Meet Caesar, an 11 year old Golden Retriever with a heart of gold in a small body! Caesar appears to have the "dwarf" gene, as he looks like a very short legged Golden. If you can imagine a body with the build of a Bassett Hound, but the head and coat of a Golden, you have this little sweetie! His legs are about 6 inches long, and when he loses some weight (he was free fed in his previous home, and it doesn't look like he ever missed a meal!) he will be a nice sized, little guy. He is just adorable!

Caesar came to us last weekend from a home that loved him very much but just couldn't keep him any longer. He has seen the vet, and aside from being overweight, he is a healthy guy. He apparently had mild seizures in the past so he is on a low dose of Phenobarbital, which is inexpensive and appears to be doing the trick. He does have a broken tooth that will be pulled this week, but that's it.

Now for all the good stuff. Caesar is a love bug but not in a clingy way, he just wants to be in the same room with you. He enjoys running and sniffing outside, but when you go in the house he is content just to hang out quietly. He hasn't really been interested in toys, but last night he picked up a nylabone and chewed on it for the first time, so maybe his tooth is just too sore for him to enjoy carrying stuff in his mouth. He has not had a single accident in the house, and I would deem him completely trustworthy alone. He is crated right now when we aren't home as the resident Queen Sassy isn't too sure she likes him yet and she can really be a pill. He and Wyatt had free run of the house for several hours while Sass was in "school", and they were just fine together, so he doesn't really need the crate.

Caesar loves, loves, loves his walks. When we get up in the morning he runs outside and stands at the gate, waiting for someone to put his leash on him and open the gate. He just loves all the sniffs, and walking along with the big dogs, it is quite the sight. We are walking him a little shorter distance than the big dogs, until he loses a little weight, and he often gets a little short walk in the evening as well. We come back after touring the neighborhood and he really enjoys rolling in the grass, I'll try to get a picture of that, it is very cute.

Our neighbor brought her 16 month old niece Lydia over this weekend, and Caesar was very patient as she petted his head, so I'd say he is kid tested. He gets along with all the dogs he has met, and while interested in the cat, he really just wants to get a good look and sniff at him. This is a really mellow dog, with a nice energy level who won't drive you crazy and just wants to hang out with you. So if you are an approved applicant who wants a Golden personality in a compact body, send an email to placementatragom [dot] org and we'll try to set up a meeting!

Updates

Sunday, January 4, 2009

Hi everyone, it's Caesar!  I went to my forever home yesterday, and I have settled in like I've been here my whole life!  My new mom bought me three brand new bolster beds, a cool raised feeding station and a bunch of toys to welcome me home.  We celebrated with some nice shank bones, me and the gang, and I even kissed my sister the kitty twice on the ear already.  My foster family hung out for awhile so I could take a nice walk with my new pack, and I know it was hard for them to say goodbye (me too.....).  But they just kept telling me how happy I was going to be here, and they are right!

I want to say thanks again to Don M for sponsoring me.  My new mom would be happy to have you come for a visit, or she will bring me to a Petco event so we can meet.  I'm so grateful for your sponsorship, you helped pay my vet bills while I was in foster care and it helps so much.  Thanks a million!

I also want to send big sloppy kisses to Uncle Rick and Aunt Pat, thanks for the egg babies and the star toy.  I packed them in my suitcase and brought them to my new digs.  I'll make sure Mindy and Sara don't get them too slobbery, I'll hide them in one of my beds.

Thanks to everyone for following my story, watching my video, and coming to events to meet me.  I know I'm a little unusual so I've gotten lots of attention, but please remember there are lots of other great dogs, senior dogs like me, waiting for their forever home.  We may not move quite as fast as the young dogs, but we're in "move in shape", we fit in and settle down much easier than those young whipper snappers.  Please consider adopting one of the other great senior dogs in foster care--we'll reward you a million times for taking a chance on us!

