and the fine staff at Hopkins Pet HospitalCasey is a lovely, gentle, great senior golden boy. He too has an unfortunate past to which we do not have all the pieces to, as happens a lot.  This great boy was found wandering the streets of a town in Nebraska. All by himself, no collar, nothing. Animal Control picked up Casey (no name at the time) and brought him to the shelter (major stressful place for a senior golden and he did not do well there). Ragom to the rescue! Casey was ‘broke out’ of the shelter, brought up here to Sioux Falls where he had a date at the vet clinic/groomer/boarding.  Casey has now been fully vetted. He does not have any major medicals. His thyroid is a little low and vet wants to see how he is in a ‘normal and healthy’ environment and real dog food! This will get re-tested again. He does have dirty teeth and they are worn down and dirty, so a dental is in the near future for him. His coat was not good at all----dirty, smelly, matted, poor guy. Casey has now been brushed, washed and trimmed up nice! He feels SO much better. Obviously looks great.
The first that anyone can notice about Casey is his personality. He loves people and being pet. Considering where he has been.........he really wants and needs loving. Tail wags and is very content. He rode very well in the vehicle. He walks fine on a leash. Casey has a face that makes you melt. He is not a big boy, about 65#. Red. Casey even likes to shake! You can see his senior “frosting’ around that doll face of his. Considering the trek he has been on, and guessing prior circumstances, this is a gentle wonderful boy.
He has adapted with ease and while he loves all of the attention available, he does not demand it. He does not bark and slept on a folded quilt all night without any complaint. He is comfortable outside and enjoys just looking around especially when squirrels are in sight. A wonderful senior rescue.

Lovely Casey boy is going ‘home’ today.  Casey had a final vet check-up on Friday the 16th, removal of the stitches in his foot and a general once over.  Tip top shape and everything is great.  Casey has come such a very long way......from walking the streets lost and unkempt, lonesome and hungry in another state, to Ragom rescue and foster and now home, forever, to a wonderful happy golden life.  Such a secure warm feeling to know another wonderful senior golden is safe, happy, healthy and yes, loved to pieces.

Casey will be home with the “F” family, whose mom and dad have another ragom senior friend, Tilley.  Tilley is another wonderful senior (girl) adopted from Ragom 2 years ago and they both will become wonderful buddies and have some great walks and tons of love, all together forever.  Mom and dad are in love with Casey as they are Tilley and just a happy, complete family now.

Casey is scheduled for a Vet for Monday morning (1-5-09) and should be released late in the afternoon. Casey will be having a dental done (bad dental disease due to severe neglect) and have a epilus (common oral tumor) removed inside his lip at the same time. There is also a small growth on right rear foot which will come off as well.  Casey is a neutered male (pre-Ragom) and has all other vet updates completed. Casey has a slightly lower thyroid which will be re-examined and thought to possibly increase with good diet and being well taken care of.  Casey is a great golden boy. He is thought to be between 8-10 years of age and of course, there is no way of knowing for sure. He comes when called. He stays by us in the big doggie park near our home. Casey gets along fine with other dogs and cats. When we are cooking he just lies on the middle of the kitchen floor.  In having young children around, Casey would prefer to get ‘behind’ one of us and ‘watch the kids’ rather than step out and play with them.  There are no aggressions whatsoever with Casey.  He is such a gentle dog.  Casey travels well in the van with no problems.
Casey is a bit if a “chow hound” and our thought is perhaps this comes from his past where he must have been a loyal companion before being lost and is very thankful for dog food? What a story Casey-boy could tell if only he could talk. Ahh, nothing like a wishful ‘crystal ball.’

Another observation is when we are in the front yard, Casey ignores nearly all traffic, however, twice he barked at large van/suv dark colored vehicles. Again, the ‘crystal ball’ here...........perhaps he once waited for his family to return? So sad when you think about it. Casey will make a wonderful companion golden and he just has so much to offer.  Casey so enjoys going out to our backyard just to ‘watch’ the many squirrels we have in the neighborhood.  Casey loves to be groomed, as a golden does!  He walks great on a leash!  Casey is quiet at night and has had no accidents here.  Casey will be able to go on a road trip tomorrow and meet some new friends.  We are looking forward to taking him with us.  Casey would make a wonderful ‘visiting’ dog and is very social, yet calm.  This is one super-wonderful golden boy for sure.

Casey LOVES watching the squirrels.......does not chase them,
just wants to see and watch them.

He is a true gem, that is for sure!
