Casey is so special and after over 8 months of foster care, has found her Forever Golden Family & Home.
I do know that I would do it again, all of it, good, bad, horrible, funny, sweet...all of it with Ms Casey. As I said, I had to keep faith there was someone out there that would want, love and accept a 3 legged dog, who loves humans and is dog to dog aggressive. And there was.....and they are the greatest, most loving and funny family. Casey could not ask for more....5 sets of hands, 11 acres, walks, rides in the van and watching 3 cats try to figure out who she is and why she is ignoring them:)
Saturday the family came to St Cloud to meet Casey. The agreement was we'd meet, then if I felt it was ok, we'd go to their home on Sunday. I was so torn.....wanting them to be a family for Casey and not wanting her to go. But within 5 minutes of meeting the family I knew in my heart they were IT!!
Sunday was a tough drive down to the Metro to bring Casey to her new home. But she loved the grounds....TM says she now can be the "farm dog" and sit on the hill and purvey her kingdom. The house is open and airy and has low windows of which Casey ran from window to window to look out...for those pesky squirrels and gophers. The front door has double glass doors.....her tail was a thumping when she saw that. We conducted the business and then it hit me....I was leaving my baby....and the tears came. But it was time to leave. Reba was ready to stay and Casey followed TM to the door. But we took our pics and said our good byes and I left knowing in my heart this was where she belonged and she would be loved, cared for and accepted for who she was.
Casey is settling in and has been for a ride to drop Kevin off for practice, one of many I'm sure, and then a walk in the woods at a near by park. She could only do 20 minutes and was tired, but she will build her strength up....along with her new mom's. She was introduced to the fire pit and settled in for a little rest and a nap. The family is so awesome and has sent me updates and pics everyday. I have been invited to come visit whenever, but I know I must give Casey time to bond with her family and adjust to her new life. But then look out......I'll be back!!
I would also like to thank some special people who have helped Casey and me over the long months. First, Donita for rescuing her and the transporters for getting her to us. To Dr Nancy A and her wonderful staff for all the care. To Dr Cal for cutting his fee in half to perform Casey's amputation. To Con, Konnie, Tamra, Linda and Tom C. who helped Casey make some giant steps the week he cared for her while we were gone. All have been there for me, through the good and bad, tears and laughter. And to The Man who's name is .........well, that wouldn't be any fun to say it now:) He was my rock during the difficult times with Casey and my comfort when we said good bye to Casey. Without all these people and more, I could never have hung on. For all the fosters who helped me through the rough times with advice, I thank you. And no matter what TM says, he'll miss Ms Casey!! After all, on Sunday when we left Casey, he drove me to Maple Grove PetCo to look at cats, then to Buffalo to look at cats and finally home by 6 pm Sunday night. I needed to be busy......and he hauled me around to help me get through the day.
Amelia Erhardt wrote......."courage is the price life exacts for peace.......". Casey had the courage to bear her pain, learn, trust, accept and be the best she could with what she had. She deserves that peace that life has to offer. Casey, I will always love you. You taught me much, gave me more.....more tears, grief, anger, laughter, lessons in life and loyalty of which I have never known from another dog. You have left me the knowledge that to persevere and never give up or in brings rewards, such as you succeeding in many areas and finally finding your forever Golden family. Tonight I write my last update about you, my Golden Bear, and put your file away marked "Adopted"................with tear stains of joy for you and your new life. I love you. Mom