The biggest thanks I know how to give goes out to my foster family.  I know how hard it was for my foster mom to let me go--she told me she loved me every day I was in foster care, and I know she still loves me.  She loves me enough to let me go.  She said I would be happier in a home where the dogs don't play so rough, and she is right.  It was hard for us to say goodbye yesterday, and I know she is thinking about me right now.  But my mom said she can visit anytime she wants and I can't wait to see her again, soon.  It isn't goodbye foster mom, it is "see you later".  Because I know I will see you soon!

Here are a few more pictures of me, my svelte healthy self.  If you look at my first photos and see how heavy I was, and look at these new ones, you can just see how much better I feel having lost so much weight and gotten healthy, and I owe it all to RAGOM.  A couple of them are a little blurry--I was so excited to be going to my new home I couldn't stand still long enough to get a good photo, I was running from the gate to foster mom, and back.  But you get the idea.......I'm a happy guy!  I hope to see everyone again soon, at a Petco event, my mom said she'll drive!

I have awesome news, just awesome news!  I'm being adopted, can you believe it?  This wonderful woman who loves to adopt senior Goldens is going to adopt me (even though I don't feel old enough to qualify as a senior)......ME!  I'm so excited I can hardly stand it.  I went over and met her two dogs, Sara who is the same age as I am, and Minnie who is the youngster of the crew.  We all basically sat around and ignored each other, which is just fine by me, playing with bones and sitting on all the soft dog beds.  She has a really cool cat that I am just fascinated with, and who isn't the least bit concerned about me being in the room.  My foster mom says I like to chase cats, but my new mom isn't concerned at all--apparently she used to be a dog trainer (uh oh, could be trouble).  She fell head over heels in love with me, even though foster mom says I wasn't being my sweet, adorable self.  I was so interested in that cat that I didn't really snuggle and love up my new mom like I should have.......I'll make it up to you!  I'm going to stay in my foster home until the holiday madness is over but then I'm going to my forever home.  I'm SUCH a lucky dog, that RAGOM was here to take me in when I needed a paw, and that my foster family made me a part of their life.  I'll always be grateful!

Double high five!

Speaking of grateful, a thousand thanks to Don M for sponsoring me.  Of all the dogs you could have sponsored, you picked me, and I'm so thankful.  I'll be going to Petco on December 13th, from noon to 2:00, maybe you can come and meet me, I'd love to give you a kiss and a high five in person!  Thank you so much for helping out with my bills, that is so nice of you.  All us dogs in foster care depend on the generosity of people like you, so a thousand thank-you's.  I hope to meet you before I go to my forever home.

Things have been busy here with the holidays coming and all.  My foster family has been running around like mad, sometimes I get to go with, sometimes not.  The snow has been just awesome, I love to roll in it and eat it and snowplow in it, and the cold weather doesn't bother me at all.  Foster mom says I'm just a happy go lucky little guy, and she is going to miss my snuggles.  She also whispered that my new mom says she has visitation rights, whatever that means, but I guess it means when I leave here, it won't be goodbye, just "see you later".  I'm happy about that, I love my foster mom.  I finally let her help me up on the bed this morning (I'm just too short to get up there by myself), and I guess there is photographic evidence of me under the covers with her.  She said something about "over my dead body", so we'll see if the evidence ever sees the light of day.  Life is good!

Here are a couple of new pictures.  One is of me watching "Max TV", where I sit and watch the lovebird play with her toys.  She is a little hard to see, but she's in there, trust me.  One is me sitting up on my back legs, now that I'm so svelte, I like doing that and it makes everyone laugh.

I'll catch up with everyone soon, and stop and see me at Petco, I love to meet new people!

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day in the neighborhood.......when you're a celebrity, that is!!  Did everyone see me on Fox 9 last week?  Wasn't I just pawsitively adorable?  I was asked to be a spokes dog for senior foster dogs, and I have to say, I was a hit!  Thanks to Maury Glover for coming to my house and interviewing me, I sure enjoyed meeting you.  I have been shopping online this morning and I ordered some sunglasses, to better hide from the paparazzi.....I'll have my staff take some photos, for sure.

