Carly 09-347

Profile

Carly is a bright, energetic spayed female who is approximately 10 months old.  She is crate trained, house trained, shows no resource guarding, and gets along well with other dogs and older children. She likes to give sweet, gentle kisses. It is not known how she does with cats, but she likes to play rough, so I would suggest a home with no cats and no small children. She is a returning RAGOM dog due to her playing too rough with a 3 year-old and a 5 year-old child.  She also had an invisible fence at SO's home, and she would run right through it.  She would do well with a physical fence.

She has an interesting history, read below:

Original Bio: http://ragom.org/avail.cgi/Available/dog?dog_id=4256

She is extremely energetic, as most puppies are.  She plays hard with the resident dogs and then falls fast asleep, only to start again in an hour or so.  She likes to run, so her adoptive family should have time to exercise her frequently.  I believe that she would also be better with another high energy dog to wear her out.  She does very well with both of my dogs, submitting appropriately and playing nice.  She can be a bit of a pest when my Golden mix wants to rest, but this is attributed to being a puppy as well.  She has shown to be pretty independent and prefers to hang with the other dogs, but we have not had much time to bond with her yet.  She does try to hide behind the nearest human if my Akita gets too fresh with her.
Overall, Carly is a lovely dog who is in need of proper obedience training.  She is highly intelligent so she is catching on fast to basic commands.  I foresee a great future for this gal!

Hi.  Carly here.  I can't believe it!!!  My foster family has decided to be my forever family.  I was wishing and wishing that they would want to keep me.  I can be a bit of a handful, especially when there are red squirrels in the back yard.  They tease me terribly and laugh at me when I jump around trying to catch them.

My new dad and I are going to obedience training soon.  My new mom thinks that she may get me and my dad to be more obedient.  We'll see…he has a lot to learn.

What passes for spring in northern Minnesota has sprung and the ice on the pond is gone.  We have fish!!!  I try and try to catch them but they are pretty fast.  Playing Frisbee and fishing all day can be really exhausting.  It is a good thing that there is a nice chair for me to sleep in.

Thank you, RAGOM, for taking such good care of me after I was shot…without your care I may not be here today.

Carly sighing off to live the golden life with Trixie, Sharkey, and Maverick.

Hi, this is Carly.  I have been helping my foster mom edit pictures of me playing Frisbee.  It is pretty complicated and I don't think she finds me very helpful.  Something about my nose on the keys ... I could be more help if I had thumbs.I have had a good week.  Lots of fun with Maverick and Sharky playing in the snow.  We have invented a game that is a combination of Frisbee, chase and growl.  Sharky and Maverick have very deep growls.  Mine sounds sort of girly...not as scary as theirs at all.  But I can make faster turns in the snow.  It is really tiring so I have to take a nap after we come in and get warm.More news next week...have to go play Frisbee, chase and growl.  Carly signing off.

It is time for another update on sweet Carly. What a wonderful girl she is...always happy and busy. She just came in from a game of frisbee in the very deep snow. She loves to play frisbee but you need two so that you can trick her into dropping the one she brings to you.

I have decided who she looks like. She has Audrey Hepburn's eyes. Take a look at her pictures and see what you think. She also bears a striking resemblance to Odie from the Garfield comic strip. Google Odie and see for your self. The big eyes and the floppy ears. She may have been mis-named.

She is a bit of a counter cruiser. And she plays with all the toys in the house. She always seems to be carrying something around with her.

Carly LOVES to play tug. We have several knotted ropes and a braided loop that she will tease anyone with until someone begins to tug back. She is remarkably strong and even got our fairly aloof Australian Shephard to tug with her last night. The Aussie has a fairly deep rumble of a growl and Carly's is fairly high...like a young child trying to sound tough. It is pretty funny.

We had a houseful of guests last weekend and Carly was the perfect host. She was delighted to greet everyone and to check up on them from time to time. SInce she is a bit if a velcro dog, it was a struggle for her to decide which guest needed her most. It was an over night event and Carly was one tired lady when things began to wind down on Saturday evening. She has no problem saying good night and going off to bed even if the party is still going on. I think she slept until Tuesday.

