Hi, everyone! It's me, Cara. I have the most wonderful news to tell you. I was adopted on 3/20/2021, the first day of Spring and my first day in my forever home!
My mom and dad love me, and so do my two four-legged brothers. I will never have to worry about moving again or being put in a kennel. I will live the Golden life! My parents say I'm a perfect, sweet, and beautiful girl. I love that!
Thank you, RAGOM and all the volunteers, for everything you have done for me. Without you, I would not have the great life I now have. I am so happy! I am home!
Love,
Cara (also known as Carebear)

This has been a wonderful week for me. First of all, I want to thank Carl and Mary for sponsoring me! It warms my heart that you would care about me and be my sponsors!
I am also very thankful for the warm weather this week. I get to go for walks without freezing my little toes. Today, my foster dad took me and my two foster brothers for a long walk, and when we got home, my foster mom grabbed a towel and started drying all of our feet. I was like, "What the heck! Jeepers, it's just a little snow!" My foster mom is a little weird about wet, dirty feet!
Last week, my foster sister came over to my house and said I was a baby and needed a baby blanket. She gave me a blanket that is my very own! When I go to bed at night, I sleep in my foster mom's bed, and my foster dad covers me up with my baby blanket and tucks my lambies gently under my front leg so I can snuggle.
I hope all of you are staying safe and are having a fabulous week!
Love,
Cara

This is Cara, the beautiful red-colored girl, and laying next to me is my foster brother Otis. He came from the country of Turkey, but he barks English. I sometimes try to kiss him, but he turns his head and says, "Yuck, girl germs." He's my good friend, but I think he's kind of weird.
I also have another foster brother Toby who is a Goldendoodle and I think he's super-duper weird! Both of my brothers were rescued by RAGOM as well. I'm so lucky to be here with them!
This morning, my foster dad got out that noisy machine that sucks up dirt. I think he calls it a vacuum cleaner. I do not like it and I go into my foster mom's bedroom where all my things are that I hoard, and I don't come out until that machine is out of sight! My brother Otis likes the vacuum and he loves it when my dad vacuums him. I told you he is weird!
I hope you have a great week! Talk to you soon!
Love,
Cara

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I hope the new year is full of love and good health!
Christmas at my foster house was really weird. Foster Mom wrapped all kinds of presents and put them under a fake tree. On Christmas Eve, we had company, and they opened those presents and threw the paper in a big pile right smack in the middle of the living room! If I would have done that, I would have been told, "NO!" I just cannot figure humans out.
The good part about Christmas was that I got two - yes, that's right, two - new stuffed lambs! Now I have a total of four lambs and I love my lambs so much. I sleep with my little lambs and I carry them around to show them off, and then I carefully put them back to bed! I also got special treats for Christmas and I loved it!
On New Year's Eve, my Foster Dad and I fell asleep on the couch, and Foster Mom went to bed to watch the ball drop on TV. When the clock struck midnight, some really rude people about a block from where I live started shooting off fireworks! I ran to my Foster Mommy's room and jumped in bed - I was so scared! I laid almost on top of my Foster Mommy, and she held me close until I fell asleep. I do not like loud noises!
All my love,
Cara

Something really weird happened at my foster home. My family put a tree up right smack in my living room! Then they put these shiny things on it and it has lights on it! I'm beginning to think these humans are a little goofy. I got a little scared of it at first because I don't like change, but I got over it.
The last update I did was when I had my teeth cleaned and two teeth pulled. My mouth has healed up, and I'm back to my old self and I have been very healthy. The weather has been really nice, so I get to go for two walks every day. I also love to be a couch potato and I adore treats.
I hope everyone has a very Happy Holiday and a Healthy New Year!
Love,
Cara

Happy Sunday to everyone in RAGOM land. You would not believe what has happened to me in the last 2 weeks! First I went to the vet and they stuck a needle in my leg and took blood out! They would not let my foster mom go in with me because of Covid and I did not want to get out of the car. I was so happy when I got done and saw my foster mom waiting for me out in her car!
The next week I was back at the vet again and this time I had to stay from 7:30 in the morning until 3:30 in the afternoon. My vet Dr. Katie gave me some medicine and I fell sound asleep. While sleeping she cleaned my teeth and pulled two of them out! I was so glad when I woke up and they took me outside and again my foster mommy was waiting there for me. Now I have to have softened food, antibiotics, and pain pills.
Other than having my teeth cleaned, life has been very good. I still love to go on walks, snuggle on the couch and get treats. My foster mom had back surgery, so for over 6 weeks she did not groom dogs in my house. Now she's back at it and I'm happy to see my four legged friends. I like to meet them at the door, show them one of my toys, smell them and then go back to my room.
In a couple of weeks it will be Thanksgiving! I am thankful for RAGOM! I am also thankful for my foster family. I love them and they love me!
I have gone from being terrified of everything to feeling a little more safe. I do not like change, loud noises and fast movements but I am learning not to be so scared.
This is a picture of me laying on my foster dad's lap and my two foster brothers Otis and Toby!