It has been a busy few weeks here.  First, and most exciting, I now have a sponsor!  How cool is that!  Thank you so much to Don M for sponsoring me, your generosity helps pay for my expenses in foster care.  I really hope that we can meet sometime, and I can say a proper thank you.  I give really good puppy kisses, and I'm a world class snuggler, and I'm sending both kisses and snuggles your way.......THANK YOU!!

The resident foxy female was very sick this week, so Wyatt and I had to hold down the fort while she was in the hospital.  She's fine now, and Wyatt and I took care of the family, but everyone was pretty nervous while she was gone.  It appears she ate part of a blanket and it didn't agree with her, so now we can't have blankets to shred and tear, and when Wyatt guts a stuffed toy now, mom makes sure to pick up the stuffing right away.  I TOLD her not to eat that stuff, but she didn't listen (women, can't live with them.......).  She's fine now and getting spoiled rotten, so things are starting to get back to normal around here.

We had some snow yesterday morning, and I love to play snowplow with my nose in the white stuff.  I had everyone laughing, I snowplow the stuff into a pile, then I happily munch on it......what's so funny?  It is cool and clean and kind of tasty, you should try it!!!

I hear Thanksgiving is coming up this week, and Sassy told me that the food here is wonderful.  We get turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy, just like our humans.  I can hardly wait.  Since I've lost so much weight, maybe my foster family will let me have a BIG helping of mashed potatoes.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and I'll talk to you soon!!

Life is good!

I'm so depressed........

No, not about the election, I'm *all* about change, I'm a RAGOM dog!  No, not that I'm still in foster care, things are pretty good here (more on that in a minute).  But the tomato plants are gone.  Sigh.  No more helping myself to those fresh, yummy little bits of heaven.  No more eating as much as I want (at least until Foster Mom catches me).  I'm so depressed.  Sigh.  Who knew how wonderful fresh tomatoes could be?  Maybe if I stand here and look adorable, which is pretty darned easy for me, FM will go to the market and get a few tomatoes for a treat.  I'll try working my magic.  Maybe more deep sighs will help, and sad eyes.  Sigh.

Aside from that, life is pretty good.  I've been working really hard helping FM clean up the yard for winter, get the flowers all put to bed, clean Sassy's wading pool (speaking of depressed, I've never seen Sass so upset before, she loves that pool), stuff like that.  I'm sorry to see winter coming, but I like helping out in the yard.  I'm hungrier now, since FM measures my food and I'm not able to supplement my diet from the garden, but I have to admit that I look like a million bucks.  I got a nice long brushing last weekend because I'm blowing my coat, and I look just amazing.  Check out the pictures, you'll see, I might finally be at my ideal weight!  I'm still learning to play with different toys, I pretty much like anything that looks like a tennis ball or an egg baby, but I played tug with FM last night with Wyatt's stuffed bear and that was fun.  Just remember to stay away from Sass when she is shaking one of those big tug toys, I watched her smack Wyatt in the head with one yesterday and it was REALLY funny.  I had to laugh, I couldn't help myself.

Life is good here, but I'd love to meet my forever family.  I'd really like to be the only four legged friend in your life, I want to hog you all for myself.  I don't need much, just a walk every day, some toys to play with, and lots of love.  I'm quite the cuddle bug, I've even started jumping up on the couch and snuggling.  I like the couch.  I'd probably like the bed if I could reach it!  So go ahead, email placementatragom [dot] org if you are an approved applicant and ask to meet Caesar.  I'm waiting for you..........bring tomatoes!

Happy Sunday everyone!  Haven't updated myself in awhile, sorry about that.  Things have been busy here, lots going on, so I've been a little lax.  I'll try to do better.

Things are going along just fine here at my foster home.  I'm happy here, but I am still waiting for my forever family to find me.  Did you see my video?  Aren't I adorable?  Almost 700 people have viewed my video, but no one has asked to meet me.  :-(   Everyone who meets me thinks I'm just adorable, so I just can't understand it.  Is it because I'm 11?  I don't act 11, I'm a very active, happy little guy.

