Cassie 09-285

Profile

If you are looking for a gem, Cassie is your girl!  Cassie is a 7 year old female Golden Retriever.   She was surrendered in Oklahoma with her golden sister, as her former owner was a single parent who worked long hours.  She was housebroken and had free roam of the house.

Cassie is settling in without problems and her golden personality is already shining through.  She is wonderful with our children (4 and 6), is affectionate, and is well-mannered.  She gets along great with our resident golden/lab and cat.  She rides in the car well and doesn't pull on a leash.  She knows basic commands and listens well.

The vet said she is a healthy girl with the exception of an ear infection that we are treating.  One unique characteristic of Cassie is her tail, which is bobbed (shortened) and is likely that way due to an amputation from trauma.

Cassie loves to be petted and brushed and is always up for a cuddle.  She is not a velcro dog, but does like to be by you (she is laying in her crate right now as I type).  She doesn't show any resource guarding and is a typical golden in that she likes to retrieve and carry a ball or toy.

Cassie is a great dog that would fit in great with any family.  If you are looking for a healthy, affectionate, well-behaved golden, contact placement.  She would love to meet her furever family!

We were such a blessed family to have had our adopted girl, Cassie. Today would have been her 13th birthday. We adopted her at age 7 as we knew we needed a mature, gentle dog. Cassie gave us that and so much more.

She was my constant companion, she made us all feel like we were the best people in the world. She was always there with a furry shoulder to cry on, welcomed us home with great excitement and gave us her goofy smile at just the right moment. Cassie could be counted on for comfort on a walk or for an evening game of tennis ball fetch....and then there were the funny things. Her obsession with any garbage bin that contained McDonald's wrappers, her ability to eat anything in less than 5 seconds, and our peanut butter tickle game. We loved her constant - 2 ball tennis mouth and so many more wonderful things. She was our sweet girl. We loved her, and she loved us so well. Sometimes we felt like we could never be as good to her as she was to us.

And now, we miss her. We had to let her go a few weeks ago. I knew it would be hard, but it was even harder than we thought. We're still not even close to getting used to not having that greeting at the front door, or that built in vacuum cleaner, or our fuzz therapy.

Thank you RAGOM for rescuing Cassie so she could rescue us!

Hello!  We would like to submit our Happy Ending for our adopted girl.

Cassie seems to be enjoying her new life.  She has 3 kids to play with who completely adore her, and a cat who pretty much ignores her.  Her favorite thing is to play fetch with the tennis ball.  We play it in the house, outside, and we even have tennis balls when we go for walks and rides.  Cassie likes to carry 2 in her mouth at a time.  She likes to go swimming and even tried to catch a live loon!  (She didn't succeed.)

Cassie has latched onto me (mommy) and follows me everywhere I go.  She is a wonderful companion and I absolutely love having her to talk to wherever I am in the house, though she seems to have caught on that the kitchen is a no-go when mommy is cooking.  She is so smart!!!!

People are starting to come over to meet her and are declaring her a wonderful dog.  We totally agree.  The longer she is here, the more she just acclimates herself into our little life.  We are so blessed to have her.  We love her and we are so thankful to RAGOM and her foster family, for taking care of her and helping to bring us together.

Cassie here!  I am settling in well with my new foster family and especially love all the hugs and kisses I get.  My foster sister, who is six years old, is way cool and is always taking care of me.  Love that!  My foster brother, who is four years old, is also cool, but he gets tired of petting me sometimes because I do like to be petted.  It feels so good!

Over the weekend I spent a lot of time taking walks with my fur sister, Daphne, and playing outside.  I especially like to play ball and have just the right amount of energy for a 7 year old.  If anything, my fur sister, Daphne, is kind of lazy and doesn't want to play like I do, but my foster mom tells me that Daphne is just a super mellow golden/lab mix and has a hurt leg right now.

I didn't mind the fireworks at all, unlike my fur sister, who hid in the bathroom.  I just go with the flow, at least that is what my foster mom says.

I really like my food and am eating too fast which makes me belch.  My foster mom is now feeding me my food in a muffin tin to slow down my eating.  I don't mind my muffin tin and it seems to help.  I even shared my muffin tin and water bowl with the cat, Leo, this morning.

Based on my last few days, I think the best home for me would have the following:
1) A yard to play in since I like to retrieve balls.  It doesn't have to be fenced as I did really well on a tie out with my family this weekend.
2) A fur sister or brother would be nice, but not an absolute.  I had a fur sister in Oklahoma, but my foster mom thinks I will do well as an only dog too.
3) A home with children who are old enough to know that I do like food and may take food from you, especially if you are carrying it around and not eating at a table, like I did with my foster brother this weekend.  He was walking around with a piece of bread in his hand, so I took it from him.  I did it gently, but I learned this was not acceptable.
4) A family that is ready to give me the love and attention I deserve.  I'm not overly needy, but I do like to be petted.  If you tell me to lay or sit down though I listen, but I may be back in a little while to try for another pet.

I stayed home with only my fur sister today so I'll give you an update later on how that went.  For now, have a great day and make it even greater by calling placement to visit me!