Cara

It has been about one year that I have lived in New Ulm as a foster. I have a good life living with my foster mom and dad and my four legged brothers who also are RAGOM dogs Otis and Toby. I am the only female Golden so I think I get a little more spoiled than my brothers. I also have a foster sister who does not live with us but comes to my house often. Last week my mom had back surgery so my sister helped take care of us and I totally have her wrapped around my little paw!
I still like to steal pillows and blankets off the living room furniture and take everything to my room. Last week after I took a My Pillow to my room it exploded! That's the second time one of those exploded! Not sorry!
I really love this fall weather! It is so much fun going for walks when the weather is a little cooler. I have seen so many pumpkins outside. Foster mom and dad say that I am a little pumpkin! That's just silly!
Happy Fall!
Love, Cara

Hi to everyone out there in RAGOM Land! I hope everyone has had a great summer, I know that I did. There are so many yummy foods to eat and my favorite is cantelope. Watermelon is okay but it's kind of weird. Foster mom wanted me to try a raw carrot. I told her I am not a rabbit and there is no way I'm going to eat that orange vegetable.
I am loving this cooler weather! My foster dad takes me and my two foster brothers for two long walks every day! I have become so comfortable with my walks now that I spend a lot of time smelling the grass and trees. Last week we had a lot of rain so I didn't get as many walks but that was okay. Rainy days are made for napping and cuddling!
Today RAGOM would have had their huge fundraiser called GOLDZILLA. Due to Covid 19 it had to be cancelled. I sure wish I could have gone because my foster dog brothers have been bragging about it. They said it was so amazing and all the money raised goes for rescuing dogs like me. My foster parents thank RAGOM every day and tell me if it wasn't for RAGOM I would not be with them.
I hope everyone has a great week!
Love always,
Cara

On August 11th, I had a birthday and I am now 9 years old! My foster mom put a stupid birthday hat on my head, and I did not like it. I thought I looked silly.
The best part of my day was that I got an ice cream pup cup. It was delicious! I also got a pink monkey and a pink chew toy. Foster Mom and Dad sang a birthday song. I don't mean to hurt their feelings, but I think they need singing lessons.
Yesterday, I had what my foster humans called a spa day. I had the hair on my feet trimmed and my nails done, and I was brushed. Then, I had a bath! I thought I smelled just fine. Stupid humans get me all wet and then put this funny-smelling stuff on me and scub, scrub, scrub, followed by more water! Next, they dry me. I just don't get it. Humans have weird ideas!
My foster parents said they are so proud of me because I have not had an accident in the house for 4 weeks! They always tell me that I'm a good girl, and I am beautiful and sweet, and they love me. Life is good!
Love always,
Cara

Hi, everyone! It's me, Cara!
I had a rough week last week. I got a very bad tummy ache after I ate part of a pillow case. Foster Mom and Dad were very worried until I threw up and got rid of it. That's the last pillow case I eat!
I just want to let you know some of my likes and dislikes.
Likes:
- Cantaloupe
- Popsicles
- Almost any kind of food
- Lying on the couch with my foster dad
- Going for walks
- Kisses and hugs
- My foster family
Dislikes:
- Thunder
- Fireworks
- Wind
- Fast movements
- Canes
- Loud noises of any kind
That's all for this update. I hope everyone has a great week!
Love,
Cara

This is Cara letting everyone know I'm doing well and I hope all of you are safe. Foster Mom and Dad said life has become crazy, but I haven't noticed any difference. I like that my foster dad is still laid off from work, because I get two walks every day and I like that! I walk so nicely on a leash!
When I'm not out walking, I spend my time hoarding all the dog toys in the house. I take them to my foster mom's bedroom one by one. Then, every so often, she takes all the toys back to the living room, and I have to start the whole process over again! I wish I could train her to stop it, but she just doesn't get it!
Love,
Cara