I've been helping out a lot around the house.  My family went to the Farmer's Market and got a bunch of tomatoes to make sauce, and I helped.  Figured it was only right, as I had eaten so many tomatoes from the garden so they had to pay for them.  That was a fun day, I got some bits and pieces of tomatoes, and it smelled SO good, I just had a ball.  We still have a few tomatoes in the garden here, I'm keeping my eye on them to make sure Sassy doesn't get them when they finally turn red.

I helped foster mom out in the yard the last few weekends, getting the gardens ready for winter.  I pick up sticks and bring them to her, or just sit by her feet and keep her company.  Wyatt and Sassy aren't very helpful, so I try to pick up the slack.

I have a new game that I'm playing, it is called "King of the Deck".  When Wyatt and Sassy run around the yard at top speed, showing off, I just can't keep up with them, their legs are so much longer than mine!  So I run to the deck and when they make their run in front of me, I bark at them to go away.  It is pretty fun, and they don't run me over.  They are fast!  My favorite game is still "Hide the Egg Baby in Sassy's Blankie", I'm good at that one.  I just love those little squeaky egg babies!

Foster Mom is trying to get a picture of my cutest trick.  I can balance on my back legs and beg, but she can't quite get the camera to catch it.  She promises to keep trying, she says THAT pose is what will help me find my forever home!

So, I'm just sitting here patiently waiting for my forever home.  Email your Placement adviser and tell them you can't wait to meet Caesar.  I'm worth it!

Wow, has it really been two weeks since my last update?  It is all foster mom's fault.  She went to the lake for a week and took her laptop with her, crazy I know.  I'm too short to reach the desktop computer so I was stuck, couldn't check email, update my blog, Wyatt and Sassy just laughed at me.  I'm blaming it on my foster mom.

I've been having a really good time the last few weeks.  While my foster family was at the lake, Aunt Maggie came and stayed with us, it was great.  She is WAY more fun than my foster family (just kidding guys, really).  We got to go on extra long walks every day, I got to go visit some friends with her, she hung out with us all day, it was awesome.  She even took me to the vet when I got an ouchie ear, and got medicine for my ear infection.  I told Wyatt and Sass she likes me best.  She really does, I know it.  I'm irresistible.

I have big news to share.  The diet and exercise plan I'm on have been working, and I have lost 6 pounds since coming into foster care a month ago.  6 pounds!  That is a TON of weight for a little guy like me, like 10% of my body weight!  I'm down to 53 pounds, and I must say, I'm looking pretty fine.  So fine in fact, that a shopping trip was in order for a new collar and tag holder.  The one I had just didn't suit my svelte new figure, so it had to go.  I'm going to be turning heads all over the place at this rate, and Sassy will be SO jealous she didn't snag me for herself when she had the chance.  Maybe she is still playing hard to get.  I'm the perfect size for one of those townhouse associations that won't take big dogs.......just a few more pounds to go!

Maggie and I had a long talk about my curiosity with that darn bird while my foster family was gone.  She told me that it is ok for me to sit and watch the bird as long as I'm calm.  So now I sit in front of the cage, or lay down, and just quietly watch Max.  You like to watch CSI and American Idol, I enjoy watching MaxTV, it is way more interactive.  She calls me and makes all kinds of funny noises, twirls the toys in her condo around, sometimes throws me down a few bits of food.  I like it.  When anyone tells me to "leave it", I go on my way.

So I'm ready any time now for my forever family to come find me.  Now that I have lost some weight, I'm even more playful than before.  I like toys and balls, I carry them around and make them squeak.  I trot around the yard now, instead of walking, checking out all the sniffs around the flowers, seeing where the rabbit slept last night, that kind of thing.  I can go for a long walk now, instead of short ones, I'm in much better shape and I have no problem keeping up with Wyatt and Sassy.  Foster mom says to remember to say I give sweet little kisses and I'm a very gentle soul.  So please, come out and meet me, or send a note to your Placement adviser and request a meeting with Caesar.  I'd love to meet you!  And check out my new pictures, don't I look fine?  I let Wyatt be in one of the pictures, so you can see how petite I am compared to him!
