

As you can see, Caddy is just like any other dog. He just takes a little more patience as he gets used to new places, but he adapts very quickly with a little assistance from his family and friends.

What Caddy needs in his forever home:

• A home with no or a small amount of stairs.  He is also light enough to be carried if needed.
• A fenced-in yard is preferable, so that he can wander freely about his kingdom.
• Comfy dog beds and couches to cuddle on with you.
• Caddy can be an only dog or have other dogs/cats in his forever family.
• Commitment to give him his eyedrops every day and have his eye pressure checked every six months with their vet or doggy eye doctor.
• To feed a sensitive tummy diet as he does very well with that. He is also on a joint supplement.
• Caddy is a very social dog, so he likes to go places and meet new people and other animals.
• He does best when items in his house do not move around, so if you like to rearrange the furniture every three months, Caddy is probably not the dog for you.
