Cassie has had a very eventful week. She had her first trip to the park where she ran around with Maddison until she was completely exhausted. We took her to PetCo to shop for a toy or two and she did very well-she even let a couple of the employees stop to pet her. She does well in the car but getting her in is a little difficult - she's scared and she's so short that she doesn't exactly jump right in. She has had 2 baths and she just lays in the tub and lets you do your thing-she is so sweet!
After being a little more accustomed to our home, she is coming out of her kennel more and likes to lie against the couch and have her belly rubbed. We found out that Cassie does have a voice and is learning to bark when she wakes up or when someone comes to the door. We are thankful she wasn't debarked as we feared, so any sound from her is bittersweet.
At the vet on Thursday, we found out that she has some nerve damage on the right side of her face. We are going to do some more testing to determine the exact cause (possibly hit on the head) and the extent of the damage. She is not in pain from the injury but doesn't carry her ear well on that side, her eye is a bit sunken and she always lies on that side. I promised her we would make sure we did everything we could to help her live a long, healthy life and she would never, ever be hurt again.
Cassie is very sweet and has not been growling at my resident dog as much as she did when she first came. I think sometimes she just wants her space so she makes sure Maddison knows that. They play together great outside, they wrestle around, chase balls and share water now. I feed Cassie separately to avoid any unnecessary confrontation because Maddison thinks any food is her food and Cassie definitely isn't up for sharing food. We will continue to work with Cassie and can't wait for her to meet her forever family...is that you??