I want to wish all you mothers a Happy Mother's Day! I want to let everyone know I am doing well. Thanks to RAGOM, I will not be having any more litters of puppies, and now it's my turn to be taken care of.
I love being treated like a baby and I am living a great life. I have now lived with my foster family for 7 months and each day, I come out of my shell a little more. There are still things that scare me, but my family assures me it's okay.
I love to snuggle on the couch and in bed with my foster mom. Life is good.
Love,
Your friend,
Cara

This is Cara. I just wanted to let you know that the humans I live with are very weird! Last Sunday was Easter, and they put these dumb-looking rabbit ears on me and said how cute I looked. Cute? No! I thought I looked ridiculous! Who ever saw a Golden Retriever with rabbit ears?
The good thing about the whole day was that my foster mom made a big Easter dinner and I got some glazed baby carrots. I love those carrots, but I'm not a fan of raw ones.
I have been a very good girl and only had one accident all week! I get a lot of praise and a treat every time I do my job outside.
I still love to go on walks, and my foster parents say I am the best walker in the world! I love to hear good stuff about myself.

Hi, everyone! It's me, Cara! I'm hoping all of you are healthy and safe! I overheard people say this coronavirus is some scary stuff, but for me, I'm doing great because my foster daddy was laid off and he's home spoiling me! Now I usually get two walks a day and I walk so nicely on a leash.
I have not gone on any trips and can't visit my foster grandma at this time. I stay busy by taking the throw pillows off the couch and all the toys to my room. I work so hard to get all that stuff, and then my humans take it all back to the living room. I tell you, it's a never-ending job!
We have been working very hard on house training. Foster Mom and Dad said I'm doing better, and I get a treat every time I do my job outside. Sometimes I get scared outside if there is a loud noise, or if it's really windy and it's hard for me to potty when I get scared.
I hope all of you are well!
Love,
Cara

Hi, everyone! It's me, Cara! I have been very busy lately.
On February 15, I went to RAGOM's 35th anniversary party in Minneapolis. It was a 195-mile round trip, but I like to go bye-bye in the car. I met a lot of people who petted me and told me I was a sweet, beautiful girl. I already knew that, but it's always nice to hear.
Some other foster dogs were there as well, and I liked them! Then, I got to go on stage and strut my stuff! It was a very exciting evening, but I was glad to go back to my foster home and relax. I was so tired that I slept almost the whole next day!
I went on another trip, but it was not very far. It was a place where people sit in chairs that have big wheels and some people walk behind this weird thing called a walker. I have never seen a place like this. I guess it's called a nursing home. I met my Grandma for the first time, and she really loved me. My Grandma and many other people petted me so gently and thought I should live with them.
I have been enjoying this spring-like weather! My foster daddy took me and my two foster brothers for a walk today. When we got home, my foster mom wasn't too happy because we were a bit wet and muddy. That's okay; she got over it after we were cleaned up, but I think my foster daddy was in the dog house for a while!

Hi, everyone! It's me, Cara!
Did you hear about the exciting news? RAGOM is going to celebrate their 35th anniversary this Saturday, February 15th! RAGOM has rescued over 9,000 dogs, and I happen to be one of them.
My foster mom and dad are taking me to the party at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis. It's going to be so much fun! If you would like to meet me, just look for the gorgeous red dog with the long eyelashes! I hope to see you there!

FAMILY WANTED!
Hi, everyone! It's me, Cara! I lived as a breeder dog for seven years of my life. I have been in foster care for 1 1/4 years. I was terrified when RAGOM rescued me from the breeding life because that's all I knew. Now I have learned about soft beds, toys, good food, and tons of love!
I had never lived in a house before I came into RAGOM and I am so thankful I now have a good life. There is only one thing I'm missing in my life, and that is a forever home. I love my foster family, but it's time for me to find my own family so I will never have to move to another family again.
A few things about me:
- I am a beautiful, red, purebred Golden Retriever with soft silky hair
- I love to be petted and snuggle
- I give soft, gentle kisses
- I love food, but I do not guard my food or counter-surf
- I love other dogs
- I love toys and pillows
- If you allow me to sleep in your bed, I will keep you toasty warm
I am looking forward to meeting my forever family.
Love,
Cara

I'm sorry I have not done an update on Cara lately. The holiday season has been busy.
On Christmas Eve, we had family at our house, and Cara went to our bedroom and stayed in her dog bed. That's the room Cara has chosen to be her safe spot. She continues to take toys and throw pillows to her room so she feels comfortable with her stuff!
It is so funny to watch Cara take the throw pillows and blankets off the couch one by one to her room. She takes them very gently one by one and does not chew on them.
Cara is a very sweet, beautiful girl who is waiting for her forever home. She loves to be petted and snuggle. She has a very good appetite and takes food gently. She has never been aggressive with food or toys.
Cara's wish for 2020 is to find an angel who will adopt her and love her forever!