She is ready to find her forever home. She will love another dog but will be able to entertain herself very well if she is an only dog. She cuddles and smiles at you all the time. She may not be a pure bred Golden Retriever but she is pure gold.

Carly has been with us 5 days now. What a sweetie she is. She sends special greetings to Bogey and Kathy & Jeff M with her thanks for thinking of her over the holidays.

Carly has been visited by many of our friends and extended family. Everyone is amazed at how friendly she is especially after hearing the story of her early days. We thought she might be timid given her experience...but not so. She is delighted to meet new people and dogs. We don't know about cats. She is house trained and has free roam of the house when we are gone. She can be left alone for a full work day just fine.

She has amazing eyes. They are large and expressive. One friend says she looks like a movie star. And then you add her ears that seem to act like punctuation marks to show surprise, curiosity, delight. She is a really great girl.

She arrived mid day on Sunday and settled in quickly. The basket of toys was discovered practically immediately. Everything was removed, examined and tried right away. She loves to fetch and it is clear that she will be a Frisbee dog as soon as the snow is not too deep to try it.

There is a lot of rockin' and rollin' with her foster brother, Maverick. They just completed a wrestling match and are taking a siesta in the sun.

She sleeps with us. As active as she is all day she drops as if a switch has been flipped when it is time to go to sleep. Not even any circling. When she is hungry she lets you know.

When she arrived she had teary eyes. That has cleared up.

She would be a great dog for a family with grade school and older children. She might be too much for smaller children. Probably knocking them over. Much is puppy exuberance and will resolve itself in a few months. Children who can run and play with her would be perfect.

She is very agile and would probably make a great agility dog. She will be a champion Frisbee player.

Carly comes when she is called and has been good in our fenced in yard. She would probably be happiest if she had another dog in the house. But she does seem to be able to entertain herself with the basket of toys. She is not very good about putting the toys back in the basket, tho'.

She is ready to accept applications for a forever family. Carly is a wonderful girl and any family would be blessed to share their lives with her.

As you can see in the new pictures,..she LOVES the snow. She will sit in the middle of the yard and just look around and up into the trees. Enjoy and send in your applications. Some lucky family will be taking her home soon.

Carly is an absolute joy!  She has been doing excellent in her training, and is ready for frisbees!  She catches balls in mid-air! Carly continues to get along great with the resident dogs.  She has given them a great workout and everyone has gotten leaner and more muscular (except for Foster Mom and Dad. :)

We had a bit of a scare one morning when I called all of the dogs back inside and Carly did not come, as she is usually the first one back in.  It was still dark out so I grabbed a flashlight because I could see her sitting in the yard.  I went to her and saw a metal object stuck on her back foot.  I scooped her up and brought her inside to examine her.  My hubby and I discovered she had a wire marshmallow roaster stuck in her foot.  I could only assume it came from the neighbors yard as they use these and we don't.  I cut off the excess wire and called the E-vet to let them know I was bringing her down.  It turned out that the wire did not penetrate any bone or pads, but went through the webbing between her toes.  She was a good girl for the vet and they managed to pull the wire out without anesthesia.  I got antibiotics and took her home.  She healed up great and had no other problems.  She is such a good baby.

Carly is doing EXCELLENT!  She is so smart.  When she decides she needs to rest, she cuddles right up to us!  The more I get to know her personality, the more I am convinced she is a Lab/Border Collie mix.  She loves to play chase, loves her toys (especially the BALLS), needs to be stimulated when she is up, and is an excellent watch dog.

Her recall is amazing, and she is a little sponge when it comes to training.  One of the most adorable things she does is moans when she sleeps.  She is so entertaining and gets along so well with the resident dogs, I am going to have a very difficult time watching her go to her new home.  She would make an excellent obedience, agility, or flyball dog.  She is super fast and learns like I have never seen a dog learn before.