Miss Cara is really making herself at home with us. You can find her either on her couch or in her bedroom.
Cara the hoarder takes everything into her bedroom; she is a kleptomaniac! Her nickname is Klepto Cara! I am saying that in a very loving way! My bedroom is starting to look like a doggy daycare.
Last week, she decided to take a throw pillow from the couch to her room, and it exploded! Cara said she just didn't know what happened, but she looked very proud of herself!
Cara is becoming more confident each day, and it makes my heart so happy to see her trusting us more. She is so sweet and gives the most tender kisses. There is nothing Cara loves more than to snuggle on the couch with my husband and in bed with me.
She is showing more interest in the dogs that come to our house to be groomed. She greets them with a wagging tail and really likes the little ones.
We are still working on potty training. Cara's dream home would be with a loving, patient family who would give her a lot of attention. She needs another confident dog, someone home most of the time, and a fenced-in yard.
Friday, November 22, 2019
Cara has found her voice! She barked for the first time in 5 1/2 weeks! It was only one bark, but she let us know she can bark!
Cara likes to lay on her dog bed in my room; it is her safe zone. Just recently, she took dog bones, a rope toy, and a pillow all to her bed. She has become a hoarder and is very proud of herself!
Cara is a gentle, loving, and sweet girl who is still learning what the Golden life is all about. She may always be on the shy side, but has made a lot of progress.
In the morning, when we get up and she sees our resident dogs, she greets them with a wagging tail. We are still working on potty training. We take her out often, but if she hears any noise, she will head back in the house and will not do her job.
Cara needs a very patient and loving home with another dog and a fenced-in yard. The reason for the fence is that she rarely does her job if she's on a leash.

Cara has been with us for four weeks. She has become more confident and is eating very well.
She still is the winner of the Couch Potato Award! She loves to lay on the couch where she can see everything that is going on. On Halloween, I was afraid she would be scared, but she stayed on her spot on the couch and didn't seem to be bothered.
Last week, Cara went back to the vet to have a recheck of her bladder infection. She also had lab work done, and everything came back normal! She has gained one pound, which is good since she lost weight the first week she was with us when she would not eat. I am so happy Cara is feeling much better.
Cara is now more confident with going out to use the bathroom. She does not tell us when she has to go outside, so we take her out several times a day and had no accidents this week!
She also likes to go for walks. She met up with a squirrel and chased it up the tree. Silly girl thought she could climb the tree, but was unsuccessful! Cara walks very nicely, but that squirrel sure got her adrenaline going!
Cara is a sweet, wonderful girl who just needs a lot of love and patience. After being a breeder girl for seven years she needs to learn what the Golden life is all about.
Cara was a princess for Halloween. She left her crown on long enough for a photo!
Tuesday, October 15, 2019
Cara has moved from Iowa to New Ulm, MN. She lived with her first foster in Iowa for a year, and her foster thought it was in Cara's best interest to go to a new foster to continue to make progress. Beautiful Cara was a breeder dog who is in the process of becoming a family girl.
Cara came to us on October 5th, and it was really hard for her to adjust to new surroundings. She would not eat and seemed terrified of everything. She had a potty accident in the house, which was good because we noticed blood and mucus in her urine. She is now on antibiotics and feeling much better.
In ten days, Cara went from a shut-down girl to a couch potato. She found her favorite place in the house and gave a whole new meaning to couch potato! She is now eating all her food and will take treats from our hands. She loves, loves, loves to be petted and craves attention.
She still is afraid of any loud noises and is leary about going outside. We take her for walks with our resident dogs, and she is doing better, but it doesn't take much to spook her. She is starting to walk around the house a bit, which she would not do when she first came to us.
I am so proud of the progress Cara has made with us. She is a real sweetheart!
Monday, September 16, 2019
Cara has discovered her voice. She is excited when mealtime has arrived. It begins when she spies the bowls being picked up and progresses to barking, doing a little dance with the head and tail held high.
Cara is free-roaming and is reliably house trained. She has her spot next to the bed for sleeping and her safe place. Cara loves her morning affection to begin her day. She gets a ruffling of her face and ears with excited enthusiasm.
Outside, Cara runs around the yard, always returning to the same spot where there once was a rabbit. Guess she believes it will always be there waiting for her to return. So is the experience of a puppy mill dog with no experience of the world outside of the kennel.
Cara has yet to find her very own family, but I know it is just a matter of time before they find each other.
Wednesday, April 10, 2019
Cara has made great strides in coming out of her shell. Although she runs in and out of the house like there is a tornado on her tail, she is spending less time in her safe spot. She approaches with the intent of getting some strokes and ear scritches often and will come out to lay on the dog bed every once in a while.
She is very vocal when it is chow time and has found her voice, and her tail is in constant motion in excitement. She will also help herself if one of the other dogs is too slow to eat their food.
Loud, sudden motions and noise will startle her still, and she will scuttle away to her soft spot which is something that may linger for some time. Still, I am very pleased with the progress she is making as I watch her race about the yard with the other dogs.
I think we are getting close to her developing some play behavior in the days to come. When I think about the type of companion that Cara would do well with, a dog who is outgoing and likes to play without having too much energy may be the best choice.
Saturday, December 22, 2018
Cara is starting to bloom and just yesterday, she came in from the outside with a partially-chewed glove she had found in the yard somewhere. I was so surprised she thought she has found a real prize one of the pups had dragged out of the house. Needless to say, she did not have the privilege to chew on it.
Cara still likes her safe place, but every chance the dogs get go outside for recess and potty breaks, she is right behind them with enthusiasm. I suspect she will soon find a way to join in the play with the other pups.
She still is pretty shy, but the right dog in the right home will help her come out of her shell. All is a work in progress.
If you would like to meet this beautiful red girl with curls, please send an Inquiry for Application and we can set up a date.
Thursday, November 15, 2018
Cara has been making great progress the past few weeks. She now runs out to potty with the pack, and I don't have to pick up her leash and lead her to the door. She comes running right back in all by herself.
I had been feeding her with a spoon, but two weeks ago, she decided she could eat all by herself out of the pan. Today, she graduated to dry kibble and hopefully the last can of soft food to get her to eat. She has a great appetite now.
And best of all, she moves to me for the giving of small licks to say thank-you for all that I have given her. What a better way to get a thank-you for sure.
Monday, October 22, 2018
Cara remains very timid and unsure of her environment. She still has a trailing leash in case she does not want to return the house after potty breaks. So far, she still does not like being outside, so she rushes right back.
Cara has found her safe place in the bedroom on one of the dog beds. She always returns to that spot when she has been outside.
Eating remains difficult as she has refused all types of dog food I have tried. We are currently eating Hills a/d, which is an anorexic diet food packed with calories. She is being hand-fed and readily eats this off a spoon or fork. It is a pate-type food.
Cara has had no accidents in the house, but also does not have a signal of needing to go outside, so she has breaks every 4 - 6 hours.
Cara has had her vet visit and completed her vaccinations and spay. She had bloody urine and completed a course of antibiotics. Today, she is having a urine recheck. Amazingly, she has learned to get in and out of the car with little effort, which is greatly appreciated by her foster mom.
We also put Cara on an antidepressant to see if that will help her feel more brave and less overwhelmed by her environment.
Keep Cara in your prayers and hearts as she struggles to make sense of her new world.
Thursday, September 6, 2018
Cara is a 7-year-old retired breeder surrendered to RAGOM as her years of producing puppies had come to an end. Cara is a beautiful dark red color with very pretty features.
Cara has not yet been to the vet, as she is a very timid and fearful girl who currently presents with a tendency to run when faced with new experiences. In the two weeks she has been here she is slowly becoming accustomed to the usual activities of a house.
She did not eat during the first nine days in my home, but we have found a food group she will eat at least once a day. She prefers her kennel, so food and water are in the kennel with her. She will bark to go outside to potty. She is currently sleeping all night.
It may be several weeks before Cara is ready for adoption, so please be patient while Cara grows into a happy girl who is ready to look for her forever home.
